Vijayawada: Addressing the problem of salaries for government employees in the State, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said he knew the impact when employees do not get salaries on time, as his father was also a government employee.

Addressing the meeting with Panchayat Raj employees on Tuesday, Kalyan asserted that the NDA government will stand with the employees.

“‘I understand your struggles. I am also the son of a government employee, and my father was a government employee. We used to live on his salary. There were times when we couldn’t pay school fees and were sent out and only allowed back after paying. I know the impact when employees don’t receive their salaries on time, especially at month-end when we struggle to support their families. The NDA government will stand with government employees,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kalyan will undertake an 11-day Varahi Vijaya Deeksha (fast) on June 26, dedicated to Goddess Varahi. During this period, he will consume only milk, fruits, and water, Janasena Party sources said.

This is not the first time Pawan Kalyan has undertaken such a spiritual endeavour. Last year in June, he embarked on a Varahi Vijaya Yatra and performed pujas to Goddess Varahi, followed by a deeksha.

Earlier, leading Telugu film producers met Kalyan on Monday to discuss the challenges facing the Telugu film industry and how to expand the film sector in Andhra Pradesh. The meeting was held at the camp office in Vijayawada.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said on Tuesday that the development of the State will be taken at a very fast pace.

Addressing a public meeting, Naidu admitted that the new government is now facing several challenges and said that “despite all this, every step will be taken to take the state on a progressive path.

Calling the five-year YSRCP rule a nightmare, he said corruption was rampant in every part of the State. “We will soon publish white papers on the sectors that have been severely affected, and new passbooks for the farmers will be issued soon with an official seal after deleting the photos of the YSRCP president, Jagan Mohan Reddy,” the Chief Minister told the people.

Pune car accident: Minor released, HC states detention in observation home illegal

Pune: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed to immediate release of the 17-year-old boy from the observation home allegedly involved in the Pune car accident. The Juvenile was under observation at home at the Juvenile Justice Board for 36 days after the incident.

The court deemed the orders remanding him to an observation home as illegal and emphasized that the law regarding juveniles must be fully implemented and stated that justice must be prioritized above all else.

The division bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande of Bombay High Court emphasized that justice must be realized regardless of consequences. The court made it clear that it was not swayed by the uproar surrounding the tragic accident that resulted in the loss of two innocent lives.

The High Court criticized the Juvenile Justice Board’s remand orders as “illegal” and passed without jurisdiction.

The court also reprimanded the police for their handling of the situation, noting that law enforcement agencies had succumbed to public pressure.

The court order stated, “Though the manner in which the entire situation has been handled by the respondents including the investigation wing, we can only express our dismay and perturbation by describing the whole approach as an unfortunate incident and hope and trust that the future course of action to be chartered, shall be in accordance with existing provisions of law, avoiding any haste,

However, at this stage, while pronouncing upon the reliefs sought before us, in the Writ Petition we deem it necessary to discharge our solemn obligation, by adherence to the Rule of Law and we feel bound by it, though the respondents, the law enforcing agencies have succumbed to the public pressure, but we are of the firm opinion that the Rule of law must prevail in every situation, howsoever catastrophic or calamitous the situation may be and as Martin Luther King, has rightly observed, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

“We have all sympathies for the victim and their families, but as a court of law, we are bound to implement the law as it stands,” the HC added.

The court emphasized that regardless of the seriousness of the crime, the accused is still a child under the Juvenile Justice Act and must be treated as such. The Act aims at rehabilitation and social integration of juvenile offenders, and confinement in an observation home is only permissible when bail has not been granted.

HC in its order stated, “For the aforesaid reason, we issue a writ of Habeas Corpus directing the release of the CCL from the Observation Home where he is detained, despite being released on bail by a validly passed order by the Board on 19/5/2024 forthwith. We also quash and set aside the impugned order dated 22/5/2024 and the subsequent orders dated 5/6/2024 and the order dated 12/6/2024, which have authorized the continuation of the CCL in the Observation Home which, according to us, is illegal, as the orders being without jurisdiction conferred on the Board.”

The court also added, “At this stage, we must, however, clarify that since the rehabilitation and reintegration of the child in the Society is a primary object of the Act of 2015 and because of the orders passed being in the Observation Home, if the CCL is referred to a Psychologist or undergoing therapies with the de-addiction centre, the same shall be continued with the CCL participating in these sessions on the given time and date, though he shall continue to remain in his home or any safe place, being on bail and the conditions imposed upon him by the order dated 19/5/2024 shall continue to govern him.”
“In addition, we also direct that the CCL shall continue to be under the supervision of the petitioner, his paternal aunt, who shall ensure the compliance of the necessary direction issued by the Board to assist him to be rehabilitated,” it stated.

On June 21, the Pune district court granted bail to Vishal Agarwal, the father of the accused teenager in the primary case where he was booked under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. But, his 77-year-old grandfather is still in judicial custody for allegedly forcing the driver to take responsibility for the crime on behalf of his grandson.

Asaduddin Owaisi raises ‘Jai Palestine’ slogan after taking MP oath

New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised the slogan of “Jai Bhim, Jai Mim, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine, Takbeer Allahu Akbar” after taking oath as the Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

The Hyderabad MP began his oath with a few Quranic verses. He took the oath in Urdu and in the name of Allah.

When Owaisi came to the podium for the oath, the BJP MPs raised slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai”.

After the oath, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President said: “Jai Bhim, Jai Mim, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine, Takbeer Allahu Akbar.”

Owaisi, who was elected to Parliament for a fifth consecutive term in the elections held last month, later defended raising the slogan ‘Jai Palestine’.

