Iranian, Saudi foreign ministers discuss boosting cooperation

In a phone conversation on Sunday night, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan discussed the relations between Tehran and Riyadh, as well as the latest regional developments.

The top Iranian diplomat spoke about Tehran’s diplomatic efforts and measures in the past two weeks to legally and internationally pursue the illegal Israeli actions.

He also said that the country’s retaliatory attack against Israel was a legitimate defensive action in the framework of Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.

The top Saudi diplomat, for his part, emphasized the need for expanding the regional and international cooperation between the two countries.

In response to the Israeli terrorist attack on Iran’s consulate building in Syria on April 1, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked targets in occupied Palestine with dozens of drones and missiles early on Sunday.

The Israeli regime attacked Iran’s consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 1. The Israeli aggression led to the destruction of the entire building and the martyrdom and injury of the entire people inside it.

Occupied Eilat comes under drone attack

Zionist media outlets reported a drone attack on Eilat in southern occupied Palestine on Sunday night.

Reports released by Arab news sources suggested that a number of drones were seen over the Aqaba region in Jordan, which were moving towards the city of Eilat.

The sound of several explosions was heard following the drone attack, according to the reports.

No groups have yet claimed responsibility for the drone attack.

Since the start of the al-Aqsa Storm operation on the 7th of last October, the occupied port of Eilat has been targeted several times by the Yemeni forces and the Islamic Resistance of Iraq to declare support for the oppressed people of Gaza.

Israel waged its brutal war on besieged Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out an unprecedented operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel has imposed a complete siege on the densely populated territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Iran attack against Israel only targeted military objectives

Amir Saeed Iravani made the comments in his speech at the United Nations Security Council’s emergency meeting held at the request of the Israeli regime on Sunday.

In response to the Israeli terrorist attack on Iran’s consulate building in Syria on April 1, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked targets in occupied Palestine with dozens of drones and missiles early on Sunday.

The full text of Iravani’s speech at the UNSC meeting is as follows,

Madam President,

As we informed in our letter last night, in response to the Israeli regime’s recurring military aggressions, particularly its armed attacks on 1st April 2024 against Iranian diplomatic premises, in defiance of Article 2 (4) of the Charter of the United Nations, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran carried out a series of military strikes on Israeli military objectives with dozens of missiles and drones.

Iran’s operation was entirely in the exercise of Iran’s inherent right to self-defense. This concluded action was necessary and proportionate. It was precise and only targeted military objectives, and carried out carefully to minimize the potential for escalation and prevent civilian harm.

Madam President,

We thank those members of the Council who condemned the Israeli armed attacks against our diplomatic premises in Syria. Regrettably, in this Chamber, certain members of the Council, including the US, the UK, and France have chosen once again to turn a blind eye to reality and overlook the root causes contributing to the current situation.

In hypocritical behavior, these three countries falsely blamed and accused Iran without considering their own failures to uphold their international commitments to peace and security in the region.

They made unsuccessful attempts to use lies, manipulate the narrative, spread disinformation, and engage in a destructive blame game. All the while, they deliberately disregarded Iran’s inherent right to respond to the violation of a fundamental principle of international law: the inviolability of diplomatic representatives and premises. Moreover, they ignored the underlying root causes of the current situation in the region.

Madam President,

For over six months now, these countries, especially the United States have shielded Israel from any responsibility for the Gaza massacre.

While they have denied Iran’s inherent right to self-defense against the Israeli armed attacks on our diplomatic premises, at the same time, they shamefully justified the Israeli massacre and genocide against the defenseless Palestinian people under the pretext of self-defense.

They made a cynical attempt to justify and cover up the atrocities of the Israeli regime against the people of Palestine by arbitrary and misleading interpretations of self-defense.

Madam President,

Following the Israeli regime’s cowardly terrorist and armed attack against our diplomatic premises in Damascus the Syrian Arab Republic, on the first of April, we notified the UN Security Council and Secretary-General of such international wrongful acts as well as of Iran’s inherent right under international law to respond to such terrorist armed attacks (A/78/838-S/2024/281).

