KTR questions Rahul’s sincerity in anti-defection promise

Hyderabad: Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday wanted to know from the Congress Party whether its anti-defection assurance as stated in the party manifesto would apply for the State of Telangana or not.

Coming down heavily on the Party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi for their hypocrisy on this count, he demanded transparency from the Congress Party so far as its poaching mission in Telangana was concerned and challenged them to adhere to the manifesto promises.

He accused the Congress of preaching one thing while doing the exact opposite by welcoming BRS MLAs into their party while allowing them to retain their posts.

He reminded Rahul Gandhi that the AICC has announced Secunderabad MP seat for Danam Nagender, an elected BRS MLA in Telangana. Recalling their historical association with the “Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram” culture of political defections in India, he emphasized the need for political integrity and consistency in the approach of the party on such issues and urged all parties to uphold the principles of democracy and transparency.

He welcomed the Congress party’s proposal to amend the 10th schedule to ensure automatic disqualification of MLAs and MPs if they defect parties. Stating that actions speak louder than words, he wanted Rahul Gandhi to demonstrate that the Congress party practices what it preaches.

He urged him to make the defectors to resign or face disqualification by the speaker, thereby proving their commitment to ethical conduct in politics.

Hyderabad: To protect its animals from the searing summer heat, the Nehru Zoological Park has stepped up its action plan. From air-coolers to water sprinklers and mist dispensers to special diet plans are in place to help animals beat the heat.

Large air-coolers that pump fresh air into the enclosures for lions, tigers and other carnivores are in place. Specialized room temperature measure system has also been put in place that goes off when the temperature touches 40 degree Celsius.

Apart from water ponds, water sprinklers dot the enclosures, creating a playful environment for the animals, particularly the carnivores. As for the aviaries, the zoo has fog dispensers to help drop temperatures. This time, temporary shelters have been set up for all herbivores.

The animals are also provided with a seasonal diet curated for the summer. “This time, the summer action has commenced one month earlier. We have undertaken a systemic approach. We have placed thermometers in enclosures to ensure necessary interventions are immediately taken if temperature goes up,” said zoo curator, Dr. Sunil S Hiremath.

Seasonal frozen fruits are also provided to animals. This time zoo authorities have also created thatched sheds at around 30 places for visitors to view the animals.

BJP urges Governor to recommend CBI probe into phone tapping

Hyderabad: The BJP has urged Governor CP Radhakrishnan to seek a report from the State government on phone tapping that took place during the previous government and order a CBI probe into the case.

A delegation led by BJP Rajya Sabha member K Laxman on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging him to send a report to the union Home Ministry seeking CBI probe into the phone tapping. Later speaking to the media Laxman said the phone tapping that took place during the previous government had shaken the entire State as it not only involved politicians and bureaucrats but also individuals, hence there was a need to probe the matter by the CBI.

The facts that were coming out in public domain were indeed very serious, for they, on the one hand, raise serious questions about the security of the nation and on the other, breach of the safety and liberty of the individuals, he said.

Coming down heavily on Congress, Laxman said the State government was not so keen to take action against persons behind the phone tapping. “Why is the Chief Minister not taking action against persons on whose behest phone tapping was done. Only a CBI probe can bring the facts to light,”he said.

Nizamabad: Panchayat secretaries to be trained in water quality testing

Nizamabad/Kamareddy: With a view to empower the local community on water quality surveillance, the district administration of Nizamabad and Kamareddy is conducting training programmes for panchayat secretaries to test the quality of water in their respective panchayats.

According to officials, the training of panchayat secretaries in Kamareddy district was completed two days ago and the training would be imparted in Nizamabad district in a week’s time. The district administration has distributed chloroscope kits(chlorine test kits) to 526 panchayats in Kamareddy and 530 panchayats in Nizamabad district.

The portable testing kits would enable panchayat secretaries to check whether the water was fit for drinking or not, the officials said, adding that the aim of the initiative was to reduce health hazards due to unsafe water. “This will instill confidence in the public on the quality of water supplied and the demand for water purification devices will be curtailed,”the officials said.

Since laboratory facilities for testing water quality were absent in most rural areas, the Field Test Kits address this problem by acting as a screening and identifying platform for the sources which were at risk of contamination, the officials said.

Destination USA: Student life in the U.S.

These resources help them adjust quickly and maximize their time on campus.

Destination USA: Student life in the U.S.

Pursuing higher studies in the United States can be an exciting and fulfilling experience for Indian students. The increasing number of Indian students choosing to study in the United States indicates the value of a U.S. university degree.

What differentiates U.S. universities from those in other countries is their quality of education and the support and resources they offer international students. These resources help them adjust quickly and maximize their time on campus.

The first point of contact for all international students on campus is the International Students and Scholars Office. This office is designed to meet international students’ unique needs throughout their time at the university. They offer services such as helping students settle in at the university, obtain their student I.D.s, get acquainted with student residence options, familiarize themselves with the campus, and much more.

Keeping in touch with the International Students and Scholars Office is also essential because this is the same office that helps students with the required documentation for travel to the United States.

During Welcome Week, typically held the week before classes start in the fall, all incoming students meet representatives of various student organizations on campus.

These organizations are a significant part of life on a U.S. campus, and there are many types of student organizations. These include career-focused organizations such as the Society for Women Engineers, social organizations such as the Indian Student Association, and many more.

International students will also attend a student orientation to learn about important resources such as the library, student union, bursar’s or registrar’s office (where students pay their fees), classrooms, health services, recreational centre, and important traditions, history, and landmarks at the university.

Once students have settled in at their university, they can meet with an academic advisor who helps plan their academic journey and stay on track. Universities in the United States have a flexible academic structure. Academic advisors help students navigate the many course offerings for their programs by determining whether they have met the requirements needed to complete each course successfully.

The academic advisor will also recommend adding or dropping classes based on the degree requirements, help explore student interests, and provide additional resources if the student is struggling.

Students can also rely on various student support services such as writing, tutoring, and career services throughout their academic journey. Writing is a critical skill, regardless of the field the student is pursuing. Universities understand that students have different levels of writing skills and provide writing services to students who wish to improve their writing skills.
