I campaign against Israeli apartheid as it’s the basic moral floor: Jewish activist

By Press TV Website

More than a hundred activists, mostly Jews, were arrested by police in New York on Saturday after they demonstrated against the Israeli bombardment and blockade in the besieged Gaza Strip.

One of them was Rafael Shimunov, a prominent anti-Israel Jewish activist, who is a board alumni of Jews of Color and a caucus member of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JEREJ Action).

Shimunov and others took to the streets of New York to condemn the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip and specifically called out the US government to stop aiding the massacre of Palestinians.

They were released hours after being arrested, with Shimunov posting on X (formerly Twitter) that everyone was “safe and sound” and continued to call for “Free Palestine.”

In a brief conversation with the Press TV website, the New York-based activist, who is a radio host as well, said he campaigns against the occupation and apartheid “because it is the basic moral floor.”

“I see my name, our religion, and our ancestors being grotesquely transfigured from a story of moral survival against all odds to one of moral cowardice against all innocents,” he stated.

The protesters specifically called on Senator Chuck Schumer, a senior senator from New York and the US Senate Majority Leader, to “act now” and say “not to Gaza genocide.”

It came as tens of thousands of people were forced by the Israeli regime to leave their homes in the northern part of Gaza and move to the southern part of the coastal strip and then bombed on the way.

Hospitals in Gaza are teeming with wounded and mortuaries are full of dead bodies as Israeli warplanes continue to pound the densely-populated civilian areas, killing mostly children and women.

Shimunov told the Press TV website that it “is not a question of Jewish vs Muslim or Palestinian survival but “all of our survivals are bound up and part of each other.”

“Ask any child on the street before we make them unlearn morals and justice. There is nothing fancy or complicated about standing with each other on a basic human level. It is the very basic core of any civilization,” he remarked, urging worldwide solidarity for the Palestinian cause.

“This isn’t a question of Jewish vs Muslim or Palestinian survival. All of our survivals are bound up and part of each other. Not only just morally. But mathematically. There is no chance to survive unless we maintain our global multi-ethnic multi-faith majority against the rise of far-right nationalism.”

JEREJ Action, one of the organizers of the New York demonstration, called for an end to the Gaza genocide.

“Last night on Shabbat, JFREJ joined thousands of Jewish NYers—in our communal grief & fear—to demand CeasefireNOW. No genocide in our name. At least 60, including JFREJers, elders, rabbis, & elected officials, were arrested in front of @senschumer’s home to demand his support.”

In another post on X, the Jewish body said after anti-Arab, anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian violence, “JFREJ stood today with our siblings @ArabAmericanNY (as they stood with us before) providing solidarity safety teams as they trained their members in hate crime safety and prevention.”

Rights group seeks to prosecute UK government for complicity in war crimes in Gaza

The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) has warned UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of its intention to prosecute him and other officials over alleged complicity in Zionist regime’s war crimes in Gaza.

ICJP, a UK-based, independent organization that works to promote and support Palestinian rights, on Saturday issued a notice to Sunak over the UK providing “military, economic and political support to Israel, which has aided Israel’s perpetration of war crimes.”

ICJP notice comes as the Zionist regime made attempts to forcefully evacuate more than one million Palestinians in north Gaza to southern parts in less than a day.

ICJP said the “mass forced displacement” may amount to “both a war crime and a crime against humanity.”

“The siege of Gaza, restricting electricity, food, water and other basic necessities, constitutes collective punishment, which is also a war crime under the Geneva Convention,” it added.

“Now that war crimes have been carried out, continuation of such support and assistance would mean that UK government officials would be complicit in the commission of war crimes and potentially crimes against humanity,” it added.

The complicity, ICJP said, formally known as “aiding and abetting”‘war crimes may mean that UK government officials are individually criminally liable for breaking international law.

The notice by ICJP has been sent to Scotland Yard’s War Crimes Unit, which has asked for evidence of war crimes in the region.

Crispin Blunt, ICJP Co-Director, an MP belonging to Sunak’s Conservative party and a former chair of parliament’s foreign affairs committee, in an interview with Sky News on Saturday said that the forcible transfer of people in Gaza breached international law, and that parties with knowledge of such breaches made themselves “complicit.”

“If you know that a party is going to commit a war crime – and this forcible transfer of people is a precise breach of one of the statutes that governs international law and all states in this area – then you are making yourself complicit. And as international law has developed in this area, the fact of being complicit makes you equally guilty to the party carrying out the crime,” Blunt said.

He added that the government could face legal action over the Israel’s war on Gaza.

On October 7, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched multi-pronged strikes on Israel and penetrated deep into the territories occupied by the Israeli regime for decades.

The large-scale operation, code named Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, which took Israel by surprise, was a respond to the occupying regime’s recurrent desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque and decade-long atrocities against Palestinians.

