Remote villages in Dahegaon face drinking water crisis

Kumram Bhim Asifabad: Residents of Motlaguda village in Dahegaon mandal are facing a severe drinking water crisis. They are left with no option but to transport water from a stream to quench their thirst.

A video clip showing the hardships of the villagers went viral on social media platforms.

In the video clip purportedly shot by a villager, people of the village are seen carrying water on bullock carts from a stream to the village facing sweltering heat wave conditions.

The residents said they were relying on the stream as they were not getting drinking water through the Mission Bhagiratha scheme.

Ashok, a resident of the village said the villagers were drawing water from the stream as the supply of drinking water was getting affected at once a week.

He stated that they were forced to depend on the stream when the supply was hit four days ago last week and again till Tuesday afternoon.

The villagers regretted that the disruption in supply of water was a routine affair. Mission Bhagiratha (Grid) Dahegaon mandal assistant engineer Gopichand said the supply was hit due to the shut down of power at a water treatment plant at Asifabad and a two-day long strike by watermen for delay in payment of salaries on Thursday and Friday last week.

The supply of the water would be restored by Tuesday evening. Efforts were being made to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to all villages in Dahegaon, he said.

Karimnagar: Rythu Vedikas, which were developed for the benefit of farmers, are now in trouble due to lack of money for maintenance.

Agricultural officials are facing difficulties to maintain the Rythu Vedikas since maintenance charges have not been released during the last 19 months.

They have to spend money from their pockets. In order to provide a platform for the farming community to share their ideas about new techniques in farming and overcome insects’ attacks on the crop, the previous BRS government constructed a Rythu Vedika for every 5,000 acres and deployed agriculture extension officers (AEOs) as in-charges.

Initially, per month, an amount of Rs 3,000 was given to each vedika for the purpose of maintenance such as to clear electricity bills, sanitation, purchase stationary, conduct training to farmers, drinking water, repairs and others.

Since the amount did not completely fulfilled the needs of the vedikas, agriculture department officials sent proposals to the government for the enhancement of the amount.

Based on the department’s request, the previous government hiked the amount to Rs.9,000 and paid Rs.45,000 to each vedika from April to August 2022.

However, the payments stopped after that for reasons best known to officials, with an amount of Rs 1.71 lakh now pending to each vedika. A total of Rs 4.41 crore has to be paid to 258 rythu vedikas functioning in the erstwhile Karimnagar district.

The highest of Rs 1.29 crore has to be paid to 76 vedikas in Karimnagar followed by Jagtial at Rs 1.21 crore (71), Rajanna-Sircilla at Rs 97.47 crore (57) and Peddapalli at Rs 92.34 crore (54).

Recently, the State government launched video-conference systems in Rythu Vedikas in order for interactions with farmers by agricultural scientists and higher officials.

In addition to the existing infrastructure including chairs, tables and other materials, a big size TV, setup box, and inverters were arranged by spending Rs 3.70 crore for the purpose of the video conferences.

Speaking to Telangana Today, District Agriculture Officer (in-charge), B Srinivas said the maintenance of Rythu Vedikas had become a major issue since the funds were not given regularly.

In response to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s accusations that the BJP was attempting to destabilize his government, BJP spokesperson NV Subhash boldly challenged the Chief Minister to publicly disclose the identities of any leaders allegedly involved in such a conspiracy.

Hyderabad: Refuting the allegations of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy that BJP was trying to pull down his government, BJP spokesperson NV Subhash dared the Chief Minister to reveal the names of leaders who were conspiring against him.

Subhash accused the Chief Minister of making baseless allegations against the BJP and asked him to furnish evidence in support of his claims. “We don’t need to pull down the government. In the Congress party already there are several people who are hatching conspiracy against Revanth Reddy to grab power,”he said.

Instead of making false allegations against BJP, the Chief Minister should take action against his own party leaders who were trying to remove him from the post, he suggested. “If you have courage, take disciplinary action against leaders working against you,”he said.

Adilabad: Irrigation projects have almost dried up in erstwhile Adilabad district, worrying the public, particularly farmers.

Water levels in various projects have dipped to alarming levels. As per information provided by officials, the water level in the Sathnala medium irrigation project in Jainath mandal of Adilabad district was 280.10 metres as against the storage capacity of 286.50 metres.

Mathadiwagu project in Thamsi mandal has a water level of 271.65 metres compared to the storage capacity of 277.50 metres. The two projects account for 24,000 acres and 8,500 acres of ayacut respectively.

Likewise, the water level of the Kaddam Narayana Reddy project in Nirmal district plummeted to 206 metres out of the storage capacity of 213.36 metres. Water level of the Swarna project in Sarangapur reached 358 metres as against 360 metres.

The water level of Gaddennavagu was gauged to be 355 metres when compared to the capacity of 260 metres.

Meanwhile, the water level of Kumram Bhim project of Kumram Bhim Asifabad district has declined to 236 metres as against the storage capacity of 243 metres. The water level of Vattivagu, NTR, PP Rao and Jagannathpur projects too have gone down.

Water level of Gollavagu, Nelwai and Ralivagu projects in Mancherial district too have dropped drastically.

The dip in the projects has become a cause for concern to farmers who are growing paddy, maize and other crops expecting the water would be supplied to irrigate the crops.
“We are forced to depend on bore wells and other sources of irrigation if water is not provided to crops being raised in the Yasangi season,” Bhaskar Reddy, a farmer from Kaddam mandal, told ‘Telangana Today.’

Above all, municipalities that are drawing bulk water from some of these projects are likely to face drinking water crisis if the water level goes down further. For instance, Bellampalli, Asifabad and Kaghaznagar municipalities depend on the water of Kumram Bhim project.

Similarly, the six municipalities of Mancherial, Mandamarri, Naspur, Kyathanpalli, Luxettipet and Chennur rely on the water of Sripada Sagar Yellampalli at Gudipet village in Hajipur mandal.

Khammam engineer makes golf cart that runs on multiple energy sources

Khammam: Taking forward his innovative design and manufacturing of vehicles that run on non-fossil fuels, a Khammam-based engineer has built a golf cart that could be operated with multiple energy sources.

A golf cart is a small motorised vehicle designed basically to carry golfers and their golf clubs around a golf course. Its utility is also found in transporting luggage and old aged and women passengers besides persons with disability in railway stations and airports as well in sports stadiums.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Garlapati Rakesh, who runs RDENO Enterprises EV Mobility in Khammam, informed that the golf cart is fitted with 4.8 kilowatt capacity batteries, which could be powered by solar and wind energy as well as electricity.

Solar power is primarily used for horn, music player, charging mobile phone and indicators while wind power is used to operate the motors that put the vehicle into motion. The vehicle is a six-seater. It took one month’s time and Rs 2 lakh to manufacture the golf cart.

Once the batteries are charged with electric power the vehicle runs with that power and when it is moving a miniature wind turbine fitted on the vehicle generates power to charge the batteries, he explained. It costs just Rs 30 to 40 for a single charge and it can be fully charged within three to four hours. With solar and wind energy being available free of cost the vehicle’s overall maintenance cost is minimal, Rakesh, a mechanical engineer, noted.

It may be noted that the engineer has made an electric car that gives 300 km range and a hybrid electric car with perpetual power in the past. Last November he was selected for TSIC’s Intinta Innovator Award and also entered into Miracles World Records book for his innovation.
