Desperate Congress, BJP bank on former BRS leaders in 10 of 17 constituencies

Hyderabad: The bankruptcy for candidates in the Congress, in power in the State now, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, in power at the Centre for a decade, is evident when one realizes that in 10 of the 17 Parliament constituencies in Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi is fighting 13 candidates who were associated with the Congress.

The irony is all the more visible when it turns out that in some constituencies, both the Congress and BJP candidates are former BRS leaders.

The Congress is yet to finalise candidates in four parliamentary constituencies, with indications that at least one is likely to have a former BRS leader as the party candidate.

The lack of leaders with winning potential in both the BJP and the Congress has seen both parties poaching leaders from the BRS, and continuing to do so. An interesting scenario unfolds in Malkajgiri and Chevella constituencies, where all three candidates share ties with the BRS.

The BRS vs BRS scenario in Malkajgiri has Ragidi Laxma Reddy of the BRS in a face-off with P Sunitha Mahender Reddy of the Congress and Etala Rajender of BJP, both of whom were previously associated with the BRS.

In Chevella, G Ranjith Reddy from the Congress and Konda Vishweshwar Reddy from the BJP were both former BRS MPs, and are now contesting against Kasani Gnaneshwar Mudiraj of the BRS.

Similarly, in Warangal constituency, Congress candidate Kadiyam Kavya, who recently quit the BRS, faces Aroori Ramesh of the BJP, who also recently quit the BRS. The BRS is yet to announce its candidate for Warangal.

The other former BRS leaders in the fray on behalf of the BJP are BB Patil (Zaheerabad), M Raghunandan Rao (Medak), S Saidireddy (Nalgonda), Boora Narsaiah Goud (Bhongir) and Azmeera Seetaram Naik (Mahabubabad).

The BJP’s Nagarkurnool candidate P Bharath Prasad, son of former BRS MP P Ramulu, too had recently joined the BJP along with his father. For the Congress, the fourth former BRS leader in the fray is sitting Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

With 13 rival candidates that BRS candidates have to fight being their former colleagues, the elections this time present quite an interesting scenario.

The pace of paddy procurement in many other districts including Mahabubabad and Khammam, where the operations got off to a start only in the first week of April, is expected to stepped by the second week.

The heat wave conditions prevailing in the State had the impact on the arrivals. They are expected to improve by the end of second week of April when some let up in the weather conditions is expectd.

The main disappointment for the paddy growers is that they expected the government to implement Rs 500 per quintal bonus as promised, but could not be implemented so far.

The farmers are assured of the minimum support price of Rs 2183 per quintal (common varieties) and Rs 2203 (grade A) under the procurement operation.

In fact a better price is available for them, in the open market. As per the latest market rates, the average paddy (common variety) is fetching a price of Rs 2201.80 per quintal and the highest is Rs 2610 per quintal in the state.

The corporation officials said that the market intervention methods are intended to benefit the farmers. The number of purchase centres was increased this season.

The corporation is focusing its attention to issues related to supply chain optimization for transportation of foodgrains, improvement in infrastructure in the procurement centres and improvement in milling practices also.

Internal bickering comes to force in Congress meeting in Mancherial

Mancherial: Internal bickering came to the fore during a Congress party meeting in the Peddapalli Parliament segment held here on Sunday.

The meeting was conducted under the aegis of Mancherial MLC K Premsagar Rao, while ministers Seethakka, D Sridhar Babu, MLAs G Vivek and Congress candidate Vinod were present.

While the party’s senior leader Venkat Rao was addressing the cadres, a section of retired coal miners raised objections to his speech.

They asked the leaders of the party not to entertain him, alleging that he had “ruined” the INTUC. The coal miners said the induction of Venkat Rao would result in disgrace to the Congress and raised slogans against him.

However, Premsagar Rao pacified them. Speaking later, Seethakka slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for weakening the Forest Protection Act, stating that Modi was working for the interests of industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani.

She accused him of privatising the SCCL and plundering nature resources for his friends. Sridhar Babu, who said the Congress was determined to realise its poll promises, said it could not fulfill certain promises as the model code of conduct was in force.

Within hours of manifesto promising anti-defection law, Congress poaches MLA

Within hours of manifesto promising anti-defection law, Congress poaches MLA

Hyderabad: Barely hours after the Congress party released its manifesto proposing to amend the 10th schedule to ensure automatic disqualification of MLAs or MPs who switched loyalties, the Telangana Congress showed that it had an agenda different from that of the party high command and the manifesto.

On Sunday, none other than Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy took the initiative of convincing Bhadrachalam MLA Tellam Venkat Rao to quit the BRS and join the Congress, with a red carpet welcome being extended to him in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at his residence.

Though the MLA along with his family members had met the Chief Minister at his residence last month, he had said that the meeting was about seeking funds for executing development works in the constituency.

The Bhadrachalam MLA had also skipped the BRS party’s Khammam and Mahabubabad Lok Sabha constituencies meetings chaired by BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao.

On Saturday, Venkat Rao participated in the Congress public meeting at Tukkuguda, and interestingly, after hours after Rahul Gandhi spoke of the Congress bringing in anti-defection laws, defected to the Congress.

