Hyderabad: Former South African captain and Virat Kohli‘s former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate AB de Villiers on Saturday revealed that the star Indian cricketer and his actor wife Anushka Sharma were expecting their second child.

AB de Villiers told that he has checked on Virat Kohli after the batter withdrew from the first two Tests of the ongoing 5-match Test series between India and England.

Asked about Virat’s well-being during his YouTube live, the South African legend said that Virat was doing well and that he was spending time with his family. “All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well,” AB said in his YouTube live.

Revealing his conversation with Kohli over text, de Villiers said “So I wrote ‘Been wanting to check in  with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?.’ He said ‘Just need to be with my family right now’. Then I said I am doing well.”

He added, “Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him, but he has made the right decision.”

Earlier, the BCCI has said that Virak Kohli has spoken to captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors that said that there were some personal situations which demanded his presence.

Visakhapatnam: India bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Saturday etched his name in history, becoming the fastest Indian fast bowler to reach the milestone of 150 wickets. The ace pacer achieved this feat in just 34 games, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev, who took 39 matches to achieve the same milestone.

Waqar Younis remains the quickest bowler, achieving this milestone in just his 27th Test. While Erapalli Prasanna and Anil Kumble also took 34 Tests apiece to get the mark among the spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin (29) and Ravindra Jadeja (32) are the only Indians to reach the milestone faster than Bumrah.

Bumrah’s remarkable journey places him in elite company, with only a select few bowlers globally reaching 150 Test wickets in fewer matches. In his 16th home Test, Bumrah has showcased his prowess with an astonishing tally of 24 wickets at an average of 14-plus. This includes a notable five-wicket haul (5-24) that underlines his impact on home soil.

Against England, Bumrah has notched up 50 Test wickets, maintaining an impressive average of 22-plus, a testament to his effectiveness against the formidable opposition. Known for his ability to turn the tide of a match, Bumrah boasts an impressive record of nine five-wicket hauls in Tests, with six of them coming in SENA countries.

This places him joint second with Zaheer Khan and B.S. Chandrasekhar, behind only Kapil Dev. Bumrah’s influence extends beyond home conditions, as he stands among the select few Indians to have taken over 100 wickets in SENA countries – South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. With 113 wickets, he joins the ranks of legends like Anil Kumble, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Zaheer Khan, and Kapil Dev as bowlers who have taken more than 150 wickets in Test cricket. Bumrah’s crowning moment came against West Indies in Kingston in 2019, where he produced a career-best Test innings, claiming 6-27.

This remarkable performance also included a hat-trick, making him the third Indian to achieve this rare feat in Test cricket.

2nd Test: Crawley, Duckett take England to 32/0 after Jaiswal’s 209 carries India to 396

2nd Test: Crawley, Duckett take England to 32/0 after Jaiswal’s 209 carries India to 396

Visakhapatnam: England‘s openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett came out unscathed from the small period of batting for 20 minutes in the first session after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 209 carried India to a first-innings total of 396 on day two of second Test at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

At lunch, England are 32/0 in six overs and trail India by 364 runs. After seeing off Jasprit Bumrah’s opening over, Duckett’s first boundary came off an inside edge against Mukesh Kumar, while Crawley whipped the pacer for four to get off the mark. Duckett was more assured at the crease, seen from him taking three boundaries off Mukesh in the fourth over, to make it England’s session with both bat and ball.

Earlier, Jaiswal converted his overnight score of 179 not out into a maiden double century in Tests, though India missed out on reaching 400 by just four runs. Playing in just his sixth Test match, Jaiswal mixed caution and aggression in equal measure and stood tall even as his team-mates fell from the other end.

He become the third youngest Indian batter to score a double hundred in Test cricket, via a six and four off debutant England spinner Shoaib Bashir in the 102nd over. His incredible career-best knock of 209 from 290 balls was laced with 19 fours and seven sixes, before being dismissed by veteran fast-bowler James Anderson.

But it was a morning which made England happy as India’s last four wickets fell for only 32 runs. Anderson took three wickets in his miserly spell while Bashir and Rehan Ahmed also took three scalps each.

In the morning, Ravichandran Ashwin was exquisite in his cover drives off Bashir, while Jaiswal, who survived an lbw appeal off Anderson, whacked the off-spinner by dancing down the pitch to smack a six over long-on to enter the 190s. Anderson got the first wicket of the morning when he squared up Ashwin on defence and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes took the catch behind.

