"You Can Buy All Biggest Individuals But…": England Great Rips Apart RCB

IPL 2024 is not going up to the expectations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru as Faf du Plessis and co are placed at the bottom of the points table. In six games in the season so far, RCB have lost five and left the fans utterly disappointed. Despite having big names like Faf, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and others, RCB are having a horrendous campaign. Recently, former England captain Michael Vaughan shared his views regarding trophyless run in the cash-rich league and the abysmal performance in the ongoing season.

Vaughan, who recently appeared on ‘The Ranveer Show’ on YouTube, stated that the entire team should act like a single unit for RCB and not depend on individuals for a big innings.

“What I like about the fact the RCB have never won is it proves to me that team sport is not just about individuals. You can go and buy all the biggest individual names and put them into a team but it doesn’t mean you’re going to win and it’s been proven at the RCB,” said Vaughan.

They’ve signed some incredible players – AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Faf – unbelievable players. But it tells you unless you get the whole team operating and every single player knowing the roles and identifying different roles and it might be that you have to rejig your team slightly just to allow someone else to flourish in a different position I don’t see the RCB s doing that,” he added.

Vaughan further stated that RCB cannot win the IPL, unless they identify every player’s role perfectly.

“I don’t see them trying anything different. I just see them thinking that – it’s probably wrong but again it’s perception – they just seem to think because they’ve got great players in this team, the management thinks well we’re going to win. It proves to me that even though you’ve got great players unless you get the team ethic, culture and you absolutely identify everyone’s roles perfectly, you’re not going to win trophies,” said Vaughan.

After losing against Mumbai Indians by seven wickets, RCB will be squaring off against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.

US Says Destroyed 80 Drones, 6 Missiles Launched From Iran, Yemen

Iran launched an attack late on Saturday on Israeli territory with drones and missiles.

Cairo:

U.S. forces, supported by U.S. European Command destroyers, on Saturday and Sunday destroyed more than 80 one-way attack drones and at least six ballistic missiles aimed at Israel from Iran and Yemen, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Monday.

This includes a ballistic missile on its launcher vehicle and seven UAVs destroyed on the ground prior to their launch in areas controlled by Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, CENTCOM said in a post on X.

Iran launched an attack late on Saturday on Israeli territory with drones and missiles in retaliation for a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria on April 1 that killed top Revolutionary Guards commanders.

The attack by more than 300 missiles and drones, mostly launched from inside Iran, caused only modest damage as most were shot down by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system and with help from the United States, Britain, France and Jordan.

“CENTCOM remains postured to support Israel’s defense against these dangerous actions by Iran. We will continue to work with all our regional partners to increase regional security,” the U.S. military said.

Iran-Israel LIVE: “The Security Council failed in its duty to maintain peace and security.”

Iran-Israel Conflict LIVE Updates: Israel’s UN envoy on Sunday urged the Security Council to impose “all possible sanctions” against Iran after the Islamic republic’s unprecedented attack against Israel.

“Today the council must take action (and) condemn Iran for their terror,” Ambassador Gilad Erdan told the body, calling on countries to “impose all possible sanctions on Iran before it’s too late.”

Iran’s United Nations envoy told the Security Council Sunday that the Islamic republic was exercising its “inherent right to self-defense” in its unprecedented attack on Israel.

“The Security Council… failed in its duty to maintain international peace and security” after Israel’s apparent strike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier this month, Amir Saeid Iravani said.

Therefore, Tehran “had no choice” but to respond, he said, adding that his country does “not seek escalation or war,” but will respond to any “threat or aggression.”

Biden Says US Helped Israel Down Nearly All Iran Attacks

President Joe Biden said US forces helped Israel shoot down nearly all the drones and missiles fired by Iran Saturday, but appeared to guide the key US ally away from retaliating against Tehran by saying Israel had now shown its strength.

Biden added that he was convening fellow G7 leaders on Sunday to coordinate a diplomatic response against Tehran, in another sign that he is trying to avoid any further military escalation that could ignite a wider Middle East conflict.

The US president said he had called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reaffirm Washington’s “ironclad” support for Israel, after recent tense relations over Israel’s war in Gaza.

“I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks — sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel,” he said.

Saudi, Qatar Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Escalations With Iran Counterpart

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian late on Sunday, during which they discussed developments in the region after Iran launched drones and missiles on Israel, Saudi state news agency reported.

“During the call, repercussions from developments in the situation in the region and the increasing escalation against the backdrop of the crisis in Gaza Strip were discussed,” a statement from Saudi’s foreign ministry said.

Qatar’s foreign minister also held a call with Amirabdollahian on Sunday, expressing deep concern over developments in the region and reiterating their commitment to support efforts at achieving stability on all levels, Qatari state media reported.

UN Chief Calls For Maximum Restraint After Iran’s Attack On Israel

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday issued a reminder that acts of reprisal involving the use of force are barred under international law after Iran’s attack on Israel, while the U.S. warned the Security Council it would work to hold Tehran accountable at the U.N.

Guterres, speaking to a meeting of the U.N. Security Council, told member states that the U.N. charter bars the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state as he condemned Iran’s attack on Israel and warned against further escalation.

Iran launched a swarm of explosive drones and fired missiles on Saturday in its first-ever direct attack on Israeli territory, risking a major escalation.

Israel’s Defence Minister Speaks To US Counterpart

Israel’s Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant held a call with his American counterpart, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Sunday.

Minister Gallant’s office said he briefed the Secretary on the preliminary conclusions of the Israel Defense Forces’ defensive operations in cooperation with the United States and additional partners, in thwarting the missile attack conducted by Iran overnight.

