CM deceived farmers, says Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: BJP State president G Kishan Reddy said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy should stop criticising BJP and concentrate on implementation of six guarantees promised by his party leadership.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Kishan Reddy said the Congress promised to implement all the six guarantees in 100 days, but it failed to do so. “CM has no moral right to criticise BJP’s manifesto. He should try to fulfil promises made by his party first and then comment on other parties,”he said.

Accusing Revanth Reddy of deceiving farmers, he said the Chief Minister promised to waive all the farm loans after coming to power, but so far nothing had been done in that direction. “CM provoked farmers to take loans from banks. Now the situation is such that neither the old loans have been cleared by the government nor the banks are giving new loans to the farmers. Farmers are under financial stress due to failure of the CM to waive farm loans,”he alleged.

Kishan Reddy said he would be holding a protest at the BJP party office on Monday demanding the State government to implement all the promises made to the farmers.

BRS criticises BJP manifesto for lack of substance

Hyderabad: Criticising the BJP manifesto for the 2024 parliamentary elections, the BRS slammed it for being filled with mere sloganeering and lacking concrete promises.

BRS senior leader and former Minister T Harish Rao highlighted ten key areas where the BJP’s manifesto fell short of addressing the needs of the people.

In a statement on Sunday, Harish Rao stated that despite widespread demands for farmer loan waivers, the BJP manifesto remains silent on this crucial issue.

The manifesto was a disappointment for many States which were seeking national project status for construction of major irrigation projects with the Central funds in their respective States, he said.

“The manifesto overlooks demands for income tax exemptions for the middle class. The BJP fails to promise tax exemptions for workers and artisans, ignoring their contributions,” he said, pointing out that despite previous promises to create two crore jobs per year over last 10 years, the BJP had failed to implement it.

The party now offers no clarity on job creation, leaving the youth disappointed, he said.

The former Minister stated that the BJP manifesto also does not mention increasing reservations for backward classes, disregarding resolutions passed by several State Legislative Assemblies and Councils.

The demands for SCs and STs classification remain unaddressed, while no concrete assurance was given to increase the 50 per cent reservation limit for effective implementation of reservations on population basis.

Harish Rao said major cities like Hyderabad received no assurance for special grants, hindering their growth.

He reminded that six major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru are economic growth engines for the country and need adequate financial support from the Centre to propel their growth to a higher level.

He also criticised the BJP for finding fault with the States offering welfare programmes to the marginalised sections terming them as ‘freebies’, but was now offering free ration rice, free housing and free healthcare among others in its manifesto.

Stage set for emergency pumping from Nagarajuna Sagar

Hyderabad: With the water levels touching 509 feet, one feet below the Minimum Draw Down Level in the Nagarjuna Sagar Project, moves are afoot for commencing emergency pumping from the project on Monday.

The pumping operations are being taken up from the critical threshold level to meet the drinking water needs of Hyderabad.

The existing approach channel would not support drawls from the project with the water level plummeting below the MDDL of 510 ft.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has made arrangements well in advance for emergency pumping of water from the project. Officials said the process of installation of the pumps was in progress.

Two pumps would be put into operation for the purpose immediately and two more would be installed subsequently to augment the drawls. About 800 cusecs were of water was being given from the project for supporting the water supply in Hyderabad.

The government had planned to extract water from the project reaching up to the depth of 500 ft this time.

The River Management Board, which reviewed the situation, at its recent meeting allotted 8.5 tmc of water to the State to meet the drinking water needs during the upcoming summer.

The state would require some 1.6 tmc of water per month to support the supply system in Hyderabad and its adjoining pockets.

The situation is expected to worsen further by May 5 in the absence of any emergency releases from upstream sources. Water levels in the Srisailam project also had fallen below the MDDL of 834 ft.

The officials of the State government are in touch with Karnataka seeking releases from Narayanpur dam. Arrangements were being made for drawing water from the Singur project also.

Emergency pumping from Yellampalli reservoir would be taken up on May 1, they added while exuding confidence the needs of the Mission Bhagiratha would also be met by all means.

He along with former Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinnaiah attended a meeting of the cadres belonging to the BRS held in Bellampalli on Sunday.

Eshwar said that scores of farmers ended life in the regime of the Congress, while the farming sector prospered in the rule of BRS. He accused the party of duping auto-rickshaw drivers and women by not fulfilling poll promises.

The former Dharmpur MLA said that people would teach a lesson to the Congress by casting their votes in support of nominees fielded by BRS.

He stated that BRS supremo created 1,100 residential schools apart from transforming the agriculture sector by introducing innovative schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bheema.

The candidate further said that the Congress cheated the electors by not keeping poll promises. He regretted that people were reeling under a severe drinking water crisis due to an inefficiency of the state government.

He criticised the government for imposing erratic outages in supply of power. He added the villages underwent unprecedented growth on many fronts in the governance of BRS.
