Hyderabad: Left-arm spinners G Aniketh Reddy (5/21) and Tanay Thyagarajan (3/37) helped Hyderabad bowl out Tripura for 134 in 44 overs on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match at Gymkhana Ground here on Sunday.
In reply, the hosts reached 121/4 in 41 overs, with opener Tanmay Agarwal unbeaten on 48 (107 balls, 2×4) at stumps. Abhirath Reddy scored 32 (56 balls, 3×4, 1×6), as the opening pair added 60 runs in 18.2 overs before Hyderabad suffered a flurry of wickets.
Hyderabad lost G Rahul Singh (5) and wicketkeeper-batter Pragnay Reddy (0) in quick succession to slip to 66/3 in 20.2 overs. Left-hander K Himateja (18) was dismissed in the final overs, with Tripura off-spinner Sandip Samir Sarkar (4/44) accounting for all four Hyderabad wickets to fall.
Earlier, Tripura’s openers Bikramkumar Das (50 off 107 balls, 4×4, 2×6) and Hrituraj Roy (33 off 70 balls, 5×4) put on 80 runs in 23.2 overs. Thyagarajan then struck three times in quick succession, including trapping G Hanuma Vihari for a second-ball duck, to reduce Tripura to 82/3.
Tripura failed to recover from those blows. Aniketh Reddy then took charge, finishing with figures of 5/21, including a five-wicket haul. Apart from Mandeep Singh, who scored 24 off 52 balls (3×4), none of the other batters who followed managed to reach double figures.
It was an impressive bowling performance by Hyderabad, led by Mohammed Siraj, which helped the hosts dominate the opening day.
With the dependable Tanmay at the crease at stumps and Hyderabad trailing by just 13 runs, the hosts will look to build a substantial first-innings lead on the second day.