Jaiswal brought up his double-hundred in style with back-to-back boundaries off Bashir – a slog-sweep over backward square leg for six was followed by sweeping a full toss for four. Jaiswal celebrated by removing his helmet, jumping with joy and blowing kisses to a weekend crowd giving him a standing ovation and chanting his name to applaud a magnificent knock by the youngster.

He then tried taking the attack against Anderson – a thick edge on being squared up went for four. But Jaiswal lost his wicket when he tried to slice off Anderson after coming down the pitch, only for deep cover to take the catch. It brought an end to a momentous knock from Jaiswal, who was rightfully given a standing ovation by everyone in the stadium on his way back to the dugout.

India’s innings ended swiftly after Jaiswal’s fall as Bumrah edged to first slip off Ahmed and Mukesh too fell in the same fashion off Bashir, as the hosts’ fell short of 400 by just four runs. With the pitch still playing relatively well, though there’s been some evidence of variable bounce for spinners when Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav were introduced into the bowling attack at the stroke of lunch, it sets up the platform nicely for a big second session.

Brief scores: India 396 in 112 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 209, Shubman Gill 34; James Anderson 3-47, Rehan Ahmed 3-65) lead England 32/0 in six overs (Ben Duckett 17 not out, Zak Crawley 15 not out) by 364 runs

Jasprit Bumrah celebrates the wicket of England’s Ollie Pope on the second day of the second cricket test match between India and England, at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, in Visakhapatnam, Saturday.

Hyderabad: Jasprit Bumrah is undoubtedly the spearhead of the Indian pace battery. With his exceptional bowling prowess, he proves time and again why he is the best fast bowler in the Indian cricket team.

In another display of his exceptional skill, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a jaffa to rattle the stumps of the first match’s hero Ollie Pope who got dismissed for 23 runs in the 28th over of England’s first innings of the second test match being played in Visakhapatnam.

Bumrah’s lethal yorker reverse-swung into the base of the middle and leg stumps knocking them out of the ground, as Pope had no answers to the delivery.

Bumrah’s double strike, Kuldeep, and Axar Shine as India restricts England to 155/4 in 2nd Test

England, at tea, stands at 155/4 in 33 overs, trailing India by 241 runs. The session kicked off with Zak Crawley, celebrating his birthday, receiving a reprieve at 18, as Shubman Gill couldn’t grasp a chance at short mid-wicket.

Bumrah’s double strike, Kuldeep, and Axar Shine as India restricts England to 155/4 in 2nd Test

Visakhapatnam: A sizzling double-strike from Jasprit Bumrah, along with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picking a scalp each helped India bounce back in the second session on day two’s play at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

At tea, England are 155/4 in 33 overs and trail India by 241 runs. The session began with birthday boy Zak Crawley getting a life at 18, when Shubman Gill couldn’t hold on to a chance at short mid-wicket. Crawley proceeded to take four boundaries off Bumrah and even took a boundary off Ashwin by beating leg-gully on his right.

But India soon had a wicket when Kuldeep Yadav got extra bounce on a good length ball which Ben Duckett tried to defend and the ball was safely caught by silly point. Ollie Pope survived on his very first ball when KS Bharat couldn’t gather the ball cleanly, thus missing a stumping chance.

Crawley continued to go his way undeterred – driving Kuldeep firmly through long-off for four, before slog-sweeping for six to get his fifty in just 52 balls. While Pope was being tested by the Indian spinners, especially by Ravichandran Ashwin on the outside edge, Crawley was nailing his slog-sweep, punch and drive against the off-spinner for boundaries as England reached 100 in 20th over.

Crawley’s fun came to an end on 78 when he tried to take on a slightly wide ball against Axar Patel and the ball took the leading edge to a back-tracking backward point. Joe Root was off the mark with a reverse-sweep, but was teased by away-swingers from a probing Bumrah. The plan worked well as Root poked at the corridor of uncertainty and edged to first slip.

Pope was the next person to be taken out by Bumrah, looking clueless against a pacy inswinging yorker which slipped past his toes to leave middle and leg stumps in complete mess. Jonny Bairstow has looked very fluent in his 24 not out from 28 balls, especially in cutting off the spinners for boundaries, while Ben Stokes (five not out) ended the session with a slog-sweep off Kuldeep for four.

Brief scores: India 396 in 112 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 209, Shubman Gill 34; James Anderson 3-47, Rehan Ahmed 3-65) lead England 155/4 in 33 overs (Zak Crawley 76, Jonny Bairstow 24 not out; Jasprit Bumrah 2-27, Axar Patel 1-24) by 241 runs
