Mumbai:
Two passengers on board a Delhi-bound Air India flight from Copenhagen (Denmark) came to blows over armrest space just when the aircraft was about to land at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday, a source said.
The flight landed at around 7.35 am.
An Air India official said that the passengers had an argument over some issue at its Copenhagen-Delhi flight of Saturday which was later sorted out “amicably”.
According to the source, “The two passengers started an argument over the armrest space in economy class when the cabin crew was serving food and beverages, which turned into a heated exchange. The cabin crew pacified them by giving one of the passengers another seat.
“However, when the aircraft was about to land in Delhi, the passenger came to collect his baggage from the seat he was sitting earlier, they again started the fight and came to blows.” The number of passengers on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft, operating AI 158 (Copenhagen-Delhi) could not be known.
The source, however, said that the flight was almost full.
When contacted, an Air India official said, “There was an argument between the two passengers over some issue but it was resolved amicably. They even shook hands before leaving the airport.”

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary, and Expatriate Affairs Vahid Jalalzadeh on Friday expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of the two Iranian nationals who were killed in a “suspicious armed attack for racist motives”.
He called on relevant security and judiciary officials of France to investigate the case and give accurate information in this regard.
Immediately after the incident, the Iranian embassy in Paris contacted the French authorities to follow up on the matter and demanded the identification, prosecution and punishment of the perpetrators of the crime, he said.
Jalalzadeh added that Iran’s Foreign Ministry, in contact with the French embassy in Tehran, has emphasized the need for a thorough judicial investigation and prosecution of the perpetrator or perpetrators of this crime in order to ensure justice is served and blood money of the victims will be paid.

The F/A-18 shot down had just flown off the deck of the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, Central Command said. On Dec. 15, Central Command acknowledged that Truman had entered the West Asia region, but hadn’t specified that the carrier and its battle group was in the Red Sea.
“The guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18,” Central Command said in a statement, AP reported.
From the military’s description, the aircraft shot down was a two-seat F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet assigned to the “Red Rippers” of Strike Fighter Squadron 11 out of Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the Gettysburg could mistake an F/A-18 for an enemy aircraft or missile, particularly as ships in a battle group remain linked by both radar and radio communication.

In February, a resident was attacked by a bull outside a school in the area
New Delhi:
Nearly a year after a man was attacked by a bull and killed in south Delhi’s Kalkaji Extension, residents have raised concerns over a sudden rise in the number of stray cattle on the road outside their homes again.
In February, a city resident Subhash Kumar Jha was attacked by the bull outside a school in the area and killed. He went to the school to pick up his son when the incident, which was seen on CCTV camera, happened.
A new video has emerged from the same area, showing garbage strewn outside the walls of residential colonies and a school, with over a dozen cows sitting on them.
“Look at these flats. Residents have worked hard to keep them clean,” a local resident said in a video which he posted on X. He pans the camera. “However, this is the condition on the other side of the wall,” he said, as the garbage and cattle appear in view.
“These cattle will suddenly get up and come on the road, leading to accidents, which happen everyday. No one cares; no one listens. We have tried knocking at every door, from police to politicians to local councillors,” the man said.
Residents said they are tired of waiting for the place to be cleaned by the authorities, adding they have been using their own money and resources to clean as much as possible.
The visuals show a long pile of garbage strewn right at the wall of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar School in south Delhi’s Kalkaji Extension.
Residents’ welfare association general secretary Harjinder Singh Harry said the least the leaders can do is to clean up the area ahead of the Delhi assembly election scheduled early next year.
Other residents of nearby apartments said some action happens but very rarely, and the situation reverts to what it was i.e. garbage and cattle on the road in a couple of days after some mild enforcement action.
“Are we condemned to live surrounded by this filth forever? Why can’t residents of this area get basic cleanliness? Alaknanda and Chittaranjan Park are just a kilometre away, and those places are clean. Maybe influential people live there. Just because we don’t say anything doesn’t mean we will not exercise the power of our votes,” a resident said.
Garbage being dumped near the gate of Pocket A3 also led to tensions between the residents and outsiders. The residents say they are tired of cleaning the area near the gate repeatedly, while outsiders continue to treat it as a garbage dump. A large commercial unit right across the gate keeps bringing in trucks, blocking the residents’ vehicles every day.
“I would like to emphasize that the inauguration ceremony is a strictly regulated event. There are certain traditions that have developed over decades in the US, but each president-elect brings his own specifics,” the senior diplomat told TASS. “We approach all of this with calm. We do not interfere in US internal affairs at all and have never done so, nor in any protocol matters,” Ryabkov stressed.
According to the senior diplomat, this issue lies “on the periphery” for Moscow, and Russia views it “detachedly.”
Earlier, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Trump had not sent Russian President Vladimir Putin an invitation to the inauguration, scheduled for January 20, 2025. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov stated that Russia’s special representatives would not attend Trump’s inauguration ceremony, as it does not expect the presence of foreign delegations, except for envoys accredited in Washington.
Ambassadors and other high-ranking diplomats are typically invited to US presidential inaugurations. According to the State Department, no foreign leader has attended a US inauguration ceremony since 1874.
The ‘AirHelp Score report 2024’ placed the domestic carrier near the bottom at 103rd place out of 109 analysed. The report also ranked Air India at 61st and AirAsia at 94th