Also, in a phone conversation with the UN Secretary-General on 2nd April, Iran’s Foreign Minister discussed the situation and called for taking appropriate action and strong condemnation from the international community for this horrific crime.

We called upon the Security Council to strongly denounce this unjustified criminal and terrorist act, taking decisive and appropriate measures to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly and prevent the recurrence of such horrible crimes against the diplomatic premises of any member state.

Regrettably, the Security Council has failed in its duty to maintain international peace and security. Russia proposed a press statement to denounce this atrocious act, which was backed by China, Algeria, and many members, but was blocked by the US, UK, and France. Faced with such circumstances, the Islamic Republic of Iran had no choice but to exercise its inherent right to self-defense under international law.

Madam President,

The root causes of the current situation are clear to all. From the start of the Israeli war against Palestinian people in Gaza, more than 34 thousand civilians, two-thirds of them children and women have been killed.

All civilian infrastructures have been targeted and destroyed by Israel; even humanitarian workers have not been immune from the military attacks of this rough regime. The absence of accountability and the Council’s inaction face with the Israeli genocide and war crimes against the Palestinian people has only emboldened this regime to continue its violations unchecked.

The US and its allies have blocked the Security Council for over six months, protecting Israel from accountability for the Gaza massacre. They not only avoid condemning Israel for these atrocities but also actively try to cover up them.

Their sole priority is supporting and defending Israel, regardless of the consequences and at all costs. Despite international pressure and UNSC resolutions calling for a ceasefire, Israel has defied these resolutions. Rather, its focus remains on committing more atrocious crimes, showing no regard for international legal obligations.

Madam President,

This lawless regime has committed many atrocious crimes against our people. This regime blatantly and openly admitted its responsibility for the terrorist and destructive operations committed against Iranian officials, scientists, and civilians, and sabotage against our peaceful nuclear infrastructure in recent years.

This Israeli regime even made explicit threats to use nuclear weapons against a sovereign member state of the United Nations. This terrorist regime is responsible for all criminal and terrorist acts committed against Iran and must bear the consequences.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has warned time and again about the repercussions of malicious activities of the regime on regional and international peace and security.

Iran has exercised maximum restraint. Now, it is time for the occupying regime to bear full responsibility for its consequences. This regime cannot evade accountability.

Madam President,

Israel’s ongoing destabilized and irresponsible actions and atrocities against the nations in the region are a real threat to regional and international peace and security.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s policy seeks to expand and escalate the conflict in the region to stay in power. The members of the Security Council must not allow such an august body, the Security Council to be held hostage to the ambitions of such a belligerent regime.

It is time for the Security Council to shoulder its responsibility and address the real threat to international peace and security. The Security Council must promptly fulfill its duty under Chapter 7 of the Charter in response to Israel’s reckless defiance.

It must take urgent and punitive measures to compel this regime to stop its genocide and massacre against the people of Gaza and uphold its obligations especially fully implement the UNSC resolutions and legally binding orders of the International Court of Justice.

Madam President,

The main and longstanding threat to the peace and security of our region is well-known to all, and attempts to conceal it through disinformation, smear campaigns, or baseless accusations against others are pointless and unfounded.

Iran is never seeking to contribute to the spillover of the conflict in the region nor does it to escalate or spread the tension to the entire region. Contrary to unfounded claims, Iran has no proxy in the region. No individual, group, or country acts at Iran’s behest.

The US and Israeli regime attempted to label the resistant groups in the region as proxies or terrorists.  Their sinister aim is only to justify and legalize their malicious and destabilized activities in the region.

The resistant groups are not proxies or terrorists. They are legitimate and are only fighting against the occupation and aggressions of Israel in Gaza and occupied Palestine territories and of the US in the region.

International law recognized such legitimate rights against any occupation and aggression. Instead, the U.S. and the UK are fully responsible for all its decades-long aggressions and other crimes and unlawful measures in our region.

