Noting that Iran has never been seeking to escalate tensions in the region, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-abdollahian has said that the Zionist regime has seemingly misinterpreted Iran’s restraint.
The foreign minister made the remarks in a phone conversation on Monday with his Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg.
He described Iran’s Saturday night strikes on Zionist targets as the country’s legitimate right to self-defense.
The Austrian foreign minister, for his part, said that more regional conflicts will be detrimental to everyone, underlining the need for diplomatic efforts to put an end to the crisis in Gaza Strip.
TEHRAN, Apr. 16 (MNA) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Malaysia emphasized the need to pursue the strengthening of cooperation between Tehran and Kuala Lumpur in various fields.
Ahead of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s visit this month, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that “Pakistan is in a position to complete [gas] pipeline project with Iran, and makes decision regarding it”.
“We are constructing gas pipeline on our side from Gwadar to the Iranian border,” Asif said while speaking on Geo News’ Capital Talk programme on Monday.
Earlier this month, The News reported that Pakistan commenced the work to begin the construction of the 80km section of the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline from Gwadar to a point where it can be connected with the Iranian section of the project.
Israel-Iran tensions amid war on Gaza
In the same talk show, the defence minister condemned the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus that led to the killing of senior military officers.
Asif categorically said that Iran has the right to retaliate as Israel attacked the former’s consulate in open violation of international laws.
He added that Pakistan was also expecting a retaliation from Iran after the Israeli attack. He expressed his views that the attack on the Iranian consulate was result of supporting Palestinians. Asif said that Pakistan is firmly standing beside the Palestinians.
He feared that rising tensions in the Middle East might affect other countries including Pakistan. Asif added that the flames of war would also engulf those countries who are backing Israel.
“We do not want tensions to increase, however, genocide of Palestinians must be stopped,” urged Asif.
The sacrifices of the Palestinians will not go in vain and they will see independence soon, the defence minister said, clarifying that Pakistan was not facing any kind of pressure to recognise Israel.
In a Monday message marking the National Army Day, Mousavi said great defensive measures of the country’s Army and Armed Forces have resulted in strong deterrent power.
Iran has conveyed its message of power to the world in a way that the world has realized that the Iranian Armed Forces will give a “stormy and unified” response to any aggression against the country’s national interests, borders, and security, he asserted.
The leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei noted that Iran’s firm response to an act of aggression by the usurping Israeli enemy against its diplomatic premises in the Syrian capital of Damascus brought joy to oppressed nations, especially the resilient people of Palestine and Gaza.
Mousavi emphasized that the retaliatory strikes, dubbed Operation True Promise, revealed only a part of the capacity and strong will of the Iranian Armed Forces and were carried out in cooperation among the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Division, the Army, and the Defense Ministry.
He said the Army has played a key role in strengthening the country’s defense power, independence, and lasting security by implementing various measures.
It has constructed strategic drone and underground tactical bases and made hundreds of modern defense achievements in the land, air, sea, and space sectors in addition to advancing in science and technology, he explained.
Now the enemies lack the courage to carry out any act of aggression against the Islamic establishment and the noble Iranian nation, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said.
He added that Iran has staged several joint military drills to enhance national security and dignity.
The Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus killed two generals of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, as well as five of their accompanying officers.
In response, on Saturday night, the IRGC targeted the Israeli-occupied territories with a barrage of drones and missiles. The extent of the damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories is yet to be specified.
Following the reprisal, Iran warned Israel against taking any retaliatory actions and also urged the US to try not to involve itself in the conflict and signaled that it viewed the matter as “concluded.”
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Iran has warned the United States about potential consequences of repeated Israeli military adventurism against the Islamic Republic.
The top diplomat made the remarks in a Monday phone call with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
“We have clearly warned the White House that, in case of [fresh] adventurism by the Zionist regime in repeating terrorist aggression against Iran’s interests and security, Tehran’s subsequent response and action would be decisive, immediate, and extensive,” Amir-Abdollahian said.
On April 1, the Israeli regime committed a terrorist attack against Iran’s diplomatic premises in the Syrian capital Damascus.
The Israeli attack resulted in the martyrdom of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.
Retaliating against the attack, the IRGC targeted the occupied territories late on Saturday with a barrage of drones and missiles. The retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation True Promise, has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories.
Following the reprisal, Iran both relayed the message that it viewed the matter as “concluded,” and also warned the US, the Israeli regime’s biggest ally, against trying to involve itself in the conflict.
