Telangana: Man steals RTC bus, drives with passengers in Siddipet

Siddipet: A man allegedly stole a TSRTC bus from the Siddipet bus station on Sunday night and drove it into a parking bay in the station, where he told passengers that the bus would be leaving for Hyderabad on Monday morning.

A good number of Hyderabad-bound passengers boarded the bus, after which he started off. When the passengers questioned the absence of a conductor on the bus, he is learned to have told them that the conductor would board the bus mid-way. With the ‘driver’ apparently driving in a haphazard way, passengers started questioning him whether he was really an RTC driver.

Meanwhile, the bus veered off the road at Jillella Crossroad in Sircilla district and soon enough, ran out of fuel, following which he stopped the bus on the roadside. Before the passengers could understand what was happening, he is said to have fled the spot.

TSRTC officials in Siddipet have lodged a complaint with the Siddipet Police. With a couple of passengers shooting a video and pictures of the ‘driver’ on their mobile phones, the police reportedly identified the imposter and have taken him into custody. The police however, are yet to divulge further details.

BRS will play a key role in national politics: MP Vaddiraju

MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra launched BRS election campaign at Yellandu in Kothagudem district on Monday.

Kothagudem: Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra stated that the BRS was going to play a key role in national politics and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has all the necessary qualifications to become Prime Minister.

He along with Mahabubabad MP M Kavitha, Yellandu MLA B Haripriya and District Library chairman Dindigala Rajender launched the BRS election campaign at Yellandu in the district on Monday and addressed the party activists.

Chandrashekhar Rao has vast experience of governance, deep understanding of all aspects and eloquence. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister the BRS would record a massive hat-trick victory in upcoming elections, Ravichandra said.

He hailed Chandrashekhar Rao as a great leader who achieved separate Telangana state which everyone thought was impossible and made it number one in the country in terms of development and welfare. Atma Gourava Bhavans for SCs/STs/BCs and other castes were being built in expensive areas like Jubilee Hills, he said.

Former MLA K Kanakaiah was made ZP chairman after he lost the Assembly election. But he sold out himself to moneybags and joined those who betrayed the party. Leaders who have earned money by joining BRS were now speaking against the Chief Minister, the MP alleged.

Ravichandra, who was the in-charge of Yellandu constituency, told the public that they should see the BRS symbol car when they cast their vote. One should understand that their vote was for Chandrashekhar Rao and look at the Chief Minister not the candidate.

He expressed confidence that Haripriya was going to win in upcoming elections. The development programmes would continue till the election notification. Small issues between the leaders would be sorted out and all would work together for the party’s victory, he said.

Hyderabad: The Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr K Ramesh Reddy on Monday has issued orders suspending 10 senior MBBS students from Gandhi Medical College for a period of one-year for indulging in ragging.

“The anti-ragging committee has conducted an enquiry into the incident and found that 10 senior MBBS students were indulging in ragging juniors. All of the 10 students are suspended from the college for one year,” Dr Ramesh Reddy said.

The DME also warned senior students in other private and government medical colleges in Telangana that if anyone indulges in ragging, firm action as per the anti-ragging rules will be taken. We have zero tolerance for ragging, the DME made it clear.

A few days ago, health authorities had firmly warned several senior medical students that ragging will not be tolerated in any of the medical colleges. “Inspite of telling very firmly that no ragging will be tolerated in any of the medical colleges, some senior students indulged in ragging 1st year students in the Hostel of Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad. Complaint was also sent by UGC anti ragging cell, New Delhi to take action, Dr Ramesh Reddy said.

Following a rash of suicides by first-year MBBS students across the country, in June of this year, the National Medical Commission (NMC) in a circular had directed medical colleges to respond in a timely manner to complaints of harassment and ragging made by first-year MBBS under-graduates and PG medicos. The NMC said that medical colleges were not promptly responding to the complaints of ragging and also not submitting their compliance report of Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges and Institution, Regulations, 2021.

Medical students can visit the NMC website (nmc.org.in) and lodge their complaints.

Telangana: BJP MPs, MLAs and senior leaders stay away from ticket application process

Hyderabad: The BJP‘s entire exercise to invite applications to contest the forthcoming polls to the State assembly has become curious with all the party MPs, MLAs, former MLAs and senior leaders staying away from the process. The party had received over 6,000 applications from the ticket aspirants.

Party sources say except Dubakka MLA M Raghunandan Rao and former MP AP Jithender Reddy, none of the party MPs, MLAs or former MLAs and MPs applied for a ticket for contesting the assembly polls. Even BJP election management committee chairman and Huzurabad MLA Eatala Rajender has not submitted his application. Sources said that the party leadership has asked all the sitting MPs to contest assembly polls, but none of them applied for the party ticket.

It is learnt that State BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay, Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri, Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao, national vice president DK Aruna, former MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, former MLAs Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, Chintala Ramachandra Reddy and NVSS Prabhakar have not applied.

Sources said that several leaders feared that the party’s peoples’ representatives and senior leaders staying away from the application process would send a wrong signal to the people that the entire process was an eye wash and that the party had already finalised the candidate’s list. They are of the opinion that the action of the senior leaders would have an adverse effect on the party’s prospects in the upcoming assembly polls.

It was disclosed that the BJP leadership asked Kishan Reddy to contest from his former assembly constituency Amberpet, Bandi Sanjay from Sircilla, Arvind Dharmapuri from Kamareddy, Jitender Reddy from Wanaparthy and Visveshwar Reddy has been asked to contest from Maheshwaram assembly constituencies. But since these leaders have not applied for the ticket what decision the party would take with regard to these constituencies one has to wait and see.

Telangana fully equipped to meet rice fortification norms

Hyderabad: The State is fully equipped to deliver fortified rice as per specifications of the Food Corporation of India. In all, 2760 mills have installed the blending infrastructure to supply fortified rice in a very short span of time, according to officials of the Civil Supplies Corporation.

The State has made it clear that if any of the miller was keen on participating in the customized milling rice (CMR) delivery process, the installation of blending machinery was mandatory. It is a country-wide exercise intended to address issues such as anemia and micro-nutrient deficiency.

As part of the centrally sponsored pilot scheme, fortification of rice and its distribution under the Public Distribution System was initiated from 2019-2020. It would be extended to every Social Safety Net Scheme of the Centre throughout the country by 2024.

What is rice fortification?
Fortification is the process of adding Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) containing FSSAI prescribed micronutrients (Iron, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12) to normal rice (Custom Milled Rice) in the ratio of 1:100 (Mixing 1 Kg of FRK with 100 Kg custom milled rice).

The State has delivered over 77 lakh metric tonnes of fortified rice so far since the Kharif Marketing Season 2022-23. All deliveries from August last were only of fortified rice. The Centre has been updating the States from time to time on the modifications being made in the scheme while carrying forward the initiative.

It has been modifying the standard operation procedures (SOP) as required to complete tasks in accordance with norms. The Civil Supplies Corporation has been delivering only fortified rice from August 2023. However the supplies made to meet the needs of the welfare hostels is an exception.

The quantity supplied to the hostels will be in the order of some 8000 metric tonnes per month. As desired by the government, fine rice of top quality stocks have been kept apart to meet the needs of the hostels. Some bottom line issues of the rice fortification scheme are yet to be addressed by the Centre.

Stocks of fortified rice procured by the FCI from the State’s millers at a few centres were rejected after an inspection conducted by Central teams in June and July last on the plea that blending of micronutrients with rice was not done as prescribed. The fate of such rejected stocks is yet to be decided by the government agencies.

Blending infrastructure made mandatory for CMR millers
State started 100% fortified rice delivery since August