Furthermore, they are responsible for all crimes of the Israeli regime, as it cannot commit any of such savage crimes in Gaza without the consent, order, and all-out political, financial, and military support of, and collaboration with, the United States and the UK.

We also reject the unfounded allegations made by the Israeli regime at this meeting. Therefore, such false and unfounded claims do not merit a response.

Madam President, and Excellencies,

As a responsible Member of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, reaffirms once more its commitment to the maintenance of international peace and security.

The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates its consistent position that it does not seek escalation or war in the region.

While warning about any further military provocations by the Israeli regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms its unwavering determination to defend its people, national security and interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity against any threat or acts of aggression and to respond to any such threat or aggression vigorously and in accordance with international law.

The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to exercise this right when required.

Madam President,

Iran has no intention of engaging in conflict with the US in the region.

We demonstrated our commitment to peace by exercising our restraint about involving the US Army in intercepting Iranian drones and missiles bound for military targets in the occupied Palestinian territories. This underscores our dedication to de-escalating tensions and avoiding the expansion of conflict.

However, if the US initiates military operations against Iran, its citizens, or its security and interests, Iran will use its inherent right to respond proportionately.

I thank you, Madam President.

Iran UN mission warns Israel against further provocations

The following is the full text of the explanation offered by the Iranian UN mission:

1. In the late hours of 13 April 2024, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran carried out a series of military strikes on Israeli military objectives with dozens of missiles and drones. This action was in the exercise of Iran’s inherent right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and in response to the Israeli recurring military aggressions, particularly its armed attack on 1st April 2024 against Iranian diplomatic premises, in the defiance of Article 2 (4) of the Charter of the United Nations.

2. This action was necessary and proportionate and was targeted military objectives. It was precise and carried out carefully to minimize the potential for escalation and prevent harm to civilians.

3. Following the Israeli regime’s cowardly terrorist and armed attacks against the diplomatic premises of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus the Syrian Arab Republic, in a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter, the Islamic Republic of Iran has notified the UNSC of Israeli international wrongful acts as well as of Iran’s inherent right under international law to respond to such terrorist armed attacks (A/78/838-S/2024/281).

4. In addition, in a phone conversation with the UN Secretary-General on 2nd April, Iran’s Foreign Minister discussed the situation and called for taking appropriate action and strong condemnation from the international community and the Security Council for this horrific crime.

5. In our letters addressed to UNSC and UNSG, ( S/2024/281- S/2024/305), we underscored that the Israeli regime’s armed terrorist attack against Iran’s diplomatic premises in Damascus was a flagrant violation of international law, of the United Nations Charter, in particular Article 2 (4) of the Charter, and the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic. Furthermore, This unlawful action constitutes an egregious breach of the fundamental and universally recognized principle of inviolability of diplomatic and consular representatives and premises, which serves as a cornerstone of international relations.

6. The Islamic Republic of Iran called upon the Security Council to strongly denounce this unjustified criminal and terrorist act, taking decisive and appropriate measures to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly and prevent the recurrence of such horrible crimes against the diplomatic premises of any member state.

7. Despite Russia’s request, backed by China, Algeria, and many members, from the Security Council to uphold its duty to preserve international peace and security and to denounce this atrocious act, regrettably, the Security Council has once again failed in its duty to maintain international peace and security, allowing Israeli regime to transgress red lines and violate the fundamental principle of international law. Such a failure was caused by obstruction from 3 permanent members namely, the US, the UK, and France who already blocked the Security Council for over six months to shield Israel from any responsibility for the Gaza massacre.

8. Faced with such circumstances, the Islamic Republic of Iran had no choice but to exercise its inherent right to self-defense under international law, as underscored in Yesterday’s letter to the President of the Security Council and the Secretary-General.

9. As a responsible Member of the United Nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, reaffirms once more its commitment to the maintenance of international peace and security.