More than 1,300 Israelis died during the strikes and thousands were injured, while hundreds of others are held in Gaza as prisoners of war by resistance fighters.

Israel also responded by indiscriminate bombardment of civilian buildings and infrastructure and putting a total siege on the Strip leaving the area, home to more than 2.3 Palestinians, without fuel, electricity, water and food.

So far, more than 2,300 Palestinians, including children and women, are killed during the intensive airstrikes against Gaza.

As Tel Aviv is preparing to launch a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, it is forcing Palestinians living in the densely populated territory to move out of the area, something the UN had called “impossible.”

The Western governments, namely the US, Britain, Germany and France, have offered “steadfast support” to Israel amid the regime’s incessant bombing of the besieged Gaza Strip over the past few days.

Keir Starmer, leader of the UK opposition, also come under criticism this week after stating that Israel had the “right” to totally cut power and water supplies to Palestinians in Gaza.

Russia asks UN Security Council for ‘immediate’ ceasefire in Gaza, Israel

Russia has asked the United Nations Security Council to vote Monday on a draft resolution that called for an “immediate” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Israel, blaming the United States for the unfolding situation in the Middle East.

On Saturday, Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s Deputy UN Ambassador, said no changes had been made to the text since it was given to the council on Friday and that he expected the vote to be scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT (1900 GMT) on Monday.

Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia presented the draft resolution which also demands the secure release of all hostages, and “strongly condemns all violence and hostilities directed against civilians and all acts of terrorism.”

The draft resolution, given to the 15-member council during a closed-door meeting on the situation in Gaza, also calls for humanitarian aid access and the safe evacuation of civilians in need.

“We’re convinced that the Security Council must act to put an end to the bloodshed and restart peace negotiations with a view to establishing a Palestinian state as it was supposed to do so long ago,” Nebenzia said on Friday.

He also blamed the United States for bearing “responsibility for the looming war in the Middle East,” and criticized European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen for “turning a blind eye to the Israeli air force attacks on civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.”

According to Nebenzia, there were positive responses to the draft resolution among some member states.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to the UN Zhang Jun said that “there is an emerging consensus on the humanitarian concerns,” adding “We are open to all efforts which will help cease the fire, help de-escalate the tension.”

A UNSC resolution needs at least nine votes in favor and no vetoes by the US, Britain, France, China, or Russia. The United States has traditionally shielded its ally Israel from any Security Council action.

Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Storm last Saturday, penetrating deep into the territories occupied by the Israel regime, by carrying out large-scale air, land, and sea strikes.

The operation was a reaction to the recurring desecration of the al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied al-Quds as well as intensified Israeli atrocities against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Following the surprise operation, some 1,300 were killed and more than 3,400 wounded in Israel. Hundreds of others, including senior Israeli military officials, are held as war prisoners in Gaza.

Israel also responded with intensive air strikes on civilian targets in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 2,329 Palestinians in Gaza and wounding 9,714 others, according to the territory’s health ministry.

The regime has also laid a siege to Gaza, leaving the city, home to more than 2.3 million Palestinians, without water, electricity, and internet.

Tel Aviv is making preparations to launch a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, after telling Palestinians living in the densely populated territory to move out of the area, something the UN had called “impossible.”

More than 420,000 people have been displaced within the Gaza Strip. A total of 270,374 out of 423,378 internally displaced people are now in UN shelters and schools while at least 15 hospitals have been damaged by Israeli shelling and airstrikes.

So far, several Western countries have refrained from calling for an outright ceasefire, claiming that Israel has “a right to defend itself” after the Hamas operation.

China urges Israel regime to stop massacre in Gaza

Wang Yi expressed concerns about the escalating Israel-Palestine conflict as Israel ordered one million people from the northern part of Gaza to evacuate within 24 hours as it prepared for a ground assault, Global Times reports.

In his phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Saturday, Yi said China opposes and condemns all acts that harm civilians, as they violate basic human conscience and the fundamental principles of international law.

Israel’s actions go beyond the scope of self-defense. It should heed the calls of the international community and the UN Secretary-General and avoid collective punishment of the people of Gaza, Wang said.

The Chinese Foreign Minister said all parties should not take any actions that escalate the situation and instead should return to the negotiation table as soon as possible.

China is actively communicating with all parties to push for a ceasefire. The immediate priority is to ensure the safety of civilians, quickly open humanitarian rescue channels, and meet the basic needs of the people of Gaza, Wang said.

The remarks came after the Israeli regime called up an unprecedented 300,000 reservists, declaring a “long” war on Gaza in response to Operation al-Aqsa Storm. The operation was launched by the Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movements last Saturday in response to the occupying regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodshed and destruction against Palestinians.

As many as 2,269 people, including over 700 Palestinian children, have been so far killed and 9,814 others injured since the regime launched its bloody aggression against the coastal territory.

