Mumbai Indians stunned everyone with their big seven-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their previous IPL 2024 match. Beginning their new era under captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the five-time champions had a shaky start to their IPL 2024 campaign as they lost three consecutive matches. However, they got back on track with two back-to-back wins against Delhi Capitals and RCB. MI will now be squaring off against their old rivals Chennai Super Kings in their next match on Sunday in Mumbai.

Ahead of the mouth-watering clash, a heartfelt moment was witnessed outside the Wankhede stadium. Hundreds of fans gathered and surrounded CSK’s team bus, in hope of getting a glimpse of the star players, who were entering the stadium for their practice session.

The fans were seen running and excitedly jumping while welcoming the visitors to their ground. This brilliant gesture by the Mumbai crowd totally showed the crazy fandom of MS Dhoni and CSK, even in an away match.

Talking about MI’s match against RCB, Suryakumar Yadav (52) and Ishan Kishan (69) provided the fireworks with the bat after Jasprit Bumrah’s magical five-wicket haul as Mumbai Indians pummelled Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets.

“I have never seen someone dominating like the way Suryakumar does. Unbelievable. Where do you bowl to him? I am so glad I am not playing cricket now. At this age, where do you bowl to this guy?

“He has got an answer for every ball you bowl to him, whether it’s wide yorker, bouncer. He can play sweep, pull, upper cut and I don’t what else he can play. He is a different kind of a player,” Former India spinner Harbhajan said on Star Sports.

On the other hand, CSK also defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous match by seven wickets.

Kejriwal not allowed to meet wife face-to-face, alleges AAP MP Sanjay Singh

New Delhi: Terming it an act of humiliation and discouragement, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh during a Press conference on Saturday said that when Delhi’s jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, applied to meet him in the jail, she was told that she cannot meet him face-to-face but through a window.

The Rajya Sabha MP further said: “Why such inhuman behaviour? This inhuman act has been done just to humiliate and discourage the CM. I am saying with full responsibility that even the dreaded criminals are allowed to meet in the barrack, but a three-time CM of Delhi is allowed to meet his wife through a window having a glass in between.”

Further criticising the instance wherein Sanjay Singh and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann were issued a token to meet Kejriwal in jail, he contested how the meeting was cancelled at the last moment, saying they (Singh and Mann) could not be allowed to meet the CM at such short notice.

He talked about how unaware the BJP government was about the CM of Punjab. “It is still believable that they don’t know me (Sanjay Singh), but how is it possible that the BJP does not know they are issuing a token to the CM of Punjab?” Sanjay Singh said.

Questioning the Tihar Jail authorities, and the BJP government, Sanjay Singh said: “Give me one example where, since the establishment of Tihar Jail, two Chief Ministers were allowed to meet in a manner where one stays behind the bar and another outside, and not face-to-face.”

Government warns against pulses forward trading; Increases imports from Myanmar

New Delhi: As part of its stepped-up vigil to bring down prices of pulses, the Government has warned traders that anyone found indulging in forward trade of pulses would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act.

The message has been clearly conveyed to all traders during a series of interactions held by Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Nidhi Khare with representatives of the pulses industry in the run-up to the operationalisation of online stock monitoring from April 15, 2024, according to an official statement issued on Saturday.

At the same time, the Government is also arranging for more imports of pulses from Myanmar to bring down prices in the domestic market through increased availability.

The government has been taking various steps to control food inflation which is reflected in the CPI inflation coming down to a 9-month low of 4.85 per cent in March. However, while the rise in the prices of pulses has slowed, it is still in double-digit figures at 17.7 per cent.

Department of Consumer Affairs has obtained feedback from the industry and inputs from market intelligence relating to pulses and the stock position with various market players have been collated for further verification.

Nidhi Khare also discussed with the Indian Mission in Yangon on issues relating to pulses imports from Myanmar such as import prices in the wake of revised exchange rates and stocks held by importers in Myanmar. The Indian Mission apprised that the Rupee Kyat Settlement Mechanism has been operationalised from January 25, 2024, to simplify trade transactions and to make them more efficient.