IndiGo
New Delhi: Low-cost airline IndiGo on Wednesday refuted findings of a report which claimed that IndiGo has been ranked among the world’s worst airlines this year.
The ‘AirHelp Score report 2024’ placed the domestic carrier near the bottom at 103rd place out of 109 analysed. The report also ranked Air India at 61st and AirAsia at 94th.
In a statement, IndiGo said that India’s aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), publishes data on airline punctuality and customer complaints monthly.
“IndiGo has consistently scored high on punctuality and has the lowest customer complaint ratio for an airline of its size and scale of operations,” said the airline.
It further stated that the data published in the survey by AirHelp, an EU claim processing agency, “does not report the sample size from India, and neither takes into account the methodology or compensation guidelines used by the global aviation industry casting a doubt on its credibility.”
“As India’s most preferred airline, IndiGo refutes the findings of this survey and reiterates its promise of on-time, affordable, courteous and hassle-free travel experience for its customers,” said the aviation major.
According to the DGCA data, during the nine-month period (January-September), budget carrier IndiGo carried more than 7.25 crore passengers, clocking a market share of 61.3 per cent, followed by Tata Group-run Air India flying over 1.64 crore passengers with 13.9 per cent share.
With its fleet of more than 380 aircraft, the airline is operating around 2,100 daily flights and connecting over 85 domestic destinations and more than 30 international destinations.
Brussels Airlines, Qatar Airways and United Airlines occupy the top three spots in the AirHelp report. The annual report by AirHelp, a company specialising in passenger compensation claims, covered data from January to October.
It used factors such as global customer claims, on-time performance, and feedback from travellers across 54 countries “ assessing aspects like food quality, seating comfort, and crew service ” to rank the airlines.
Telangana government’s decision to stop special shows and ticket price hikes is likely to hit the BO collections for movies making it difficult for filmmakers to recover their investments

