Karimnagar: The dump yard of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar caught fire on Tuesday night, with the thick smoke from the yard causing inconvenience to the people in surrounding areas.

Though the dump yard caught fire a number of times earlier, municipal authorities could not take adequate steps to put an end to the problem.


The severe heat conditions are said to have triggered the fire on Tuesday night. Municipal authorities with the help of the Fire and Rescue Service personnel are trying to control the flames, which were still raging when reports came last.

People staying in Alugunoor, Hyderabad road, Sadashivapalli, Kattarampur, Kothirampur, Pochammavada, Kaman area, Alakapuri Colony, Housing Board Colony and other areas are facing trouble due to the fire.

Hyderabad: The number of students from Andhra Pradesh vying for a seat in the engineering, agriculture or pharmacy courses offered in Telangana has come down.

This is evident from the number of applications received for the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (Telangana ) 2024 so far.


The number of applications submitted by students from AP this year, so far, has decreased by 11,940 compared to last year.

As for the engineering stream, 48,222 students from the neighbouring State have registered so far as against a total of 51,461 the last time. Similarly, 12,142 AP students applied for the A&P stream test compared to 20,743 in 2023.

Hyderabad: As a lucrative career, engineering seems to be on a path of resurgence in the State, with a sharp rise in the number of students seeking admission in various branches of the course. This year’s engineering stream of the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy (TS EAPCET) 2024 has witnessed a steep surge in the number of applications, with almost 46,000 more candidates so far applying when compared to the last year.

As against a total of 2,05,351 applications last year, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)-Hyderabad received 2,51,539 till the last count on Wednesday for the engineering stream.


This notable uptick in the number of applications speaks volumes about the students’ preference when it comes to their undergraduate education in the State. The registrations are expected to go up further as the application process with a late fee is underway.

On the other hand, the TS EAPCET which is also held for admissions to agriculture and pharmacy courses saw a drop in the number of applications by nearly 17,000. So far, 98,372 students applied for the A&P stream compared to 1,15,332 in the last year. The number of registrations for the TS EAPCET has risen by over 29,000 from 3,20,683 to 3,49,911.

The test will be conducted in 16 cities in Telangana. Except for Hyderabad III and Hyderabad IV zones, the capacity of centres in the remaining cities has reached the threshold level.

Hyderabad: There is no weapon greater than the vote, and every voter should exercise his right to vote, said Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj.

Flagging off a 2K run organised with the slogan ‘I Vote for Sure’ at Botanical Garden, Kondapur here on Wednesday, Vikas Raj advised citizens to take advantage of the most important right to vote in a democratic system and cast free and ethical voting.


Everyone who reached the age of 18 years must register their name in the voter list and youths were urged to utilise the right provided by the Constitution.

They should strengthen democracy by using their vote without succumbing to any temptation.

The CEO said as responsible citizens, one should complain about the violations of the election code of conduct by downloading the “C” Whistle App on the mobile phone.

He said that the complaint would be investigated within 100 minutes.

Hyderabad DEO and GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose expressed concern that though Hyderabad city was ahead of others, the percentage of voting here was not more than 50 per cent. Eligible citizens should check whether their name was present in the voter list, and if not, apply in Form-6 by April 15.

Hyderabad: The Madhapur Special Operations Team along with the local police busted an international online cricket betting racket being operated from an apartment in Miyapur and arrested four persons on Tuesday night.

Police seized computers, Rs 43.50 lakh in cash, and other material from them. The arrested persons bookies were identified as A Trinadh (34) from Miyapur, M Rajesh (33) from Kapra, B Swamy (30) from ECIL and M Ganapathi Rao (57) from Miyapur.


The kingpin identified as S Venkateshwar Rao, a resident of London, and native of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, was absconding. Police said Venkateshwar Rao, was organising cricket betting through cricket betting apps for the ongoing IPL-2024 with the help of the other suspects as bookies on his behalf.

They accepted bets from known punters including businessmen and realtors on commission online. All the financial transactions were made digitally only.

Following a tip-off, the apartment located in a plush residential colony was raided and the suspects were taken into custody. Efforts were on to nab the prime suspect Venkateshwar Rao in the case, officials said.

Hyderabad: In an alarming revelation that has come to fore, 1,213 government schools in Telangana were found to be devoid of a single student.

These schools have nearly 1,300 teachers with some schools having a single or two teachers, who have been deputed to other nearby schools due to lack of admissions.


Another worrisome figure that has come to limelight is a staggering 13,364 out of 30,023 government schools in the State have less than 50 enrolments.

These schools include primary, upper primary and high schools. Also, there are 5,821 government schools that have a single teacher.

These details have been presented by the State government officials to the Samagra Shiksha Project Approval Board for 2024-25 meeting held on February 16, 2024.

In addition, the number of schools with an adverse pupil teacher ratio at the elementary level is 45.18 per cent. Following the presentation, the Secretary SE&L suggested that the State take up rationalization of schools and ensure the required number of teachers in all schools, especially at the elementary level.

Further, works related to 9.44 per cent of boys toilets, 5.86 per cent girls toilets and 15.45 per cent CwSN toilets are pending in the State. There are 18.19 schools without integrated science labs, 11.7 percent without ICT labs, and 71 percent without skill educational labs.

For the academic year 2024-25, the Central government approved Rs.1,907 crore under the Samagra Shiksha, including Rs.1,148 crore as its share and remaining will be borne by the State government as its share.

Fake cigarettes valued at Rs 1.48 crore seized at Shamshabad

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Special Operations Team (Rajendranagar) along with the RGIA police caught four persons on charges of transporting fake cigarettes of various brands, valued at Rs 1.48 crore at Gagan Pahad on the city outskirts on Wednesday.

The arrested persons are Ravikanth Kumar, a transporter from Bihar; Mohd. Shahzad, container truck driver from Haryana; Mubarik Khan, a truck cleaner from Haryana; Syed Iliyasuddin, truck driver and local transporter from Shahalibanda and Rehan Khan, a receiver from Kishanbagh. The absconding person is Subhash, a material supplier from Gaya in Bihar.


According to the police, the fake cigarettes were concealed in bags claiming to be detergent powder loads and smuggled from Bihar via Patna to Hyderabad in a container truck to be delivered to a company in Musheerabad.

Further investigating revealed that the truck owner had fixed a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) system in the vehicle for communication. The RGIA police booked a case and are questioning the suspects on how long they have been in the illegal business. They are also getting details of the receiver of the consignment from Musheerabad.

Siddipet: Two migrant workers, who ventured into a canal between Surampally and Muthyampet villages in Doulthabad mandal, drowned.

The victims were identified as Tirupathi Rao (30) and Somaiah (29), natives of Andhra Pradesh. The duo ventured into the canal for fishing. Though they did not know how to swim, they ventured deep into the water and drowned.


The bodies were retrieved from the water. A case has been registered. The bodies have been shifted to the Government Hospital, Dubbak for postmortem.

Hailing from humble beginnings in Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Sajja’s journey is a remarkable testament to perseverance and dedication. He attained his MBBS from Guntur Medical College, followed by MS in General Surgery from JIPMER, Pondicherry, and M.Ch in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. KCR extends Eid-ul-Fitr greetings


Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao extended warm wishes to the Muslim community on the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the last day of the holy month of Ramzan. He said with the month-long fasting, spiritual prayers and service to the poor, a spiritual atmosphere has spread across Telangana.
