Contradictory statements from Komatireddy, Sridhar Babu on GHMC bifurcation trigger confusion

Recently, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced plans to divide the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into four separate corporations, citing administrative efficiency. However, Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu contradicted this statement during a Legislative Council session, clarifying that there were no such plans under consideration by the State government.

Contradictory statements from Komatireddy, Sridhar Babu on GHMC bifurcation trigger confusion

Hyderabad: Here is yet another classic case of lack of coordination and communication among Ministers in the Congress government.

It was not long ago that Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that the State government was planning to divide the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into four corporations. However, on Saturday, in sharp contrast to Venkat Reddy’s statement, Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said in the Legislative Council that there were no such plans.

On October 4, the R&B Minister participated in the Assocham’s Urban Infrastructure Summit – 2024 held here in the city. Industrialists, realtors, academicians and officials had also attended the meeting. Addressing the gathering, Venkat Reddy had declared that GHMC would be divided into four corporations and the exercise would be done “after the elections” (possibly the polls to the GHMC).

“Population in Greater Hyderabad is almost 1.5 crore. That’s the reason the State government is planning to divide the GHMC into four corporations. There will be four Mayors after the coming elections,” Venkat Reddy had said.

However, in a conflicting version, Sridhar Babu said on Saturday that there were no plans to divide GHMC. Giving clarifications on the GHMC (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the Legislative Council, the Minister said the government had no plans to divide GHMC into three or four corporations. There was no truth in the campaign that the entire region within Outer Ring Road (ORR) limit would be brought under the GHMC jurisdiction. The corporations under ORR limits would continue to exist, the Minister had stated.

There have been reports that the Congress government was contemplating to divide GHMC into four corporations. This was basically planned on the lines of four Urban Local Bodies in New Delhi. In fact, in March, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had directed officials to work out plans for the civic body considering its rapid development. However, with his own Ministers now coming out with conflicting statements, there is confusion on what is actually on the cards for the GHMC.

Wanaparthy police crack National Highway dacoity, four held, stolen properties recovered

Wanaparthy: Four days after the sensational dacoity on on National Highway 44 near Pebbair, the Wanaparthy police managed to identity the dacoits and nabbed four members of the ‘pardi gang’ and recovered the looted gold ornaments.

The dacoity was reported on December 18 on National Highway – 44 connecting Bengaluru with Hyderabad, when a group of pilgrims returning from Tirumala stopped their car on the highway near a resting point. The car occupants were asleep, when the dacoit gang struck.

Initially, they took away the luggage which was tied on top of the car and carried the suitcases to nearby fields, but they did not find any valuables in the luggage. The dacoits then returned to the car to find the occupants still asleep.

Using boulders, they smashed the windscreens and side window and assaulted the inmates, G Rajini, B Praveen, Santosh, Putta Srikanth and five others and looted their gold ornaments and other valuables. When the car driver attempted to chase them, they attacked him against and fled from the spot. This dacoity took place around 2.50 a.m on December 18 on the National Highway.

The busting of the dacoit gang was announced by IG G Satyanarayana along with the district SP R Giridhar in a press conference on Sunday.

Wanaparthy police

Interestingly, the dacoity took place on the busy NH-44 even as vehicles were whizzing past. The offenders, two of them driving two sugarcane-laden tractors parked them in the lay-by road and were waiting for their prospective victims. However, they could not strike two other cars as there were male passengers who were awake.

To their ill-luck, the victims’ car, an Ertiga regurning from Tirumala and Arunachalam and on its way to Jagitial, had stopped in the lay-by with the belief that the parked sugarcane-lade tractors could provide their some safety. The car passengers eased themselves outside and later slept in the car.

Initially, the two tractor drivers and their associates, who were waiting in the nearby fields stole the suitcases tied on roof of the Ertiga but could not find any valuables. They returned to find the occupants still asleep and attacked the car with granite stones found nearby.

They mercilessly assaulted the male members of the car and snatched all gold ornaments before fleeing from the place, Interestingly, the two tractor drivers, who were part of the gang, had returned to their vehicles innocuously and drove away.

When the case was reported, the Wanaparthy police were baffled as to the method in which the dacoity was conducted and focussed on the tractors that were parked in the lay-by road. With meticulous planning they tracked the offenders and arrested four of them, Badri Gajanan Pimpale of Tembhapuri, Sriram Shivaji Shinde of Parli, Sachin Santosh Shinde of Beed and Sayyad Feroj Mahetab of Beed in Maharashtra.

Two of their associates Santosh Panduran Kale and Sanjay Powar are still absconding.

They accused them of spreading falsehoods and undermining the democratic values of the state.

Addressing a news conference at Telangana Bhavan, Lakshmaiah accused Revanth Reddy of feudalistic behaviour and misleading the public on various issues, including the Lagacherla incident.

He criticized the Chief Minister for making false statements on State debts and failing to respect the democratic process. Lakshmaiah highlighted the Congress government’s failure to address the concerns of farmers and the general public.

He urged them to honour the democratic values and stop misleading the people. He also pointed out the inconsistency in Revanth Reddy’s stance on discussing court cases in the assembly, questioning why some cases were discussed while others were not.

Dasoju Sravan emphasized that the assembly is a sacred temple of democracy where justice, righteousness, and constitutional commitment should prevail.

He accused Revanth Reddy of murdering democracy and the constitution by diverting discussions in the assembly to irrelevant issues, avoiding critical topics like Rythu Bharosa besides other key issues including loan waivers, unemployment, and the plight of BCs, SCs, and STs.

He criticized the Congress government for not addressing the issues of farmers, who are still struggling without the promised Rythu Bharosa and loan waivers.

He also pointed out the lack of discussion on the exploitation by figures like Gautam Adani and the challenges faced by students in Gurukuls.

Sravan questioned Revanth Reddy’s intentions, accusing him of targeting the film industry and actor Allu Arjun without any substantial reason.

He condemned the CM for not providing ex-gratia to the family of Revathi, who died under tragic circumstances, and for making baseless allegations against BRS working president KT Rama Rao.

Bandi Sanjay says Revanth Reddy hatching conspiracy to malign Allu Arjun

Bandi Sanjay

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of tarnishing the image of popular Tollywood actor Allu Arjun by making false allegations.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, the union Minister alleged that the Congress government, in collusion with AIMIM, was conspiring to harm the Tollywood industry as part of a premeditated plan.

The Chief Minister, who has a grudge against the film industry, took advantage of the stampede incident and conspired to damage the reputation of the film industry in the assembly, he alleged.

“An AIMIM member was made to raise a question in the Assembly. They crafted a narrative akin to a movie plot to rekindle the issue, which is shameful. AIMIM is a party that brings misfortune. In the past, it aligned with BRS and caused its downfall. If Congress continues to rely on such a party, it is destined for the same fate,” he said.

Defending Allu Arjun for visiting Sandhya theatre to view his movie, Sanjay said the actor had informed the police before visiting the theatre. He questioned the government’s failure to provide adequate security despite knowing the expected crowd for a pan-India movie benefit show.

He blamed the Congress government for its negligence, which he claimed led to the woman’s tragic death and her son’s critical condition.

“Gurukul students are dying after eating contaminated food. Did the CM ever visit their families? Did you take responsibility for those deaths? Are there different laws for CM and for others?”he asked.

The union Minister questioned the Chief Minister’s accountability, asking why no cases were filed against officials or the government for incidents involving student deaths due to negligence in government-run schools and welfare hostels.

The senior BJP leader asked the Chief Minister to stop taking partisan actions against the film industry and warned that such misuse of the law would lead to political repercussions.
