Dubai: Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammed Nabi on Wednesday became the oldest player to headline the ICC ODI all-rounders’ list, ending Shakib Al Hasan’s long reign at the top.

There is little to no change at the top of the Test rankings with India’s Jasprit Bumrah firmly perched at the top of the bowlers’ list. India’s Ravindra Jadeja, who is set to return in the third Test against England beginning Thursday, still led the way comprehensively in Test all-rounders’ rankings.

Nabi reached the No.1 spot following his 136 during the opening match of Afghanistan’s three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, while the 39-year-old also picked up a wicket in the same contest to gain one place and move to seventh on the latest rankings for ODI bowlers.

At 39 years 1 month, Nabi has become the oldest player to top the ICC ODI all-rounders’ table, breaking the record held by Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was 38 years 8 months when he was top in June 2015.

The Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib held the position for for 1739 days — from May 7, 2019 (when he took over from Rashid Khan) until February 9 — the longest unbroken stretch anyone has had on top of the ODI all-rounder rankings.

But an ongoing injury concern coupled with some good recent form from Nabi has seen a change at the top.

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj maintained his lead at the top of ODI bowlers’ list while Sri Lanka duo Wanindu Hasaranga (up 14 spots to equal 26th) and Dilshan Madushanka (up four places to 33rd) joined Nabi in making some ground on the latest set of rankings released on Wednesday.

Osaka’s Last Pair of Wins at a WTA Tournament Was at the 2022 Miami Open, Where She Ended as Runner-Up to Iga Swiatek

Qatar Open: Naomi Osaka edges Martic; Tsurenko upsets Jabeur

Doha: Naomi Osaka scored a second-round 6-3, 7-6(9) win over Croatia’s Petra Martic and earned her back-to-back victories at a WTA Tour event for the first time in 23 months.

Osaka last won two matches at a WTA tournament at the 2022 Miami Open, where she eventually finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek. But after defeating No.15 seed Caroline Garcia in the first round this week the former World No.1 took another step forward by beating World No.67 Martic in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The four-time Grand Slam champion was on top of Martic — whom she last played 10 years ago — for nearly the duration of the match. But she failed to serve out victory at 6-3, 5-4, and eventually, saved four set points in an epic second-set tiebreak to seal the straight-sets win, on Tuesday, WTA reports.

Bidding for a spot in the quarterfinals of a WTA event for the first time since that effort in Miami, Osaka will next face World No.37 Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine, who was a 6-3, 6-2 winner against No.4 seed Ons Jabeur.

Tsurenko won nine straight games from 3-1 down in the first set against World No.6 Jabeur to score her first Top 10 victory in five years.

Jabeur, meanwhile, told reporters after the match that she was plagued by small problem in her right knee throughout the 81-minute affair, similar issues that affected her last week in a 6-3, 6-4 quarterfinal loss to Beatriz Haddad Maia.

“Definitely much better than last week, but it’s still there, unfortunately. It will not heal in two or three days, but I’m doing my best to heal it, and I think it’s going to be very positive for the next weeks, said Jabeur.

Champions League: De Bruyne Leads Manchester City to 3-1 victory over Copenhagen

Copenhagen: Kevin De Bruyne scored one goal and produced two assists as Manchester City maintained their perfect start to their UEFA Champions League defence with an impressive 3-1 win in the first leg of their last-16 tie at FC Copenhagen.

Tuesday night’s win means will take a two-goal advantage into the second leg of our Champions League Round of 16 tie with FC Copenhagen on March 6.

Kevin De Bruyne got the scoring underway for the European champions in the 10th minute with a low strike on his first Champions League start of the season.

Copenhagen grabbed a surprise equaliser in the 34th minute when Magnus Mattsson curled home but City regained the lead shortly before half-time thanks to a deft Bernardo Silva finish.

Phil Foden topped the night off in added time with a powerful hit beyond goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

The victory marks City’s 10th consecutive win in European football – a run comprising of nine Champions League successes stretching back to last season’s semifinal and including the UEFA Super Cup penalty shootout win over Sevilla.

Pep Guardiols’s side’s run of nine straight victories in Champions League is the longest ever for any English side while Foden’s late goal means City are the first side in Champions League history to score three or more goals in seven successive games.

It also extends City’s unbeaten run in the Champions League to 20 matches and their current sequence of victories to 11 in all competitions.

Real Madrid defeats Leipzig in UEFA Champions League

Leipzig’s Bright Start Thwarted by Offside Call on Sesko’s Goal

Real Madrid defeats Leipzig in UEFA Champions League

Berlin: Brahim Diaz’s sole goal was enough for clinical Real Madrid to secure a 1-0 away victory over a resilient RB Leipzig in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie.

Leipzig started brightly on home soil and thought they had opened the scoring with just two minutes played, but Benjamin Sesko’s goal was ruled offside.

Courageous Leipzig continued to be offensively-minded and came close in the 10th minute when Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin had to save a shot from Sesko, reports Xinhua.

The Slovenia international kept Real Madrid‘s defense busy after hitting the side netting from a tight angle 10 minutes later. Meanwhile, the uninspired visitors from Madrid lacked in accuracy in the final third in the first half.

Things changes after the restart as Real broke the deadlock against the run of play on 49 minutes, after Diaz shrugged off two Leipzig defenders before curling the ball past keeper Peter Gulacsi into the top-left corner.

Leipzig tried to respond but Sesko couldn’t overcome Lunin with a rebound from very close range two minutes later.

With a narrow lead, Real Madrid focused on counterattacks and almost made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute when Vinicius Junior rattled the right post following a one-on-one with Gulacsi.

The hosts remained in search for an equalizer, but Lunin stood firm and defused another effort from Sesko with a diving save in the 81st minute. Lunin was again on guard and secured Real a clean sheet three minutes later after parrying Amandou Haidara’s volley from close range.

Leipzig will travel to Madrid for the second leg on March 6.

“A solo action decided the game today. Frankly, the game could have gone in both directions as Leipzig started powerfully while we improved after the restart,” said Real veteran Toni Kroos.

“We staged a good performance on home soil, but we must make the most of our chances. Real scores one goal out of thin air, but we can’t complain, we just must turn our chances into a tangible reward,” said Leipzig’s David Raum.

‘I’m well and truly done’: David Warner confirms T20I against West Indies was his last at home

Perth: Swashbuckling Australia batter David Warner, who has already drawn curtains on his Test and ODI career, on Tuesday addressed his T20I future and said he is “truly done,” saying now it’s time for “youngsters” to do the job.

After the third and final T20I game of the three-match series between West Indies and Australia, in which the hosts suffered a 37-run defeat, Warner confirmed that the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA will be his last assignment in international cricket.

Asked if he intended to play for Australia in the shortest format following the T20 World Cup, the opening batter said he’s “well and truly done” and is happy to give up his opening place to younger players after the World Cup.

“Good to see the boys play. I’ve got a lot of time off after the next series in New Zealand before the IPL and then to get ready for the T20 World Cup. Great to spend quality time with my kids and just be home. I was surprised that an opening bowler bowling 145+ wasn’t trying to get me out. The boundaries aren’t too big in the Caribbean. I’m well and truly done, we’ve got so many youngsters, it’s time for them to do the job,” Warner said in a post-match presentation.

In the third and final T20I match, Warner smoked 81 off 49 balls. Warner was named the Player of the Series. In 102 matches, Warner has scored 3067 runs at an average of 33.70 and a strike rate of over 142.51.

He has scored a century and 26 fifties in the format, with the best score of 100*. The 37-year-old made his T20I debut against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2009.