The Central Bank of Myanmar released guidelines for payment procedures under the Special Rupee Vostro Account (SRVA) on January 26, 2024. The new mechanism will apply for both sea and border trade and for trade in goods as well as services. Adoption of the mechanism by traders will reduce costs associated with currency conversions and eliminate complexities related to exchange rates by eliminating the need for multiple currency conversations.

Dissemination about the operationalisation of this mechanism among trading communities, especially importers of pulses, is being separately done wherein they are being requested to utilise the Rupee/Kyat direct payment system using SRVA through the Punjab National Bank, the statement said.

The importers and other industry players like millers, stockists, retailers etc have been asked to honestly declare their stock of pulses, including imported Yellow Peas, on a weekly basis on the portal https://fcainfoweb.nic.in/psp/ from April 15.

The States and UTs have also been asked to enforce weekly stock disclosure by all stockholding entities and verify the stocks declared by them. Stocks in warehouses located in major ports and in pulses industry hubs should be verified from time to time and strict action should be taken on stockholding entities found to be reporting false information on the stock disclosure portal.

Remove Bournvita from category of ‘health drinks’: Govt tells e-commerce firms

New Delhi:  The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an advisory to the e-commerce companies, directing them to remove all drinks and beverages including Bournvita from the category of ‘health drinks’, on their portal and platforms.

“National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), a statutory body constituted under Section (3) of the Commission of Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005 after its inquiry under Section 14 of CRPC Act 2005 concluded that there is no ‘health drink’ defined under FSS Act 2006, rules and regulations submitted by FSSAI and Mondelez India Food Pvt Ltd,” the ministry said in a notification, dated April 10.

The advisory comes on the back of an investigation by the NCPCR that found the Bournvita contains sugar levels, much above the acceptable limits.

Earlier, the NCPCR had called upon the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to initiate action against the companies that failed to meet safety standards and guidelines and were projecting power supplements as ‘health drinks’.

Notably, as per the regulatory body, ‘health drink’ has not been defined in the country’s food laws and to project something under the same violates the rules. The FSSAI, earlier this month, also instructed e-commerce portals against labelling diary-based or malt-based beverages as ‘health drinks’.

The controversy over the ‘unhealthy’ nature of Bournvita first arose after a YouTuber in his video slammed the powder supplement and informed that it contained excessive sugar, cocoa solids and harmful colourants that could lead to serious health hazards in children, including cancer.

The boy, Mayank Kol, has stopped responding after being stuck in the narrow space since Friday evening. However, all efforts to save him are on and a horizontal tunnel is being dug in a bid to extricate him. Giving an update on the rescue operations, Rewa District Collector, Pratibha Pall, who was present at the spot, said that SDRF and NDRF teams are relentlessly working to save the child. “A camera was lowered to monitor the boy’s situation. BJP is attacking Constitution, we want to save it: Rahul Gandhi

BJP is attacking Constitution, we want to save it: Rahul Gandhi

Jagdalpur: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are a fight between an ideology which seeks to protect the Constitution and democracy, and another which is out to destroy them.

Speaking at a campaign rally at Bastar village Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, he also accused the BJP and RSS of attacking the religion, ideology and history of the tribal communities in the country, and reiterated the promise of conducting a caste census.

President Droupadi Murmu was not allowed to attend the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya as she is a tribal woman, and this reflected the saffron party’s “mentality,” Gandhi alleged.
The rally was held in support of Kawasi Lakhma, Congress candidate from the Scheduled Tribes-reserved Bastar Lok Sabha seat.

“The election is coming and there is a fight between two ideologies. On one side there are Congress and INDIA alliance which is there to save democracy and the Constitution, and on the other side there are Narendra Modi, Adani, RSS, who have been attacking the Constitution and democracy. They are trying to destroy the Constitution,” Gandhi said.

Under Prime Minister Modi’s government, only 22 businessmen have accumulated wealth equal to that of 70 crore Indians, he said.