10. The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates its consistent position that it does not seek escalation or spillover of the conflict in the region. While warning about any further military provocations by the Israeli regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms its unwavering determination to defend its people, national security and interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity against any threat or acts of aggression and to respond to any such threat or aggressions vigorously and in accordance with international law. Further, Iran has no intention of engaging in conflict with the US in the region. Should the US initiate military operations against Iran, its citizens, or its interests, Iran will reserve its inherent right to respond proportionately.

11. It is clear to all that Israel’s ongoing destabilized and irresponsible actions and atrocities against the nations in the region, in particular, its massacre against the people in Gaza are a real threat to regional and international peace and security. The Israeli Prime Minister’s policy seeks to expand and escalate the conflict in the region to maintain power. The members of the Security Council must not allow such an august body to be held hostage to the ambitions of such a belligerent regime. It is time for the Security Council to shoulder its responsibility and address the real threat to international peace and security. The Security Council must promptly fulfill its duty under chapter seven of the UN Charter in response to Israel’s reckless defiance and to compel this occupying regime to uphold its obligations.

Iran courageously fulfilled promise to respond to Israel

Hezbollah issued a statement on Sunday after Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones on Israeli targets late on Saturday to punish the regime for its April 1 strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

Hezbollah called Iran’s attack unprecedented and unparalleled and hailed the country’s courageous and wise decision to firmly respond to the regime’s aggression.

The resistance movement said in its statement that the Islamic Republic, despite facing threats and pressures, upheld its natural and legal right and courageously fulfilled its promise to respond based on an excellent understanding of the situation in the region and the world.

Despite cooperation by the US and its international allies and regional partners to repel this lightning attack, the military purposes of the Iranian operation were achieved, Hezbollah said, adding that “the long-term political and strategic goals of this big change will gradually appear”.

The movement said that a new phase will also be created as long as the whole Palestinian issue and the decades-long conflict with the Zionist regime is concerned.

Tehraners celebrate "Iran's slap in face of Israeli regime"

TEHRAN, Apr. 14 (MNA) – People in Tehran gathered last night after the Zionist Israeli regime received “a slap in the face” from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in retaliation for two weeks ago’s attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei describes missile and drone strikes on the Israeli regime-linked positions as a “slap in the face.”

Iran said Sunday that its retaliatory strikes on the occupied territories under the control of the Israeli regime ended with the strikes last night, warning of a “stronger” reaction if the Israeli regime responds.

Overnight on Saturday and early Sunday morning, Iran launched hundreds of retaliatory missiles and drones at targets in the occupied territories.

The attack came less than two weeks after Israeli warplanes bombed the consular annex of Iran’s embassy in the Syrian capital, killing seven IRGC members who were on an advisory mission to the Arab country.

Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad hail Iran’s retaliatory strikes in Israel

The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has praised Iran’s “brave” decision to carry out retaliatory strikes on the Israel-occupied Palestinian territories following the regime’s recent deadly aggression on the Iranian diplomatic facilities in Syria.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted Israel late on Saturday with a barrage of drones and missiles in response to the regime’s deadly assault on the consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus on April 1.

The retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation True Promise, has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories, but the extent of which is yet to be specified.

In a statement on Sunday, Hezbollah extended its congratulations to Iran’s leadership and nation on the unique and unprecedented attack targeting the Zionist entity and commended the brave and wise decision to respond decisively to the Israeli aggression on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

“The Islamic Republic exercised its natural and legal right despite threats, intimidation, and pressures and fulfilled its truthful promise with unparalleled courage, great wisdom, and a high appreciation of the situation at the entire regional level, and even at the global level as well,” the statement said.

The Lebanese resistance movement underlined that the operation precisely achieved its specified military targets despite the participation of the United States, its international allies and regional tools in repelling the sudden attack.

“The political and strategic objectives of this significant development will gradually become apparent over time and will lay the groundwork for a new phase regarding the entire Palestinian cause and the historical struggle with this enemy on the path to the inevitable victory for our Arab and Islamic nation and the resisting and oppressed Palestinian people,” Hezbollah added.

