Hyderabad: Accusing Congress of deceiving farmers with false promises, BJP State president G Kishan Reddy alleged that due to the failure of the Congress government to implement poll promises, farmers were facing hardship and forced to take loans from private lenders.

Addressing a Rythu deeksha organised by the party demanding the government to fulfill promises made to the farmers at the party office on Monday, Kishan Reddy said the Congress promised to waive farm loans upto Rs.2 lakh, provide Rs.15,000 per acres under Rythu Bharosa and Rs.12,000 per month to farm laborers immediately after coming to power, but so far nothing had been done in that direction.

“Congress made promises just to come to power. They are not sincere about implementing promises made to farmers. Since banks are not giving them fresh loans farmers are forced to take loans on high interest from private lenders,”he alleged, calling upon farmers to vote against the Congress in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Hyderabad: BJP State president G Kishan Reddy has reportedly come under severe criticism from party leaders for staying confined in his constituency, campaigning for himself and not campaigning for party candidates in other Lok Sabha constituencies.

Sources said Kishan Reddy was not visiting other constituencies in the State, leaving the entire responsibility on district presidents and candidates. Except for Hyderabad and Chevella constituencies, he has not campaigned in any other constituencies in the State disappointing the party candidates, the sources added.

As the party’s State unit chief, Kishan Reddy was supposed to campaign in all constituencies in the State and encourage party leaders and functionaries to work for the victory of the candidates. However, he was confined to his constituency and not visiting other constituencies, they said.

Even during the Assembly elections, Kishan Reddy, who was not in the fray, was criticised for not campaigning in all the 119 constituencies and restricted himself to a few constituencies. It is learnt that Kishan Reddy was likely to face stiff competition from rival party candidates this time, hence he was not taking chances and was concentrating on his constituency.

Kishan Reddy confining to his constituency and not campaigning in other constituencies has reportedly not gone well with the party functionaries as it would affect the prospects of the candidates. The BJP high command has allotted 14 out of 17 seats to leaders from other parties, following which party leaders who were expecting tickets were unhappy and reportedly not cooperating with the candidates. In such a situation, Kishan Reddy was supposed to visit those constituencies and make the party leaders and functionaries cooperate with the candidates, but he was not doing so, a BJP leader said.

Except for a few rallies and road shows by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah, the State has not witnessed any kind of political activities by the State BJP leaders so far in the State since the poll dates were announced last month. The State leadership has not organised a single big rally or public meeting to attract voters in the last two weeks. Even the outreach programmes being organised by the party are going unnoticed.

Modi and other senior leaders of BJP are likely to tour the State from April 25 and till then the party candidates have to campaign on their own. The party State leadership believes that after the next round of visit of the Prime Minister, a favourable momentum would be created in the State for the party.

Kishan Reddy protests unmet promises to Telangana farmers

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Tourism and Culture and BJP’s Telangana unit president G. Kishan Reddy on Monday sat on a protest at the party office here over the Congress government’s “failure” to fulfil the promises made to farmers.

Demanding the government to pay Rs 25,000 per acre compensation to farmers whose crops were withered due to lack of irrigation water supply, Kishan Reddy sat on ‘Rythu deeksha’ at state BJP headquarters. The protest will continue till 3 p.m.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress government has not implemented even a single guarantee given to farmers. He recalled that during the election campaign, the Congress leaders had promised to waive farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh but even four months after coming to power, it has failed to deliver on the promise.

He recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had promised that new farm loans would be waived on December 9. “Believing his word, farmers had taken loans. He should explain why farm loans have not been waived off,” he said, adding that banks are not sanctioning loans to farmers.

Kishan Reddy also demanded that the government immediately provide Rs.15,000 per acre investment support to farmers as promised during the elections.

He also demanded the implementation of the guarantee to provide Rs.12,000 every year to agriculture labourers and Rs 500 bonus per quintal of paddy.

“People are asking why this government is not implementing the guarantees,” he said and asked the government if it had a concrete plan to implement the guarantees given to farmers.

The BJP leader alleged that the BRS had backstabbed the people of Telangana but the people were once again betrayed by the Congress party. “People wanted a change but no change has come. KCR family was removed but Sonia’s family came to power,” he said.

Kishan Reddy stated that farmers have no money in their hands at the time of harvest. He also claimed that the government is not sincere in procuring agricultural produce from farmers.

He remarked that Congress leaders have time to collect money in Telangana and give it to the party leadership in Delhi but no time to implement the guarantees. “They had promised to implement the guarantees in 100 days but failed to do so,” he said.

