Jerusalem: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said early Monday that all restrictions it put in place shortly before Iran’s overnight attack on Saturday have been lifted.

The restrictions, including a ban on all educational activities and large outdoor gatherings, came into effect on Saturday night as part of Israel‘s defensive efforts ahead of Iran’s missile and drone attack, Xinhua news agency reported.

They were originally supposed to expire on Monday night.

However, the IDF Home Front Command decided to lift them as of midnight between Sunday and Monday “following a situation assessment”, the IDF said in a statement.

Russia: UN meeting on Iran retaliation ‘display of hypocrisy’

Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations

Russia’s UN envoy denounces as hypocritical, a meeting of the world body’s Security Council on Iran’s recent retaliatory strikes against the Israeli regime’s April 1 deadly terrorist attack on the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic premises in Damascus.

Addressing the gathering on Sunday, Vasily Nebenzya called it “a display of hypocrisy and double standards, which is almost embarrassing to watch.”

“You know very well that an attack on a diplomatic mission is a casus belli under international law,” he stated.

“If Western missions were attacked, you would not hesitate to retaliate and prove your case in this room. Because for you, everything that concerns Western missions and Western citizens is sacred and must be protected,” the Russian official added.

The Israeli attack resulted in the martyrdom of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.

Retaliating against the attack, the IRGC targeted the occupied territories late on Saturday with a barrage of drones and missiles.

The retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation True Promise, has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories, but the extent of which is yet to be specified.

Iran warns US against initiating military action

Iran’s UN ambassador has warned the United States against initiating military action against the country in the aftermath of the Islamic Republic’s recent legitimate retaliatory operation against the Israeli regime, Washington’s most treasured regional ally.

“Iran has no intention of engaging in conflict with the US in the region,” Iran’s permanent Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani told a UN Security Council meeting on Sunday.

“However, if the US initiates military operations against Iran, its citizens, or its security and interests, Iran will use its inherent right to respond proportionately,” he added.

On April 1, the Israeli regime committed a terrorist attack against Iran’s diplomatic premises in the Syrian capital Damascus.

Following the reprisal, Iran both relayed the message that it viewed the matter as “concluded,” and also warned the US against trying to involve itself in the conflict.

Shortly after the retaliation, Iran’s permanent mission to the UN issued a statement, saying the conflict was one between the Islamic Republic and the rogue regime, “of which the United States should stay away.”

Iravani added, “We demonstrated our commitment to peace by exercising our restraint about involving the US Army in intercepting Iranian drones and missiles bound for military targets in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

“This underscores our dedication to de-escalating tensions and avoiding the expansion of conflict.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the envoy lambasted the US and the UK for their protecting the Israeli regime against accountability.

“The US and the UK are fully responsible for all its (Israel’s) decades-long aggressions and other crimes and unlawful measures in our region,” he said.

“Furthermore, they are responsible for all crimes of the Israeli regime, as it cannot commit any of such savage crimes in Gaza without the consent, order, and all-out political, financial, and military support of, and collaboration with, the United States and the UK.”

The envoy was referring to the regime’s October 7-present war against the Gaza Strip, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 33,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Iravani, meanwhile, cautioned that “the absence of accountability and the [Security] Council’s inaction in the face of the Israeli genocide and war crimes against the Palestinian people has only emboldened this regime to continue its violations unchecked.”

Iran, Russian foreign ministers warn against further escalation in region

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov have warned that new provocative acts can lead to an escalation of tensions in the region, following Iran’s retaliatory attack on the Israeli-occupied territories.

The two diplomats made the remarks in a phone conversation on Sunday, as they discussed the latest developments in the region, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

“It was noted that a further escalation of tensions in the region and new, dangerous provocative actions could lead to a boost in tensions” in the region, the ministry said.

“Prevention of such scenarios and elimination of their causes must receive particularly prioritized attention within the UN Security Council,” it added.

The ministry further noted that “The Iranian Foreign Minister informed his Russian counterpart about the measures, undertaken by Tehran in response to the April 1 Israeli airstrike at the consular department of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, which led to the death of official Iranian representatives.”

It also said the two sides reaffirmed their position in favor of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched extensive missile and drone strikes against the occupied territories late on Saturday in response to Israel’s missile attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus on April 1.

The retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation True Promise, has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories, but the extent of which is yet to be specified.

The Israeli attack on Iran’s diplomatic facilities in Syria resulted in the martyrdom of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.

The terrorist attack drew categorical condemnation from senior Iranian political and military leaders, who vowed “definitive revenge.”

Iran attacks on Israel unmasked ‘belated crusaders’: Leader’s aide

File photo shows Ali Akbar Velayati who is a senior aide to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

A senior aide to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says recent Iranian attacks on Israel exposed the vulnerabilities of a regime which has always been propped up by Western governments as an invincible regional power.

Ali Akbar Velayati made the remarks in a Sunday phone call with Ismail Haniyeh, who serves as politburo chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

He said Iran’s overnight missile and drone attacks that targeted deep inside the Israeli-occupied territories crushed the myth of invincibility that has surrounded the Israeli regime since world wars.

“… this decisive and crushing move of defense broke up the fake grandeur of the Zionists and exposed the world’s belated crusaders,” he said while likening Israel and its Western supporters to Crusaders who sought to take control of the Holy Land more than 10 centuries ago.

Iran’s attacks on Israel came nearly two weeks after the regime carried out an airstrike on an Iranian diplomatic mission in Syria.

Iran had vowed to respond firmly to the attack which killed senior commanders of the elite IRGC military force stationed in Syria.

Velayati’s conversation with Haniyeh come as Hamas is still fighting a brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza that has killed more than 33,500 people since it started in early October.

Iran has offered full support to Hamas and other resistance groups in Palestine as they struggle against the Israeli occupation and its atrocities against the Palestinians.

Haniyeh, who lost three sons last week to an Israeli airstrike in north of Gaza, thanked Velayati for his condolences and said that he was happy that his children had been martyred on the path to liberate the Holy Quds.
