70,000 pro-Palestine people in UK urge London to end arms exports to Israel

Nearly 70,000 people have signed a petition calling on 10 Downing Street to put an end to Britain’s arms exports to Israel.

The petition was launched by Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) and a cross party group of British lawmakers.

It came as Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, MP Alicia Kearns, has already admitted that the Foreign Office has received “official legal advice that Israel has broken international humanitarian law, but the government has not announced it.”

The UK’s arms export guidelines maintain that it “will not grant a license if it determines there is a clear risk that the items might be used to commit or facilitate a serious violation of international humanitarian law.”

On Monday, Labour MP Zarah Sultana grilled Prime Minister Rishi Sunak when she asked him whether Kearns told the truth about Israel’s violation of international humanitarian law.

“Was the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee telling the truth – yes or no?” Sultana asked Sunak, who refused to deny that the Foreign Office had received such legal advice. “Israel is committed and capable of complying with international humanitarian law,” Sunak said.

His remarks came as a majority of Britons have called on London to no longer give arms to Israel, whose military has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7.

They fear Israel may be using British-made weapons in military actions that violate international law in the Palestinian territory.

More than 1,000 lawyers, academics, and retired judges, including former president of the Supreme Court Baroness Hale, have signed an open letter underscoring that the constant flow of British arms into Israel puts the UK in clear breach of international law.

Late March, a cross party group of 135 lawmakers wrote to the foreign and business secretaries, stating the case for a suspension of arms export licenses to Israel is “overwhelming.”

Canada, Japan, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands have already announced they no longer ship arms to Israel.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, however, said on April 9 that the UK would keep exporting arms to the occupying regime anyway and that London’s position in this regard remained “unchanged.”

Sunak echoed Cameron’s remarks on April 10. He said arms exports to Israel would continue as before and that the flow would not be suspended.

Early this month, Israel’s deadly strikes on the World Central Kitchen (WCK) in central Gaza drew worldwide condemnation.

Three of the WCK aid workers killed by Israeli airstrikes were Britons, who were all UK military veterans working on its security team.

Britain supplied 42 million pounds ($53 million) of arms to Israel in 2022.

VIDEO: Watch Iranian drones, missiles launching toward Israel

The Israeli regime attacked Iran’s consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1. The Israeli aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of the entire people inside it.

Seven of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military advisors were martyred following the Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, IRGC said in a statement.

In response to the Israeli aggression, Iran attacked the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories with a barrage of drones and missiles early on Sunday.

Following the attack, Iran announced that it does not seek to create tension in the region and had carried out the anti-Zionist operation to punish the Zionist regime. However, the Iranian political and military officials have strongly warned that the country would give a severe response in case of any fresh Israeli aggression.

Gaza authorities slam Israel for torturing Palestinian children

Authorities in the besieged Gaza Strip say the Palestinian children the Israeli regime recently freed have recounted instances of physical abuse, torture, and deliberate starvation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Gaza’s Government Media Office said the testimonies include accounts from children younger than 12.

The accounts underscore “extreme torture, mistreatment and cases of medical neglect.”

The office called on rights groups and the international community to take action in respect of the “horrifying” testimonies.

“These testimonies from the affected individuals prove yet again the monstrosity of this criminal army.”

“It is yet another example of how it violates international and humanitarian laws as it continues committing war crimes and genocide against our people in Gaza,” the office stated.

According to multiple reports, corroborated by the Palestinian Health Ministry as well as the Defense for Children International (DCI) NGO, one child is being killed in Gaza every 10 minutes.

Aid agencies have warned that “nowhere and no one is safe” under Israel’s relentless onslaught.

Israeli forces have been denounced for mistreating Palestinian children, including by torturing those in custody and using others as human shields during the savage campaign in the besieged territory.

The death toll from the regime’s genocidal campaign in Gaza now tops 33,800.

The Save the Children organization is deeply alarmed by the toll and sufferings being exacted on children in the Gaza Strip.

According to the charity, more than 14,500 of Gaza’s 1.1 million children have been killed since October 7, 2023. And thousands more are missing, presumed buried under the rubble, their deaths unmarked.

The life-saving aid which families rely on has either been drip-fed or denied by Israeli authorities – while essential services have been decimated by ongoing Israeli hostilities.

The Global Education Cluster estimates that as of March 30, 87.7% of all school buildings in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed.

Iran to give max. response to Israel if adventurism continues

Amir-Abdollahian held a phone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Yōko Kamikawa on Tuesday to discuss the bilateral relations between Tehran and Tokyo, as well as the latest regional developments.

