Iran commandingly wins Asian Greco-Roman wrestling title

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team stood on the top podium in Bishkek at the end of the Asian Wrestling Championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday.

Nine of the ten Iranian wrestlers won medals.

This was the second Asian championship won by Iran in less than a week after the Iranian freestyle team won the title of the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championships on Friday for the sixth time in seven years.

Raeisi felicitates winning Asian title by wrestling team

In a message, President Raeisi congratulated the noble nation of Iran and especially the country’s sports community for the prestigious and valuable championship of Iran’s national Greco-Roman wrestling team in the Asian competitions in Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday.

President’s message read that, “The mighty and valuable championship of you dear ones in the Asian Greco-Roman wrestling competitions in Kyrgyzstan, which was achieved after the championship of the national freestyle wrestling team of our country, doubled the joy and happiness of the great nation of Iran.”

“I congratulate the honorable nation of Iran and especially the sports community of the country for this brilliant victory, which is another sign of the merit and excellence of you zealous children of the country in conquering the peaks of honor, and sincerely thank you for your efforts, as well as the hard work of the coaches and technical staff of the Greco-Roman wrestling team,” the message further read

“I hope that with the continuation of your efforts and dynamism, we will see more success by you in other sports competitions,” the president of Iran’s message concluded.

Iran national Greco-Roman wrestling team became Asia champion with 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Hyderabad: Sricharan Sandipagu of Viveka Foster School, Ponnur, Andhra Pradesh won the Brilliant Trophy Juniors Online Chess Tournament on Tuesday.

He scored 12 points from as many rounds to finish ahead of Adhyayan Banerjee with 10.5 points and Krishna Rallabandi with 10 points in second and third places respectively.

Hyderabad: Telangana tennis players Rishita Basireddy and Abhaya Vemuri continued their fine run of form to the quarterfinal stage of the FNCC All India Women’s 5 LAC Prize Money Tennis Tournament at Film Nagar Cultural Centre, Hyderabad on Tuesday.

In the pre-quarterfinal matches, Rishita blanked Riya Sachdeva of New Delhi 6-0, 6-0 in a one-sided encounter. Abhaya recorded a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Statemate Laxmi Siri Dandu to advance into the last-eight stage of the competition.

Iran beach volleyball defeats Thailand at 23rd Samila Open

In the semifinal, the Iranian team comprised of Abbas Pourasgari and Alireza Aghajanighasab won 2-1 against Thailand team A and advanced to the final match of the sporting event.

Iran will compete with Australia in the final match on Tuesday.

Iran had a great run in the tournament as they defeated India, Maldives, and Qatar in the preliminary stages. In the next stage, Iran also beat Japan team B, and Indonesia B to advance to the semifinal.