He said if the government is sincere in implementing the guarantees, it should come out with a plan and also explain to people how it wants to mobilise funds for implementing them.

Curriculum of ISB’s PGP program revised

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business (ISB) has unveiled a comprehensive curriculum review for its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP).

The revised PGP has a three-pronged focus including a move towards a more customised and flexible programme structure, given the diverse needs of the students, who come from backgrounds varying from engineering to the armed forces to art or sports. With it, learnability is the second pillar, as the school will now use more activity-based methods that build the ability to constantly learn. The third key point is a built-in system of renewal in the curriculum so as to respond to future needs proactively, a press release said.

“The overarching impetus for the changes was the evolving nature of jobs, and the reduced shelf life of knowledge,” says Dean, ISB, Madan Pillutla and added that “In such a period of constant change, what one knows for sure is that people who have a variety of skills will succeed. So, that was the impetus for us to begin to examine it very carefully.”

Dean Pillutla said that for revising the curriculum, senior officials spoke extensively to the alumni, the recruiters, industry at large, to inform this exercise. “The result is an ever-evolving curriculum, which ensures a real-time response to newer trends and requirements,” he said.

The revised curriculum, in its delivery, emphasises personalised and experiential learning opportunities, for which the newly set up Centre for Learning and Teaching Excellence will play a pivotal role. It will drive continuous improvement in content and curriculum design.

The changes will be phased in constantly. For instance, from next year, the school will provide academic advisory services to the students, which will help them to choose a more cross-functional or multi-disciplinary set of electives courses. This would mean that a student has the choice of not majoring or specialising in any one area from next year, and instead build a variety of skillsets to remain job-ready for now and be adaptable for the future, a press release added.

Telangana anticipates ‘above normal’ monsoon, IMD reports

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an ‘above normal’ monsoon for Telangana this year, spanning from June to September. In its recent announcement on Monday, the IMD pointed to weakening El Nino conditions as a significant factor contributing to this prediction.

IMD’s analysis revealed a trend in La Nina years, indicating that most years experienced either above normal or normal monsoon patterns. Exceptions to this trend were noted in 1974 and 2000, which recorded below-normal rainfall.

The forecast extends beyond Telangana, encompassing the entire nation, with expectations of an above-normal monsoon. IMD estimates cumulative rainfall to reach 106 percent of the long-period average, set at 87 cm.

During last year monsoon, Telangana received a cumulative rainfall of 86.2 cm during the south-west monsoon from June to September. This figure surpassed the normal rainfall of 74.4 cm by 16 per cent, indicating an excess in precipitation.

Knee joint replacement is not the solution, say experts

Knee joint replacement is not the solution, say experts

Hyderabad: Knee joint replacement surgery should not be the first choice of treatment for younger individuals (below 55 years) diagnosed with advanced arthritis, expert orthopedic surgeons in an international workshop on ‘Knee Joint Preservation’ held in Hyderabad said.

Instead of removing the damaged parts of the knee joint and replacing it with prosthetic parts, a more conservative route of knee joint preservation should be explored to protect the natural knee joint, said surgeons in the workshop.

Dr Adrian Wilson from UK and Dr Kristian Kley from Germany and 20 other prominent surgeons from India shared insights into achieving positive outcomes using these techniques in the 14th edition of the conference, organised Hyderabad-based Sai Institute of Sports Injury & Arthroscopy (SISA). A total of 400 surgeons from across India participated in the workshop.

On the occasion, a novel surgical procedure High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO), which promises to prolong the life of a partly damaged knee and delays or prevents the need for total knee replacement surgery, was also demonstrated.

Dr K Raghuveer Reddy, MD, SISA said “The advanced HTO helps to delay or avoid total joint replacement and this procedure was the primary focus at the Conference. With Osteotomy one can fully recover within 6 to 12 weeks and most can go back to their normal life in six months and participate in sports or intensive activities within 12 months’ time.

Hyderabad: BRS leader and party in-charge for Greater Hyderabad, Prof Dasoju Sravan on Sunday demanded the Governor to initiate action against the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary for failing to organise Ambedkar Jayanti at the world’s tallest statue of the architect of the Indian constitution in a befitting manner.

He said the government did not feel the need for at least garlanding the statue of Ambedkar and to pay tributes on his birth anniversary.

Former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, while unveiling the statue, had engaged a chopper and giant crane for paying him tributes beside showering flowers from the skies thus demonstrating his respect for the great leader and under privileged sections in the society.

It all appeared to be part of a conspiracy to show their disrespect just because the statue was installed by Chandrashekhar Rao.
