Telangana: Rare memorial sculpture found in Jangaon

Jangaon: A rare memorial sculpture in the shape of the English letter C has been found in Veldi village of Raghunathpalli mandal in the district. The sculpture, which is believed to be over 3,000 years old, was found in the local Shiva temple. It is made of stone and is about two feet tall.

The villagers of Veldi have been worshipping the sculpture as Hanuman, but archaeology enthusiast Reddy Rathnakar Reddy believes that it is a memorial sculpture from the prehistoric period. He says that the sculpture is a significant find that could provide new insights into the ancient history of Telangana.

He has called on archaeologists and historians to visit the village and study the sculpture further. Reddy says that similar sculptures have been found at the Hirebenakal megalithic site in neighbouring Karnataka state.

It could help to shed light on the region’s ancient history and culture, he said. In addition to the memorial sculpture, the ruins of a Jain temple and other sculptures were also found in the village.

Internal divide in Telangana BJP over casino organizer Chikoti Praveen’s induction

Hyderabad: Differences within the BJP’s Telangana unit over inducting casino organiser Chikoti Praveen into the party have come to the fore.

After reaching BJP state headquarters in a procession with his supporters on Tuesday evening, he had to return disappointed as state BJP president and union minister G. Kishan Reddy and other senior leaders were not present.

Several corporators of BJP in Greater Hyderabad are said to be opposing the entry of Chikoti Praveen into the party. Some have even warned the party leadership that they will resign en masse if he was taken into the party.

According to BJP sources, Kishan Reddy is also not in favour of admitting the controversial figure into the party. However, party MP and former state
BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and his supporters are said to be putting pressure on the leadership to take Praveen into the party as his hardcore Hindutva will help the party.

Praveen is reportedly keen to contest the coming Assembly elections on BJP ticket from LB Nagar constituency in Greater Hyderabad.

When Chikoti Praveen faced an embarrassment after reaching BJP office, a party spokesman clarified that his joining into BJP was delayed due to some communication gap. Kishan Reddy and other leaders were busy with the planned protest at Indira Park in Hyderabad over the problems of unemployed and hence were not available at the party office, the spokesman clarified.

Praveen too said that there was some communication gap. He said he would join the BJP at a programme which will be decided after consultation with senior leaders.

Praveen has been a controversial figure. He was booked by the Gajwel police in July for taking out a rally in violation of prohibitory orders after
communal clashes in the town.

The same month he was booked by police in Hyderabad for employing private security guards with illegal weapons during his visit to a temple in the old city during Bonalu festival.

A few months ago, he, along with several others, was caught in Thailand during a raid on a casino. He had later clarified that he had just gone to
the hotel on an invitation, and he was not aware of the gambling there.

Last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted searches at houses, farmhouses and other premises belonging to Praveen Chikoti and
Madhav Reddy. They had allegedly taken some celebrities to Nepal for a casino.

Popular as ‘PC’ in gambling circles, Chikoti Praveen is known for its flamboyant lifestyle. He displays this lifestyle on social media handles.
He posted a video of taking his favourite pet python for a drive on his Range Rover car.

Praveen was arrested by Hyderabad police in 2007 during a raid on a star hotel. He was arrested along with 40 others for organising gaming with
punters.

Beware of customercare frauds: SCR officials

Hyderabad: Beware rail passengers! Following incidents of customer care fraud instances reported in recent times, the Indian Railway has warned rail passengers against possible fraud in the name of the ticket refund process.

The passengers have been cautioned to not respond to any suspicious calls or links as it may result in financial fraud. With the increase in the use of online ticketing and payment via UPI handle, there have been cases of fraud in the ticket refund process of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Alerted by this, the railway officials have taken necessary steps and make passengers aware. Recently, a similar incident was reported in which a rail user received a fraud call claiming the person was an employee from the IRCTC customer care service and asked him about his bank details for the refund amount and cheated. However, the IRCTC officials were quick in response and took immediate action.

The South Central Railway (SCR) authorities requested citizens to be more cautious. “Rail users are requested not to respond to any links or suspicious calls as it may result in financial fraud with users involving UPI handles. It is observed that fraudsters were calling people from different numbers and sending phishing links. The refund process is fully automatic and there is no need for human intervention,” said an official.

Hyderabad sees highest temperature at 32.9°C, relief expected

Hyderabad: A cyclonic circulation over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Bay of Bengal has given rise to a low-pressure area, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The formation of this weather system, reported on Wednesday, is expected to bring significant rainfall to the state of Telangana in the coming days.

IMD-H scientist, Dr. Sravani, highlighted the potential impacts of this low-pressure area. She said, “This low-pressure area is likely to result in fairly widespread rains across the state from Thursday onwards, with isolated heavy rainfall expected on September 16 and 17. Hyderabad is also likely to witness light rains for the next three days.”

The formation of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is a common meteorological event during the monsoon season, often leading to heavy rainfall in several regions of India.