For his part, the Chinese official said Beijing vehemently condemned the attack on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, considering it to be in violation of international rules and principles.
Wang noted how his country had likewise supported the Islamic Republic’s just demands at the United Nations Security Council, despite double-standard practices on the part of the US and its Western allies, which saw them refusing to condemn the Israeli atrocity.
He said he had notified his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, about the Iranian party’s principled position concerning the recent developments.
“China and the Islamic Republic are strategic partners,” Wang added, saying, “Beijing always attaches great importance to Iran’s positions and standpoint.”
“What good is it for the British government to provide this amount of irresponsible support [to Israel]?” Amir-Abdollahian asked British Foreign Secretary David Cameron during a phone conversation on Monday, Press TV reported.
It is strange that Britain is concerned about Iran’s response to Israel’s brutal attack on the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic premises in Damascus, but shows no concern about the thousands of tons of bombs dropped on Palestinian homes by the Tel Aviv regime over the past six months.
He emphasized that Iran’s retaliatory strikes against Israel, dubbed Operation True Promise, were carried out in line with the principle of legitimate self-defense as stipulated in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran does not welcome the escalation of tension in the region but if the Israeli regime is after adventurism, our next response will be immediate, stronger and more extensive,” the top Iranian diplomat emphasized.
Amir-Abdollahian said the operation against Israel aimed to punish the regime for its deadly attacks against the consular section of Iran’s embassy in Damascus on April 1, which killed Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.
In response, on Saturday night, the IRGC targeted the Israeli-occupied territories with a barrage of drones and missiles. The retaliatory strikes inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories.
The extent of the damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories is yet to be specified.
However, informed sources told Press TV that all the hypersonic missiles used in Iran’s punitive strikes against Israel hit their targets after evading the regime’s air defense systems.
The British foreign minister, for his part, expressed concern over the escalation of tensions in the region after Iran’s retaliatory response to Israel.
Cameron said Iran’s military operation against Israel was very worrying and will heighten tension in the region.
However, he added, Britain will at the same time ask Israel not to take any action in response because it will deteriorate the situation.
Israel’s war crimes, genocide, hybrid war in Gaza root causes of crisis in region
In a phone call with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg on Monday, Amir-Abdollahian said Israel’s war crimes, genocide and hybrid war in the Gaza Strip are the root causes of crisis in the region, according to the Press TV report.
He once again reiterated that Iran has never sought to escalate tensions in the region but the Israeli regime had apparently misinterpreted Tehran’s restraint.
The Austrian foreign minister, for his part, said the continuation of conflicts would harm all the countries in the region.
Schallenberg emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and added that more diplomatic consultations and talks are necessary to solve the crisis in the Strip.
Austria, along with the European Union, has condemned Israel’s attacks on Iran’s diplomatic facilities in Damascus, he noted.
Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza began on October 7 in the aftermath of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas’s Operation Al-Aqsa Storm. It has so far killed at least 33,797 people, mostly children and women, and wounded 76,465 others with thousands more presumed dead under the rubble.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has criticized Britain’s extensive support for Israel even as the regime continues to kill innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“What good is it for the British government to provide this amount of irresponsible support [to Israel]?” Amir-Abdollahian asked British Foreign Secretary David Cameron during a phone conversation on Monday.

The first International Park Forum was held in Moscow’s exhibition centre “Expocentre”. Specialists from China, Brazil, South Africa, Egypt, India, Iran and other countries became guests of the event, which was held with the informational support of TV BRICS.
At the plenary sessions and panel discussions, representatives of executive authorities, businesses, park directors, architects and urbanists discussed methods to make BRICS cities more comfortable and environmentally friendly. They also considered joint projects that have already been created, such as the Huaming Park in Moscow.
“I managed to visit Zaryadye. Words cannot describe how much I liked everything there. Great design, but the main thing that shocked me was how great the architects managed to integrate different natural zones into the urban massif,” said Brazilian architect and urbanist Pedro Lira.
“I think Egypt can learn a lot from Moscow. The country is currently experiencing a construction boom, new large-scale development projects, and it is necessary to pay very serious attention to ecology and green space, as they try to do in the Russian capital,” said Ali Alraouf, an Egyptian international expert in the field of sustainable development and urban planning.
Over the two days, the forum participants not only discussed topical issues of the industry, but also started working on new international projects. Plans for the development of Russian regions include the reconstruction of the embankment of Kazan’s Kaban lake, where ultra-modern and environmentally friendly housing will be built on the foundations of a pre-revolutionary factory.