WHO: Israel exterminated entire Palestinian families in Gaza onslaught

The World Health Organization (WHO) says there has been an extermination of entire Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip as a result of the incessant Israeli air strikes against the besieged coastal enclave over the past few days.

WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Saturday appealed to the international community to open up Gaza border crossings and allow the entry of aid supplies into the territory.

Ghebreyesus added that the Israeli military’s call for the evacuation of hospitals in northern Gaza before the forces start bombing them would result in the death of many seriously ill patients.

Thirteen health facilities had been attacked in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war, he noted, highlighting that the stock of medical supplies had run out.

The World Health Organization earlier described Israel’s order for hospitals in northern Gaza to be evacuated as a “death sentence” for the sick and injured.

“Forcing more than 2000 patients to relocate to southern Gaza, where health facilities are already running at maximum capacity and unable to absorb a dramatic rise in the number patients, could be tantamount to a death sentence.”

Israel strikes Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza

Meanwhile, the Ahli Arab hospital in northern Gaza was hit on Saturday evening by Israeli air strikes, the Anglican Archbishop of al-Quds Hosam Naoum wrote on Facebook.

“Two floors were damaged partially and 4 people were injured,” according to Naoum, who included pictures of the damage.

Israel raids killed more than 400 Palestinians in single day

Furthermore, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA says Israeli bombardment of Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 400 Palestinians and wounded 1,500 others in the past 24 hours alone.

This includes 260 deaths in Gaza City, 80 in Deir al-Balah city in the central Gaza Strip and 40 in the northern Jabalia refugee camp.

An additional 10 Palestinians were killed in the town of Beit Lahia, while 20 were killed in southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Yunis.

Abbas stresses cessation of Israeli attacks in call with Biden

Additionally, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has emphasized that peace and security in the Middle East will only be achieved through the implementation of the so-called two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions.

During a phone call with his US counterpart Joe Biden, Abbas underlined the need for the cessation of all Israeli attacks and respect for international humanitarian law as regards unfolding developments in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian president also “stressed the necessity of allowing urgent humanitarian corridors to be opened in the Gaza Strip, providing basic materials and medical supplies, delivering water, electricity and fuel to the citizens there.”

Abbas “categorically rejected” the eviction of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and demanded an immediate end to settler attacks in the occupied West Bank.

Palestinian medical officials say the death toll from the ongoing Israeli military onslaught on the besieged Gaza Strip has surpassed 2,200.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced in a statement on Saturday that 2,269 Palestinians have been killed and another 9,814 injured ever since the Israeli strikes began last Saturday. Over 700 children are among the fatalities.

This comes as more than 420,000 people are displaced within the Gaza Strip. A total of 270,374 out of 423,378 internally displaced people are located in UN shelters and schools.

If Israel genocide goes on, situation can get out of control

In a post on X social media platform, the mission warned that “if the Israeli apartheid’s war crimes and genocide are not halted immediately, the situation could spiral out of control.”

Iran’s UN mission said Israel’s crimes against the people of Gaza could “ricochet far-reaching consequences,” adding that the United Nations, the Security Council and “the states steering the Council toward a dead end” will be responsible for those consequences.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a Saturday meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in Doha slammed Israel’s brutal massacre of Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, saying that changes in regional conditions are possible if Israel’s crimes against Palestinians continue. “If the Zionist regime’s crimes against the people and citizens of Palestine continue, nobody can guarantee that conditions in the region will remain the same,” Iran’s top diplomat warned.

Regional conditions may change if Israel crimes continue

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a Saturday meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in Doha. The Iranian top diplomat was in the Qatari capital as part of a regional tour that has already taken him to Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria.

“If the Zionist regime’s crimes against the people and citizens of Palestine continue, nobody can guarantee that conditions in the region will remain the same,” Iran’s top diplomat warned.

His remarks came after the Israeli regime called up an unprecedented 300,000 reservists, declaring a “long” war on Gaza in response to Operation al-Aqsa Storm.

Adding to his Saturday remarks, Amir-Abdollahian called the Israeli regime’s daily massacre of hundreds of Palestinians intolerable.

“It is not tolerable that the Zionist regime kills hundreds of Palestinians every day and this war crime as well as the blockade of Gaza and blocking access [of the people of Gaza] to water and food and medicines must come to an end,” he said.

Slamming the United States’ approach to Israel’s crimes in Gaza, Amir-Abdollahian said, “While a great number of Palestinians are being killed by the Zionist regime on a daily basis, the US administration calls on others to show self-restraint. At the same time, it has increased its all-out military support for the criminal Zionist regime.”

He also expressed gratitude towards Doha for its supportive position concerning Palestine amid the current developments.

For his part, the Qatari official described the continuation of the dire situation in Gaza, including the Israeli regime’s attacks on the Palestinian people, as a cause for concern.

