Harish Rao slams Revanth Reddy for misleading Assembly

Harish Rao

Hyderabad: In a blistering attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for failing to ensure fruitful deliberations on the pressing issues of the people, BRS leader and former Minister T Harish Rao said on Saturday that the House as well as the public were misled on multiple counts during the just concluded assembly session.

For the first time in the history of the State, the session took off on a stormy note with arrests and detentions marking the occasion. BRS leaders who staged protests with black T-shirts with images of Adani and Revanth Reddy on them exposing the clandestine relationship between them were arrested, even while similar protests by the Congress were allowed in Parliament. Alleging that Revanth Reddy was trying to unleash an authoritarian rule by throwing to the wind all democratic norms in administration, he said Revanth Reddy had secretly replaced the Telangana Thalli statue with a Congress Thalli statue, using a GO numbered 1946 as a birthday gift to Sonia Gandhi. Harish Rao condemned Revanth Reddy for compromising Telangana’s self-respect by kneeling before Delhi.

Harish Rao also voiced concern over the Congress government’s atrocities on tribal farmers in Lagacherla and highlighted incidents of third-degree torture and handcuffing. He criticized the Chief Minister for avoiding discussions on farmers’ issues and failing to address the pending bills of former sarpanches, MPTCs, and ZPTCs. Questioning the government’s failure to provide funds to villages and towns, he said they had broke all promises made in their manifesto. He pointed out the Congress government’s failure to address the issues of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan employees.

Exposing the Congress government’s false claims about State debts, Harish Rao again provided detailed figures to counter the allegations of the Congress government, which, he said, had availed loans to the tune of Rs 1.27 lakh crore in just one year, which would reach Rs. 6.37 lakh crore over five years.

He also criticized the Congress government for closing 1,913 government schools in one year and failing to address the deaths of students due to dog bites, snake bites and food poisoning. Harish Rao demanded Rs.10 lakh ex-gratia for the families of 54 students who died due to government negligence. He urged the government to protect the reputation of Gurukuls established by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and to address the pending DA and PRC issues of government employees.

Telangana to set up solar units in podu lands to help tribal farmers

Hyderabad: The State government has reportedly taken a decision to set up solar units in podu lands to help tribal farmers run agriculture pump sets. The facility will be provided to the farmers who were given pattas under the Forest Rights Act to cultivate their lands.

Sources say Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has directed the Tribal welfare department to make necessary arrangements for Podu farmers to set up solar power units. The State government is planning to install solar power units on subsidized rates under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) scheme of the Centre.

The PM Kusum Yojana has been launched by the central government to provide assistance to the farmers of the country in the field of agriculture. Under this scheme, farmers of the country are provided up to 90 percent subsidy on installing solar pumps in their fields.

A budget of Rs 500 crore has been set by the central government for this scheme. Under which 35 lakh farmers of the country will be provided the benefit of this scheme.

Already, the State government was making efforts to set up solar power plants in farm lands with an installed capacity of 4,000 megawatts by next March under the PM KUSUM scheme. The Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) has been appointed as the nodal agency for the implementation of this scheme.

If a farmer owns 10 acres of land, he can set up a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 2 MW. It is estimated that the cost of setting up one megawatt power plant will be Rs. 5 crore.

The money for installing solar plants could be borrowed from banks. Gram Panchayat, Primary Agricultural Co-operative Society (PACS), Farmers Producers Association, Water Users Association, Self Help Groups or any other association in the village. The farmers can partner with these associations and install solar plants in their farms.

The farmers can lease the farm to the investing partnership company or organization and sign an agreement with regard to the project.

Apart from this, the State government’s plan to hand over the works of installing 1000 MW solar power through women self-help groups (SHGs) under the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme. The TGREDCO has recently invited tenders for a cumulative capacity of 1000 MW solar plant across the State under the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme.

The scheme aims to install 1 MW capacity solar power plants that will be operated by women self-help groups (SHGs).

ACB offials nab RDO’s CC while accepting bribe in Huzuarabad

Karimnagar: A revenue official broke down after being caught red-handed while accepting a bribe in Huzurabad town, The video of the apparently terrified official has gone viral on social media platforms.

The video shows the official, Sandeep, camp clerk to the Revenue Divisional Officer in Huzurabad being held by plainclothes officers advising him to dip his hands in two glasses of water to perform the ‘phenolphthalein test’, after he accepted the tainted currency wad laced with a chemical substance.

On touching water with traces of the chemical on hands, the water turns pink and is used as a conclusive proof of the bribe money being accepted. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) usually hands over the demanded bribe amount to the complainant after applying a thick coat of the invisible chemical to the currency notes.