The Congress, which has spoke against defection, has already lured Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender and Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari, with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy openly stating that 20 to 25 BRS MLAs were keen to join the Congress party, indicating that no matter what the party high command said, the Telangana Congress was planning to encourage defections.

Responding to this, BRS working president KT Rama Rao called out the hypocrisy of the Congress, criticising that while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi gave an eloquent speech about party defections and amendments to 10th Schedule for their automatic disqualification, his party leaders, including the Chief Minister and Ministers, were shamelessly poaching BRS MLAs.

“When you don’t mean it, Why this Nautanki & Drama Rahul Ji?,” asked Rama Rao, after Revanth Reddy and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy welcomed Venkat Rao into their party. Taking to the social media, the BRS working president criticised the double standards of the Congress. He pointed out that in its Lok Sabha election manifesto, the Congress promised to amend 10th schedule of the Constitution for automatic disqualification of MLAs and MPs who defect from their original party. However, in Telangana, the Congress gave an MP ticket to a sitting BRS MLA and welcomed another sitting BRS MLA into the party.

“There is a huge difference between what the Congress promises and its actions after winning elections. If it has no morals and values, what is the difference between the Congress and the BJP?” he wondered.

CM Revanth taking revenge on BRS leaders: RS Praveen Kumar

BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar addressing the party workers in Karimnagar parliament constituency level meeting held in karimnagar on Sunday.

Karimnagar: BRS leader and Nagarkurnool MP candidate RS Praveen Kumar found fault with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for trying to take revenge on BRS leaders in the name of Praja Palana.

Participating in the BRS Karimnagar parliament constituency meeting in Karimnagar on Sunday, Praveen Kumar said BRS leaders were being harassed in Karimnagar with illegal cases based on the instructions of Revanth Reddy.

Instead of being scared of illegal cases, party leaders and workers should face challenges with courage and defeat the Congress in parliament elections, he said.

The coming Lok Sabha election was being held between the 100 days of false governance of the Congress and 10 years of fruitful rule of the BRS.

Though the farmers were dying by suicide unable to tolerate withering of crops due to the drought, the State government was least bothered about the plights of farmers, he said.

Praveen Kumar predicted that if BJP came to power at the Centre for the third time, it would abolish the Indian Constitution and implement a Hindutva constitution written by some Hindu fundamentalists from Allahabad by following Manusmriti.

Informing that the people would lose all their rights if the Constitution was abolished, he emphasized the need to defeat the BJP if the people wanted to protect the Constitution.

Though he had changed the party, his main agenda was the welfare of the people.

People should decide whether they want a leader who digs up mosques or raises his voice on public issues in the parliament, he said.

BRS candidate B Vinod Kumar said Telangana was developed on all fronts in the ten years of BRS regime under the leadership of K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Congress lured Bhadrachalam MLA with money: MLC Madhusudan

Khammam: BRS district president, MLC Tata Madhusudan accused Congress leadership of luring Bhadrachalam BRS MLA Tellam Venkat Rao to join Congress by offering huge amounts of money.

The public in the constituency were detesting Congress for buying their MLA less than 24 hours after the party in its manifesto promised to ban political defections.

The Assembly Speaker should cancel the membership of Dr. Venkat Rao by taking into consideration the judgment of the Supreme Court, he said.

Speaking to the media Madhusudan said the MLA dashed the hopes of thousands of people, who voted for him in the elections, for his self-interests, if the Speaker failed to accept BRS’ appeal and cancel the MLA’s Assembly membership the party would take up a legal battle. Voters trusted BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and elected Dr. Venkat Rao as MLA. But Dr. Venkata Rao, deceived people of Bhadrachalam division, mocked the verdict of the people of Bhadrachalam constituency and would be remembered as a traitor, he noted.

BRS party leaders, who participated in the Congress party meeting along with Dr. Venkat Rao on Saturday, were no longer associated with the party and they were expelled from the party, the MLC added.

BRS criticises Congress for deceptive tactics, neglecting farmers

conference in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Hyderabad: BRS senior leader G Jagadish Reddy launched a blistering attack on the Congress party, accusing them of deceitful promises and negligence to the plight of farmers.

He criticised the Congress party’s history of unfulfilled promises, particularly its failure to implement its six guarantees by December 9.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, Jagadish Reddy expressed skepticism towards the Congress party’s Lok Sabha election manifesto, especially the clause on automatic disqualification of defectors, given the presence of sitting BRS MLAs on the same dais at the Jana Jatara public meeting held at Tukkuguda here on Saturday.

He accused Congress of deceiving voters with false assurances, citing instances from Karnataka. Highlighting farmer distress, the former Energy Minister criticised Congress leaders for ignoring agricultural issues and prioritising political theatrics over practical solutions.

He contrasted BRS’s proactive approach under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao with the Congress party’s negligence, citing examples of Congress leaders’ failure to address the farm distress.

He slammed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accusing him of being busy with carrying money bags to Delhi and poaching MLAs from other parties, while farmers losing withered crops due to water shortage.

He emphasised the need for accountability in governance, urging the Congress to address farmers issues and prioritise public welfare rather than indulging in political tactics.

He cautioned against the consequences of negligence and urged voters to hold Congress accountable for their actions in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. Former MLA Gadari Kishore Kumer and others were present.