He said the issue of Palestine was the most pressing issue for the entire Muslim world, adding that regional countries are united in their support for the Palestinian people amid the Israeli atrocities.

Israel once again attacks Syria's Aleppo Intl. Airport

According to a Syrian military source, the regime’s new act of aggression targeted the airport “at approximately 11:35 p.m. (20:35 GMT) on Saturday,” the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.

The source added that the attack came from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of the coastal city of Latakia, leading to material damage and putting the airport out of service.

The regime had targeted the airport last time on Thursday when it also struck the Damascus International Airport in the country’s capital.

The military source said, “This new aggression confirms the criminal approach of the Israeli occupation entity, which is clearly embodied in its continuing crimes against the Palestinian people and the massacres it commits against innocent civilians, including women and children.”

The source was referring to the regime’s ongoing war on the Gaza Strip that has so far killed close to 2,300 Palestinians and injured nearly 10,000 others.

The Israeli aggression targeting Syria “is also clear evidence that this terrorist enemy does not respect international laws and norms, and by attacking civilian airports, it proves that it is the origin of terrorism and the greatest supporter of terrorist organizations in the region and Syria in particular,” the report concluded.

The regime has been attacking the positions of Syria’s military and its allies since 2011 when the country found itself in the grip of rampant foreign-backed violence and terrorism.

Tel Aviv’s attacks mostly target the positions of Syria’s allies that have been aiding the country in its uphill battle against foreign-sponsored terror groups.

Damascus has repeatedly complained to the United Nations over the Israeli assaults, urging the world body’s Security Council to take action against Tel Aviv’s crimes. Its demands, however, have fallen on deaf ears.

‘Al-Aqsa Storm proved Palestine is alive, normalization with Israel cannot weaken Palestinians' will

Iran’s foreign minister has praised the ongoing anti-Israeli operation launched by the Gaza Strip-based Palestinian resistance movements, saying it proves that unlike what some people mistakenly think, Palestine is alive.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a Saturday meeting with head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in the Qatari capital city of Doha.

Noting that the issue of Palestine is the most important issue for the Muslim world, Iran’s top diplomat said, “Supporting Palestine is a religious, humane and moral responsibility.”

Referring to the spontaneous design and implementation of Operation al-Aqsa Storm by the Gaza-based resistance groups, Iran’s foreign minister said the operation proved that unlike what some people erroneously thought, Palestine is alive.

Hamas and its fellow Gaza-based Palestinian resistance movement, Islamic Jihad, started the operation last Saturday, moving deep inside the occupied territories, killing around 1,200 Israeli forces and illegal settlers, and taking many others captive.

Analysts say the operation, the biggest to be conducted by Palestinians against the regime in years, caught Tel Aviv and its supporters off guard, disproving their calculations concerning the Palestinian nation and its capabilities.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian said the Palestinians’ operation also proved that “the process of normalization of some countries’ relations [with Israel] cannot weaken the strong will of the Palestinian nation in pursuing its natural, humane and legal rights.”

Amir-Abdollahian was referring to normalization of relations between some regional countries, which previously claimed to be supporters of the Palestinian nation, and the Israeli regime through US-mediated détente deals starting in 2020. Palestinians and their supporters have called the deals “a stab in the back of Palestine” and its cause, asserting that such normalization agreements can never break down Palestinians’ determination to reclaim their rights.

Explaining about the measures taken by Iran on regional and international levels to stop the Zionist regime’s savage attacks against the oppressed people of Gaza, Iran’s foreign minister said, “We have … proposed holding of an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of Islamic countries … and we back any initiative by Muslim countries in support of the Palestinian nation.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will never back down on its principles and values in support of the Palestinian nation,” Iran’s foreign minister said.

He noted that Operation al-Aqsa Storm was the Palestinian nation’s “natural reaction” to continued crimes and provocative moves by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s extremist cabinet.

“If the Zionist regime’s war crimes continue in Gaza, any possibility in the region can be taken into consideration and the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its efforts to stop the war crimes committed by Zionists,” Amir-Abdollahian said.

The Israeli regime has responded to the operation by bringing the Gaza Strip under a “long” war, for which it has called up an unprecedented 300,000 reservists. The war has so far killed close to 2,300 Palestinians and injured nearly 10,000 others.

Haniyeh, for his part, said Operation al-Aqsa Storm was a natural reaction to the Israeli regime’s crimes against the Palestinian nation during past decades and its increasing violations of the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in recent months.

He added that the crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza prove Israelis helplessness and confusion in the face of the powerful blow they have been dealt by Palestinian resistance fighters.

Haniyeh said despite the regime’s war crimes and destruction of Gaza’s homes, mosques and hospitals, the Palestinian resistance is still powerful and strong.