Saying that the Sunday attack on Israel was based on Iran’s legitimate right of self-defense, the top Iranian diplomat stressed that the country’s retaliatory military operation was carried out very precise and only targeted the Tel Aviv regime’s military bases from which they attacked the consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus on April 1.

Emphasizing the determination of the Islamic Republic of Iran to help strengthen peace and stability in the region, Amir Abdollahian said that the military response to Israel’s attack was only a limited operation, and the country would give a decisive response to the Zionists in case of any fresh Israeli aggression.

“The main cause of the crisis in the region is rooted in the Gaza war, and the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its diplomatic efforts to establish a lasting ceasefire and expects the same from Japan and the G7 members,” he underlined.

Kamikawa, for her part, expressed concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the expansion of the scope of conflict in the region.

She stressed that Japan condemns the Israeli strike on the Iranian diplomatic annex in Damascus, terming the hostile move as unacceptable.

The top Japanese diplomat also stressed the importance of preventing the escalation and spread of tension and conflict in the region, calling for exercising maximum restraint by all parties.

The two sides also emphasized the need for expanding the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Erdogan: Israel to blame for tensions in West Asia

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the Israeli regime is solely to blame for escalating tensions in West Asia.

“The main one responsible for the tension that gripped our hearts on the evening of April 13 is [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and his bloody administration.”

Those are the words made by the Turkish leader in a televised address on Tuesday.

Speaking at the presidential complex after a cabinet meeting in the capital Ankara, Erdogan said new tensions could be expected in the region until the “oppression and genocide” in Gaza ends.

In his remarks, Erdogan underscored his administration’s role as a stable actor amidst global turmoil, attributing this to its balanced foreign policy and achievements in the defense industry.

The Israeli regime launched its genocidal campaign in the besiged Gaza Strip in early October after a surprise attack by the Hamas resistance movement in retaliation for decades of Israeli atrocities.

Since then the Israeli regime forces have killed more than 33,800 Palestinians in Gaza.

In January, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued an interim ruling that ordered the Tel Aviv regime to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.

UN demands end to Israel’s support for settler attacks on Palestinians

The United Nations has voiced grave concern over escalating violence in the occupied West Bank.

The UN rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in Geneva on Tuesday that the Israeli regime forces “must immediately end their active participation in and support for settler attacks on Palestinians.”

“Israeli authorities must instead prevent further attacks, including by bringing those responsible to account.”

“Those reasonably suspected of criminal acts, including murder or other unlawful killings, must be brought to justice through a judicial process that complies with international human rights standards, following a prompt, impartial, independent, effective and transparent investigation.”

The statement from the UN’s human rights office was issued after a number of Palestinians were killed by Israeli settlers in a village south of Nablus.

Shamdasani said following the killing of a 14-year-old Israeli boy from a settler family at the weekend, “four Palestinians, including a child, were killed and Palestinian property was destroyed in revenge attacks.”

The UN rights office, she said, had received information that armed settlers and Israeli forces had entered a number of towns and villages.

“Dozens of Palestinians were reportedly injured, including through the use of firearms, by settlers and Israeli forces, and hundreds of homes and other buildings, as well as cars, were torched,” she said.

At least eight Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or armed settlers since April 12.

Palestinian authorities have reported an increasing number of attacks by settlers across the West Bank.

Salah Bani Jaber, the mayor of Aqraba, a town near the northern city of Nablus, said, “There were Israeli soldiers at the scene who stood idly by watching the settlers.”

The UN also highlighted reports that settlers had established at least two new outposts in recent days in the Jordan Valley and South al-Khalil Hills.

The outposts, she said, were “near Palestinian communities which have been repeatedly attacked by settlers in the past months and are at imminent risk of being forcibly transferred from their homes and land.”

“Israel, as the occupying power, must take all measures in its power to restore, and ensure, as far as possible, public order and safety in the occupied West Bank.”

“This obligation includes protecting Palestinians from settler attacks, and ending unlawful use of force against Palestinians by Israeli forces.”

The West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, has seen a surge in violence particularly since the regime launched its savage campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip in early October.

Nearly 470 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers across the West Bank since October 7.

Iran’s unprecedented strikes against Israel ‘legitimate’

Anwar warned the Tel Aviv regime against taking further action that would “aggravate tensions” in West Asia.