This included the launch of hundreds of types of munitions by Iran, including 100 ballistic missiles – each one carrying hundreds of kilograms of explosives.

Global Oil Prices Likely To Rise Amid Iran-Israel Conflict

Global Oil Prices Likely To Rise Amid Iran-Israel Conflict

“It is only reasonable to expect stronger prices when trading resumes.”

London:

Oil prices, which hit a six-month high on Friday, are expected to rise on Monday after Iran’s attack on Israel over the weekend, analysts said, but further gains may depend on how Israel chooses to respond.

Iran launched explosive drones and missiles at Israel late on Saturday in retaliation for a suspected Israeli attack on its consulate in Syria on April 1, a first direct attack on Israeli territory that has stoked fears of a wider regional conflict.

Concern that Iran would respond to the strike on its embassy compound in Damascus supported oil last week and helped send global benchmark Brent crude on Friday to $92.18 a barrel, the highest since October.

Brent settled that day up 71 cents at $90.45, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 64 cents to $85.66. Trading is closed on Sunday.

“It is only reasonable to expect stronger prices when trading resumes,” said Tamas Varga of oil broker PVM. “Having said that, there has been no impact on production so far and Iran has said that ‘the matter can be deemed concluded’.

“However fierce and painful the initial market reaction will be, the rally could prove to be short-lived unless supply from the region is materially disrupted.”

Leaders of the Group of Seven major economies condemned Iran’s attack and reaffirmed the G7’s commitment to Israel’s security during a meeting on Sunday regarding the development, the White House said in a post on X.

The G7 leaders discussed sanctions against Iran, a senior U.S. administration official said.

“There will probably be a knee-jerk jump in oil and potentially natural gas prices when markets open in Asian trading hours, although crude was already pricing in a fair amount of geopolitical risk in anticipation of an Iranian strike,” said Amrita Sen, co-founder of consultancy Energy Aspects.

“If the crisis does not escalate to a point that creates supply disruptions, then there will be downside risk over time, but only once it becomes clear Israel has chosen a measured response,” she said.

IRAN OIL EXPORTS IN VIEW

UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said oil might spike at the opening and how long any gains last would depend on Israel’s response. Whether or not the G7 decides to target Iranian crude oil exports is also a factor, he added.

Iran has steeply raised oil exports – its main source of revenue – under the Joe Biden administration. Exports were severely reduced under Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump, who faces Biden in a presidential election rematch in November.

The Biden administration has argued it is not encouraging Iran to raise exports and is enforcing sanctions.

Lower Iranian exports would lead to a further rise in oil prices and the cost of gasoline in the United States, a politically sensitive subject ahead of the elections.

Another factor to watch will be any impact on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the volume of the world’s total oil consumption passes daily.

The commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard’s navy said on Tuesday Tehran could close the strait if deemed necessary, and earlier on Saturday Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency reported a Guards helicopter had boarded and taken into Iranian waters a vessel, the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries.

“Crude prices already included a risk premium, and the extent to which it will widen further almost exclusively depends on developments near Iran around the Strait of Hormuz,” said Ole Hansen at Saxo Bank.

In comments that he said might be going against the stream, Viktor Katona, lead crude analyst at Kpler, said he thought the Iranian attack was slightly bearish for crude.

“The market expected a pathway to World War III but Iran saying it considers its retaliation to be over would lower the risk of a bigger regional conflagration,” he said.

Israel Says US, Allies Came Together For First Time To Counter Iran

Israel Says US, Allies Came Together For First Time To Counter Iran

“Together we thwarted Iran’s attack… This was the first time that such a coalition worked together.”

Jerusalem:

Israel’s army said Sunday Israel, the United States, Britain, France and other allies had come together as a “coalition” for the first time to counter Iran’s unprecedented attack.

Iran launched a wave of missiles and attack drones against Israel overnight Saturday to Sunday in the first ever direct attack on its arch foe.

“Together we thwarted Iran’s attack… This was the first time that such a coalition worked together against the threat of Iran and its proxies in the Middle East,” said military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari in a televised statement.

“Iran launched over 350 threats, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, rockets and suicide drones towards Israel and also other countries in the region could have got that threat on the way.”

Tehran’s attack came in retaliation for a deadly air strike widely blamed on Israel that destroyed its consular building in Syria’s capital early this month.

In a separate statement, Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz said he had told his British and French counterparts that “Iran must pay a price”.

“I told them — it’s your time to weaken the Iranian regime, to proscribe the IRGC (Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps) as a terrorist organisation, and to impose crippling sanctions on the Iranian missile project.”

IPL 2024: Pathirana Overshadows Rohit's Century As CSK Beat MI By 20 Runs

Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana came up with his best IPL figures, grabbing four wickets as Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs, despite a heroic unbeaten century by Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Pathirana took the wickets of Ishan Kishan (23), Surya Kumar Yadav (0), Tilak Varma (31) and Romario Shepherd (1) to return figures of 4 for 28 as MI lost the steam in the chase of an imposing 206/4, managing to score 186 for six.

Rohit batted from start to finish for his unbeaten 105 off 63 deliveries — his second IPL century — but he could not find a partner who could stay with him long enough and build a big partnership. Earlier, CSK top-order batter Shivam Dube and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad struck stroke-filled half-centuries as the five-time champions scored 206/4.

Dube slammed an unbeaten 66 off 38 deliveries, while Gaikwad smashed a 40-ball 69, including five maximums, as the duo put up a 90-run stand after CSK had lost openers Ajinkya Rahul (5) and Rachin Ravindra (21) cheaply.