“Modi keeps supporting these 22-25 people 24 hours a day. Unemployment is increasing. Go to any state and ask what are the biggest issues, everyone will tell you it is unemployment, inflation and ‘bhagidari’ (lack of participation in development), but the media never shows it. They show Modi sometimes flying in aircraft, sometimes going under the sea, and sometimes worshiping in a temple,” the Congress leader said.

He also accused PM Modi of “trying to replace the word ‘adivasi’ (indigenous people) which is used to describe tribals. “We call you `adivasi, but they use the term ‘vanvasi’. There is a huge difference….The word ‘adivasi’ has a deep meaning. The word expresses your rights to `jal, jungle, zameen’ (water, forest, land), while `vanvasi’ means those who live in the jungle,” he said.

Those who use the term `adivasi’ respect the tribals’ religion, language, way of life and history, while those who prefer the term `vanvasi’ do not think that tribals have any rights over India, Gandhi further claimed.

Congress-led governments in the past brought in Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA), MNREGA, and worked to protest rights of the tribals, while the “BJP and RSS attack your religion, ideology, language and history,” he alleged.

“Forest area is shrinking in the country. BJP has been giving forest land to billionaires like Adani. A day will come when there will be no forests left in India, then BJP and RSS will tell you that you are a forest-dweller, and if there is no forest, you do not belong to anywhere. This is their mentality,” he said.

When the Ram temple was inaugurated in Ayodhya in January this year, President Murmu was told that she could not attend it, Gandhi alleged.

“They stopped her because she is a tribal. Modi gave this message to the country, that tribals will not be allowed to attend the inauguration of Ram temple. This is their mentality,” he added.
Speaking about Congress’ election promises, Gandhi said a caste census will be conducted as soon as the opposition alliance comes to power.

“We will undertake recruitment to 30 lakh vacant government posts, start apprenticeships for the youth if voted to power. Youth will be given the right to apprenticeship before getting a job. All the educated youth of India will get one year’s apprenticeship in government or private companies, and one lakh annual stipend. Based on performance, they will get a permanent job,” he said.
He also promised to abolish contractual recruitment in government companies, waive crop loans, and ensure good price for farm produce.

Women from poor sections of society will get Rs 8,500 per month under the Mahalakshmi Yojana and the honorarium of women working at Anganwadi schools will be doubled, the Congress leader assured.

Bengaluru cafe bomber suspect, mastermind sent to 10-day NIA custody

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Special NIA Court judge has sent suspected bomber Mussavir Hussain Shazib and mastermind Abdul Matheen Taha, to 10-day National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody in connection with the Bengaluru cafe bomb blast case.

The NIA on Saturday produced the arrested bomber Mussavir Hussain Shazib and his accomplice Abdul Matheen Taha before the magistrate court judge at his residence in Koramangala locality of Bengaluru. Senior counsel Prasanna Kumar argued for the NIA.

The NIA had taken the suspected terrorists to an undisclosed location for the investigation.

Sources explained that the arrest of the suspected terrorists was a big breakthrough for the investigative agencies. The suspected terrorists had connections with international terror outfits and prepared bombs within the country and carried out explosions with the help of local youth.

The NIA had thwarted the bigger plans of global terror outfit ISIS and others to raise a network of terrorists in India who can carry out disruptive activities without persons from foreign countries entering India and helping them out, sources stated.

The agencies were able to track down Mussavir, Taha and the gang operating from the prison as per the instructions of terror outfits based abroad at the initial stages before they could get expertise in carrying out powerful strikes.

Mastermind Taha, an engineering graduate, developed low-intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bombs and intended to cause maximum fatalities. On March 1, the low-intensity IED bomb, planted in the bag, caused maximum damage to the roof and structure of the Rameshwaram cafe in Bengaluru. No casualty was reported in the incident.

NIA sources explained that they will go deeper into the money transactions of the suspected terrorists and their local networks.

After over a month-long chase, the NIA on Friday arrested bomber Mussavir Hussain Shazib and his accomplice Abdul Matheen Taha from a hideout in Kolkata. Sources explain that the suspected terrorists were planning to escape to Bangladesh from West Bengal.
