President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran has signed strategic agreements with Turkmenistan in line with the policy of expanding bilateral cooperation.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkmenistan’s National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow following their meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said the dialogue they had was good and effective.

"Strategic agreements between us and Turkmenistan have been signed; and we hope these interactions and agreements will lead to expanded cooperation in other areas."

The Iranian president said he will soon visit Ashgabat to follow up on the agreements.

Berdimuhamedow also confirmed the talks between were held in a “friendly and brotherly atmosphere,” and expressed hope that the extensive negotiations will yield results and further strengthen the “brotherly relationship between Iran and Turkmenistan.”

"We discussed major issues and projects such as gas, energy, electricity, roads, and transportation in the negotiations, and we hope that the results will be positive for the implementation of these plans."

"We also agreed to assign the follow-up of these cooperations to a joint commission so they can oversee the implementation of the plans."

Berdimuhamedow said he firmly believes these plans will be significant “not only at the bilateral level but also at the regional level.”

He also mentioned that he has invited President Pezeshkian to visit Turkmenistan shortly.

Berdimuhamedow arrived at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran on Wednesday morning to hold high-level talks with Iranian officials. The two sides signed four cooperation documents in various fields, including gas and customs.