When reporters drew his attention to the criticism from the BJP, he asked which provision of the Constitution he violated. “Have you not heard what they were saying? You should also listen to what others said. I said what I had to,” Owaisi said.

Talking about Palestine, the AIMIM chief said they were oppressed people. “Read what Mahatma Gandhi had said about Palestine,” he said.

‘Jai Palestine’ slogan: Complaints demand Owaisi’s disqualification by President

One complaint by Supreme Court lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava stated that by publicly raising the pro-Palestine slogan ‘Jai Palestine’ in the Indian Parliament, Owaisi has demonstrated his allegiance to a foreign country.

‘Jai Palestine’ slogan: Complaints demand Owaisi’s disqualification by President

New Delhi: Several complaints have been filed before President Droupadi Murmu seeking immediate disqualification of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi who raised a slogan in favour of Palestine during his swearing-in as the Lok Sabha MP on Tuesday.

One of the complaints filed by Supreme Court lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava said that by publicly raising the pro-Palestine slogan ‘Jai Palestine’, that too in the Indian Parliament, Owaisi has clearly acknowledged his deep-rooted allegiance and adherence to a foreign country.

It added that Owaisi is liable to be forthwith disqualified from being a Member of Parliament, as per Article 102 (d) of the Constitution of India, which provides for disqualification for membership if a person is under “any acknowledgement of allegiance or adherence to a foreign State.”

“This is not the first time when Mr Owaisi has displayed his unequivocal loyalty, support and allegiance to the said foreign country ‘Palestine’. Rather, it is a matter of record that Mr. Owaisi has been exhibiting his consistent support, allegiance and adherence to the said foreign state for the last many years,” the complaint read.

Further, it said that if the action is not taken against Owaisi, then it will become a precedent and will have disastrous consequences for our nation and the Hyderabad lawmaker be disqualified in the interest of the integrity and unity of Bharat.

The AIMIM chief sparked a major controversy in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday by chanting ‘Jai Palestine’ in the House. Soon after taking oath as MP in the 18th Lok Sabha, Owaisi said: “Jai Bhim, Jai Mim, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine, Takbeer Allahu Akbar.”

Om Birla re-elected as Lok Sabha Speaker

New Delhi: Om Birla, BJP MP from Kota-Bundi, was on Wednesday elected by voice vote as the Lok Sabha Speaker for the second consecutive time.

With this win, Birla became the first BJP leader to serve the coveted position for the second consecutive time.

Protem Speaker of the House Bhartruhari Mahtab announced the election of Om Birla as Lok Sabha Speaker.

PM Narendra Modi and Leader of the Opposition in Lower House Rahul Gandhi took him to the chair and congratulated him after Birla assumed the post.

Before the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with other NDA leaders, proposed to elect Om Birla for the post.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the Opposition alliance, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Arvind Sawant proposed K. Suresh’s name for the Speaker’s post.

The majority was, however, in the NDA’s favour, with 297 MPs voting for Om Birla, while the Opposition got 232.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Birla was picked as the NDA’s candidate for the Speaker’s post. Union Minister Rajnath Singh and some senior leaders also tried to reach out to the leaders of opposition parties to reach a consensus on Birla’s name.

Rahul Gandhi had said that the Opposition would support the NDA candidate, but at the last moment, it announced Congress MP K. Suresh as its candidate.

Notably, Om Birla made several significant decisions as Speaker during Modi 2.0’s tenure.

Birla’s political journey started in 1977 from student union elections which took him to the rank of Lok Sabha Speaker. Om Birla entered mainstream politics in 2003 by winning the assembly elections from the Kota seat.

Meanwhile, there is a festive atmosphere in Kota after Birla became Lok Sabha Speaker for the second time. While BJP workers are celebrating in Kota by bursting crackers and distributing sweets, Om Birla’s family members are in Delhi.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for his condemnation of the Emergency in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and said it was a wonderful gesture to stand in silence in honour of all those who suffered during those days.

Birla read out a resolution condemning the Emergency in the Lok Sabha, shortly after he was elected speaker, and flayed the then-government headed by prime minister Indira Gandhi.

A large number of MPs stood in silence for a few moments amid protests by Congress MPs and some other opposition members.

Modi said in a post on X, “I am glad that the Honourable Speaker strongly condemned the Emergency, highlighted the excesses committed during that time and also mentioned the manner in which democracy was strangled.” The Emergency was imposed 50 years ago but it is important for today’s youth to know about it because it remains a fitting example of what happens when the Constitution is trampled over, public opinion is stifled and institutions are destroyed, he added.

The happenings during the Emergency exemplified what a dictatorship looks like, Modi said.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recognised Rahul Gandhi as the leader of opposition on Wednesday, a day after the Congress communicated its decision to name him for the position to the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, the Lok Sabha Secretariat said Gandhi, leader of the Indian National Congress, had officially been recognised as the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha with effect from June 9.

The Congress MP from Rai Bareli in Uttar Pradesh has been recognised as the leader of opposition under Section 2 of the Salary and Allowances of Leaders of Opposition in Parliament Act, 1977.

Gandhi, who earlier in the day joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in escorting the newly-elected Birla to the speaker’s chair, thanked Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his appointment to the role.

“I thank Congress president @kharge ji, and all the Congress leaders and ‘babbar sher’ karyakartas from across the country for their overwhelming support and warm wishes. Together, we will raise the voice of every Indian in Parliament, protect our Constitution, and hold the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government accountable for their actions,” Gandhi said.