After the complainant hands over the bribe money to the official, the ACB officials, who lay in wait in plainclothes swoop down on him, on receiving a signal from the complainant about the ‘tainted’ money being accepted. The wads of currency is recovered and the bribe seeker official is made to dip his hands in water in two glasses.

The pink colour water is then sealed along with the wads of currency notes, whose numbers are noted down and submitted to the court as an ‘irrefutable’ and conclusive evidence of the bribe being accepted.

In the currenet case, the RDO’s camp clerk (or assistant) Sandeep was accused of having demanded and accepted Rs 75,000 bribe from a farmer for doing an official favour of ‘nala conversion’. The arrested official is being produced before a court.

‘Wake up Telangana, wake up’: KTR faults Congress on unfulfilled promises

Challenges government to prove its claim of 100 per cent loan waiver, stating that if they could, he would be ready to resign

‘Wake up Telangana, wake up’: KTR faults Congress on unfulfilled promises

BRS working president KT Rama Rao

Hyderabad: In a sharp reminder to the government about the plight of farmers on a desperate wait for the promised loan waiver, BRS working president KT Rama Rao criticised the ruling Congress for its claims of providing 100 per cent debt relief to the peasant community in the State.

Questioning the integrity of the government on the implementation of the guarantees given by the Congress, he wanted to know whether lies become truth just because they are spoken in the Assembly.

He pointed out that farmers are still taking to the streets because the loan waiver has not been implemented. He challenged the government to prove its claim of 100 per cent loan waiver, stating that if they could, he would be ready to resign.

The government has not accepted this challenge and has failed to provide answers to the farmers. He questioned as to why the farmers would need to protest on the roads if the loan waiver had indeed been implemented.

In a post on X, the BRS leader shared a clipping from a vernacular daily that highlighted farmers squatting in the middle of the road, protesting against the government’s failure to fulfil its assurance of waiving loans within 100 days of assuming power.

He called for the fight against the government should begin from Indravelli, a land of struggles, and Adilabad, the mother of forests. He invited the government to settle the accounts of their so-called loan waiver in front of the farmers sitting on the Dhanora road.

He urged the people of Telangana to be wary of a government that has proven every guarantee it made to be a myth. Listing the unfulfilled promises by the Congress government, he stated that the assurance given for loan waiver proved to be a myth.

So is the case with Rythu Bharosa of Rs 7,500, one thola of gold, Rs 2,500 for women, Rs 4,000 support as Aasara pensions and Rs 6,000 as pension for the differently-abled. “Wake up Telangana, wake up!”, he appealed to the people calling them to action.

CWC rejects DPR for additional component of Kaleshwaram as Congress govt stays silent

Hyderabad: Upsetting the strategic plans laid out by the BRS regime for the optimum utilisation of Telangana’s share of Godavari waters, the Central Water Commission (CWC) has rejected the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the add-on component of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. This component was intended to draw an additional one TMC of water per day from the Godavari River, increasing the existing capacity from two TMC to three TMC per day.

The CWC’s decision, made after repeated reminders and unanswered queries over the last ten months, has temporarily halted the expansion plans of the Kaleshwaram project. This project, one of the largest lift irrigation schemes in the world, had previously enjoyed priority clearances from the Ministry of Water Resources and swift implementation by the State government.

The Congress party, that came to power one year ago sought to prove it a failed project ever since two of the pillars in Medigadda barrage were found sagging. The State government handed over the investigation of structural issues reported in Medigadda barrage, generalised the concerns, and halted regular operations at all the three barrages — Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla.

Consequently, water received from the Godavari and Pranahita rivers was left to flow unutilised, with the barrages deliberately drained under the pretext of investigations, leaving the ayacut (irrigated area) high and dry.

The future of the Kaleshwaram project’s expansion now remains uncertain. The DPR, created with thorough planning and accurate data, has been returned to the State Irrigation Department by the Union Jal Shakti Ministry. The Ministry’s letter to the State’s engineer-in-chief stated that several queries were left unaddressed, leading to the rejection of the DPR for the additional one TMC lifting proposal.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of neglecting Telangana’s water rights and imposing unnecessary restrictions on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. He highlighted the government’s alleged bias against the Kaleshwaram project, describing it as an “unjust vendetta.”

He criticised the government’s silence on Telangana’s water share in the Krishna River, despite hundreds of TMCs being diverted through the Pothireddypadu project. He pointed out that the Congress government remained indifferent even as the Central government imposed restrictions on drawing an additional TMC of water per day from the Godavari River through the Kaleshwaram project.

The BRS leader also accused the Congress of being inactive and failing to protect the state’s interests. He further criticised the Congress for its poor governance, stating that decades of Congress rule had led to droughts, and within a year of Congress rule, Telangana’s reputation was deteriorating. Rama Rao concluded his attack on the Congress government with a fervent call – “Wake up Telangana, wake up!”
