Mahabubabad: Farmers in Mahabubabad district took to the streets on Thursday demanding quality electricity supply for irrigation needs.
Farmers from Teegalaveni village in Gudur mandal, as well as from Katrapalli, Arpanapalli, Jalledu thanda and Bhavanigadda thanda in Kesamudram mandal, expressed their anger over power outages that were causing their crops to wither.
Citing severe difficulties due to the lack of timely electricity supply, which prevented them from feeding water to crops they staged a dharna on a main road near the Teegalaveni substation in Gudur mandal.
Responding to the farmers’ agitation, local BRS party leaders arrived at the substation and joined the protest. They stated that the protests would continue until the power supply issues were addressed adding that power supply has become erratic.
Despite taking the matter to the attention of officials, no action had been taken. The Congress government had left farmers in trouble with unannounced power cuts. The farmers called off the protest following assurances given by the electricity department’s AEE in the presence of Gudur SI Ramesh Babu.
Former ZPTC member Ravula Srinath Reddy, TRS town president G Veeru Naik, Dhanasari PACS director Kondreddy Ravinder Reddy, Beruwada sarpanch Esam Lakshminarayana, ward member Age Ramu, Banoth Venkanna and others were took part in the protest.