“The launching of the drones by Iran is a legitimate act following the barbarous attack by the Israeli Zionist regime against the Iranian embassy in Damascus,” Anwar said, referring to Israel’s April 1 deadly strike on Iran’s consulate building in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The leader of the Muslim-majority country said Tel Aviv must avoid taking “any further retaliation that will aggravate tensions in the Middle East.”

The regime’s airstrikes on Iran’s embassy compound killed two generals of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, as well as five of their accompanying officers.

In response, on April 13, the IRGC targeted the Israeli-occupied territories with a barrage of drones and missiles.

Iran has also warned Israel against taking any further actions.

Israel keeps ‘unlawful’ restrictions on Gaza aid in place: UN warns

Israel keeps in place the restrictions on a trickle of humanitarian aid entering the besieged Gaza Strip, the United Nations has warned.

“Israel continues to impose unlawful restrictions on the entry and distribution of humanitarian assistance, and to carry out widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure,” said Ravina Shamdasani, the spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, at a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday.

The occupying regime has blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza.

On April 1, Israel faced worldwide backlash after an airstrike killed seven aid workers working for the NGO World Central Kitchen in central Gaza.

“Those delivering or trying to access humanitarian assistance must never be attacked,” Shamdasani said.

Aid agencies, international charities and the International Court of Justice have on several occasions stated that Israel is blocking humanitarian supplies from entering the besieged Palestinian territory, where hunger is most pervasive.

Shamdasani also voiced concern over increasing settler violence in the occupied West Bank, calling on Israeli forces to “immediately end their active participation in and support for settler attacks” on Palestinians.

Meanwhile, the UN Relief Works and Agency (UNRWA), which is a critical source of support for people in Gaza, said in its latest situation update that no significant change has occurred in the amount of aid entering Gaza.

It warned the amount of aid entering Gaza has remained relatively stable since the beginning of April, with an average of 181 trucks arriving in the territory on a daily basis.

According to UNRWA, such amount of aid to Gaza is far below the operational capacity of the blockaded territory’s open border crossings.

The agency also said the trickle of aid fails to meet Israel’s stated aim of facilitating the entry of 500 aid trucks every day, stressing that it has been unable to reach Gaza since January 23.

Throughout this Palestinian territory, “food insecurity” has increased by 80 percent since December, UNRWA warned.

The regime began the genocidal campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has killed at least 33,700 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, since.

Iran operation debunks Israel’s invincibility myth: Cmdr.

Haydari stated on Tuesday that the successful launch of hundreds of missiles and drones at the occupied territories in retaliation for the Israeli regime’s April 1 terrorist strike on the Islamic Republic’s consulate in Syria was a severe and crushing response to the notorious Zionist regime.

He emphasized that the destruction of Israeli military bases falls within the framework of Tehran’s success in countering and neutralizing the financial, logistical and intellectual support of the criminal US administration and its allies in West Asia and across the globe.

“The Iranian Armed Forces can now confront any type of threats and nip any threat in the bud, thanks to constant vigilance and watchfulness… The courageous and decisive action of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran melted the hearts of millions of freedom-loving Muslims, grief-stricken Gazans and fighters from resistance factions, and lived up to the divine promise about the victory of truth over falsehood,” the Iranian Army’s Ground Force chief pointed out.

Haydari further highlighted that the Iranian retaliatory attack targeted the most strategic base and surveillance site of the Israeli military at the Jabal al-Sheikh Heights on the border between the occupied Palestinian territories and Syria.

“The strike on that base and Nevatim Airbase, which accommodates the Zionist regime’s strategic logistics, delivered a crushing blow to the regime’s decision-making and deterrence power,” the high-profile Iranian military figure stated.

Haydari underscored that the deterrence power and combat preparedness of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Armed Forces have warded off any act of aggression against the country, stating that the recent retaliatory attack against Israel showcased a fraction of Iran’s military might and made the Israeli army taste a great defeat.

“A much severe response awaits the Zionist regime’s forces if they commit another strategic mistake,” he stressed.

Separately, Haydari said at a news briefing in Tehran on the occasion of the National Army Day, which is celebrated annually on April 18, that the Tel Aviv regime will receive a much stronger response if it opts to carry out a new act of aggression against Iran.

He stated that Iranian Armed Forces are now at the apex of their combat preparedness, and that the Israeli regime must know that they have created a new equation and will response to their vicious bids.

“Armed Forces decisively responded to the nation’s request. Our forces proved that the Zionist regime is weaker than a spider’s web,” Haydari stated.