Iran hit a large intelligence base in the occupied lands and Israel’s Nevatim Airbase, from where an F-35 jet took off to target Iran’s consulate in the Syrian capital.

The Israeli attack on Iran’s diplomatic facilities resulted in the martyrdom of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force, his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.

The terrorist attack drew categorical condemnation from senior Iranian political and military leaders, who vowed “definitive revenge.”

During a speech in Tehran on Wednesday after leading the Eid al-Fitr prayers, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the Israeli regime “must be punished and will be punished” for the deadly strike on the Iranian diplomatic premises.

The international community also condemned the Israeli aggression on the Iranian consulate in Damascus’s Mezzeh district.

Islamic Jihad praises Iranian retaliation

Also on Sunday, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement commended Iran’s reprisal and the targeting of military sites inside the occupied territories.

“We consider this response to be the natural reaction to the existence of the occupying entity, and it becomes increasingly necessary in light of the crimes, violations, and assassinations that the entity continues to commit in flagrant violation of all humanitarian and legal values and standards,” the Islamic Jihad said.

“We also condemn all the denying voices that have emerged in defense of the occupying entity, especially the countries that have made themselves a firewall to defend the entity, and portray it as the victim, in a blatant distortion of all facts and realities,” the movement added.

Earlier in the day, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas also hailed Iran’s unprecedented retaliatory operation as a “natural right and a deserved response.”

Iran, Israeli regime to speak at urgent UNSC meeting Sunday

Iran and Israel will address the emergency UN Security Council meeting on Sunday, a source at the council told Sputnik.

The meeting comes amid Iran’s missile and drone attack on the Israeli regime in the occupied Palestinian lands, which saw several allies assist the Tel Aviv regime in downing some projectiles fired thousands of kilometers away from Iran.

he IRGC targeted Israel late on Saturday with a barrage of drones and missiles in response to the regime’s deadly assault on the consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus on April 1.

The retaliatory strikes have inflicted a yet-to-be-specified extent of damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories.

Iran's strikes legitimate right to self-defense: Syrian FM

According to Syrian official news agency-SANA, during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Mekdad said that the response of the Islamic Republic of Iran was the appropriate one to the Zionist entity, and it is a legitimate right to self-defense against this racist Zionist entity, which does not respect international law and will, nor the Charter of the United Nations.

Mekdad denounced the negligent Western positions in the face of the massacres and inhuman actions of the Israeli entity.

Amir-Abdollahian, in turn, considered that Syria and Iran are in the same trench of supporting the just cause of the Palestinian people who resist against the Zionist entity.

He added that Iran’s response was thoughtful and precise, and stressed that his country would not hesitate to again exercise its right to self-defense against any new Israeli aggression.

Iran's strikes on Israel changed region’s equations

Yasser Al-Houri made the remarks on Sunday after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched extensive missile and drone strikes against the occupied territories in response to Israel’s deadly attack on the Iranian diplomatic premises in Syria early this month, Press Tv reported.

“Iran punished Israel in front of the nations of the world, and this operation is part of changing regional equations. And if Tel Aviv continues its foolishness, this operation will be a prelude to a wider conflict,” he said.

Houri went on to say that the retaliatory strikes proved that the Israeli regime is “fake” and it will be destroyed without the support of the United States.

“The Zionist regime was created by the US, and if Washington and some Western and Arab countries that are behind its continued existence did not support it, there would be no name left of it now,” he said.

The Yemeni official further noted that Iran’s response to Israeli crime was “calculated and strong”, adding that it challenged the occupying regime, the US, Western countries, as well as all the enemies of the resistance.

He also described targeting and punishing Israel as “a real unique victory and an important success” for Iran and a “complete defeat” for the Israeli regime.

The IRGC targeted Israel late on Saturday with a barrage of drones and missiles in response to the regime’s deadly assault on the consular section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus on April 1.
