Hyderabad: A retired employee from AS Rao Nagar in Kushiguda allegedly lost nearly Rs 18 lakh in a cybercrime scam after fraudsters recorded a video call and threatened to share it on social media.
The fraudsters allegedly used the recording to blackmail the victim and extort money from him.
The scam came to light when the victim was attempting to transfer another Rs 2 lakh at a bank. The branch manager noticed the suspicious transaction and alerted the police.
Police rushed to the bank, explained the nature of the cyber fraud to the victim and intervened before further money could be transferred, protecting the remaining Rs 80 lakh in his bank account.