Upcoming big budget films in Telugu likely to be affected
The tragic incident of a stampede at Sandhya theatre on December 4, leading to the death of a 37-year-old woman and asphyxiation of her eight-year-old son Sri Tej – who is currently undergoing treatment in a city hospital, has been grabbing headlines over the past few days, not just in Telangana but also across the nation.
The incident, which took place during the premiere show of Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa: The Rule’ screening, led to the arrest of the south actor who was later granted an interim bail.
During the Assembly session today (December 21), the Congress Government brought up the issue and added a surprising twist to the ‘sops’ story of the Telugu film industry. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took a hard stand stating
that there will be no benefit shows, and no ticket price hikes in Telangana anymore. The decision, spoken about at length by Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, seems to be triggered by the said incident.
With this announcement, confusion prevails in the Telugu film industry as the future of many big-budget films lined up for Sankranti looks bleak. Filmmakers of big-ticket movies with huge stars and budgets that run into hundreds of crores of rupees usually try to recover their investment within the first few days by grabbing maximum shows/screens in theatres, hiking the ticket prices, and organising special/benefit/premiere shows.
But the government’s decision to not let any of these tactics going forward, the collections at the box-office are going to take a hit. Let’s take a look at the big-budget movies set to release in the next few months.
Lead Pair Ram Charan And Kiara Advani In Game Changer
Game Changer: Ram Charan, who has gained global recognition post ‘RRR’, is headlining the movie being made on a massive scale. Bollywood diva Kiara Advani has been roped in to play the leading lady. Scheduled to release on January 10, as the first Sankranti offering, it is being made on a whopping budget of Rs 450 crore.

Daaku Maharaj: Another big-budget film that’s part of the Sankranti race is Nandamuri Balakrishna’s NBK 109, now titled ‘Daaku Maharaj’. Readying for release on January 12, the movie boasts a stellar cast including actors like Dulquer Salmaan, Bollywood actor and ‘Animal’ fame Bobby Deol, and Prakash Raj, besides Payal Rajput. It’s rumoured that the movie has a budget exceeding Rs 100 crore.
Venkatesh In Family Entertainer Sankranthiki Vasthunnam
Sankranthiki Vasthunnam: Known for his family-oriented roles and movies, Victory Venkatesh is considered a bankable star who has given major hits in the recent years including ‘F2’, ‘F3’, ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Drishyam 2’, among others. His latest outing is slated to release on January 14, as part of the Sankranti line-up.
Naga Chaitanya And Sai Pallavi Team Up For Thandel
Thandel: Starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles, ‘Thandel’ is another anticipated film to hit the theatres on February 7. The on-screen chemistry between the lead pair in their earlier film, ‘Love Story’, was much talked about, raising the expectations for the upcoming movie. But will they be able to recreate magic and bring audiences to the theatres needs to be seen.
Pawan Kalyan In Hari Hara Veera Mallu
Hari Hara Veera Mallu: This highly-anticipated epic period drama of power star Pawan Kalyan has been in the making for a few years now. Owing to PK’s political career, the movie’s shoot has been affected, leading to much delay. Being made on a budget of around Rs 200 crore, the movie is power star’s first film after his election to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. But, without concessions and benefits, will the movie stand a chance to recover the money? We will get to see on March 28 when the movie releases.
Megastar To Thrill Audiences In Vishwambhara
Vishwambhara: Another movie from the mega family, featuring the megastar Chiranjeevi himself in the lead, ‘Vishwambhara’ is gearing up for a release in March 2025. The fantasy action film, written and directed by Mallidi Vassishta and produced by UV Creations, is made on a budget of over Rs 350 crore. The film boasts an ensemble cast including known names like Trisha Krishnan, Bollywood actors Janhvi Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur and Meenakshi Chaudhary, among others.
Prabhas In The Raja Saab
The Raja Saab: With ‘Darling’ Prabhas in the lead role, ‘The Raja Saab’ is being made on a Rs 400 crore budget. Bollywood biggie Sanjay Dutt is cast in a major role in this horror comedy film which is set to hit the big screens on April 10. Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar and Nidhhi Agerwal are also part of the upcoming project. After the stupendous success of Prabhas’s pan-India film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, audiences have huge expectations from this one.
Besides these, there are other movies like VD12, starring Vijay Deverakonda, and ‘L2:Empuran’, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s much-anticipated sequel to the superhit movie ‘Lucifer’, among a few others, are also gearing up to hit the silver screens. However, in the current scenario, post the announcement by Telangana CM, how many of these films will be able to break even and move into the profits zone, only time will tell.
