M. Mahender Reddy, the current Chairman of the TGPSC, who assumed office in January this year, will step down on December 3 upon turning 62. Venkatesham is set to take over as Chairman on the same day, with his tenure expected to last until 2030.

Hyderabad: Senior bureaucrat Burra Venkatesham is set to become the new Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) Chairman.

The present TGPSC Chairman M Mahender Reddy, who took the charge in January this year, will demit office on December 3 as he completes 62 years. Venkatesham is expected to take the charge on the same day when Reddy demits office. He is expected to continue as the TGPSC Chairman till 2030.


Prior to taking charge, Venkatesham, who is principal secretary to government (Education department) and principal secretary to governor (FAC), will submit resignation, seeking voluntary retirement from all India services.

Senior bureaucrat, who hails from Obul Keshavapura in Jangaon district, completed his schooling from the government schools in Warangal and Nalgonda districts. He later did intermediate in Hyderabad and secured BA degree in 1989 followed by LLB degree in 1992 from Osmania University. Venkatesham, it is said, conducted home tuitions in Shaikpet during his undergraduate education in Hyderabad.

To be new TGPSC Chairman cleared the civil services in the first attempt and got into the customs department in 1990. However, his determination to secure the IAS position made him take another Civils attempt in which secured all India 15th rank.

After his brief stint as assistant collector in Adilabad between 1996 and 1997, he served in different positions and went on to become principal secretary to government.

As BC Welfare department principal secretary, Venkatesham successfully set up 119 BC Welfare residential schools, 261 junior colleges and 32 residential degree colleges, ensuring access to quality education for students from disadvantaged communities. As Tourism department principal secretary he launched Heli Tourism ‘Hyderabad Joy Ride’ in Hyderabad, which is attracting large visitors from across the State.

Meanwhile, the government has issued orders re-designating Venkatesham as Special Chief Secretary (Education department).
