Hyderabad: Junior doctors, MBBS students and senior residents from Osmania Medical College will launch a strike protest on Monday at Osmania General Hospital (OGH), highlighting long-pending deficiencies affecting residents’ learning, clinical training, working conditions, and patient care.

Telangana Junior Doctors Association (OMC JUDA) on Sunday said the interns, undergraduate students, postgraduate residents, senior residents, and representatives from every department will participate in the strike.

The OMC JUDA also decided to suspend elective OPD services and elective OT procedures during the protest, while ensuring that emergency services and essential patient care remain uninterrupted.

“Despite repeated representations and prolonged efforts to bring our concerns to the attention of authorities, several critical issues continue to affect departmental functioning and the quality of postgraduate training. Residents have waited for meaningful improvements for a long time, and the present situation demands urgent and time-bound action,” OMC JUDA in a statement on Sunday said.

The protest is not about an individual or a single department. It is about protecting the dignity of residents, ensuring a proper learning environment, strengthening clinical training, and securing the infrastructure necessary for safe and effective patient care, JUDA members said.

We have worked for years to earn our residency positions and serve our patients. The purpose of medical education must not be reduced to completing duties without adequate learning opportunities, infrastructure, and essential departmental facilities. Our genuine concerns deserve serious consideration and concrete action, OMC JUDA said.

The junior doctors from the remaining government medical colleges in Telangana including Gandhi Medical College and Hospital are yet to decide on joining the strike protest.
