Heritage experts have proposed a series of measures for the protection, development and promotion of the nationally significant Mudumal Megalithic Site in Telangana’s Narayanpet district. The proposals include boundary demarcation, land acquisition, tourism infrastructure, awareness programmes and cultural festivals.

Hyderabad: Prof. Arjun Rao, Director, Department of Heritage, Telangana, along with Prof. Vedakumar Manikonda, Chairman, Deccan Heritage Academy Trust, called on Priyanka, District Collector, Narayanpet, and discussed measures for the comprehensive development, protection and promotion of the Mudumal Megalithic Site, a nationally significant heritage site in Narayanpet district.
During the meeting, key proposals including the fixing and demarcation of the site boundaries for effective protection of the Mudumal Megalithic Site, land acquisition for the development and protection of the site, construction of a BT approach road, orientation programmes for headmasters of schools across the district to create awareness about the historical and archaeological significance of Mudumal, training of tourist guides to promote informed heritage tourism in the district and organising two cultural festivals every year to promote the site and encourage heritage tourism, were discussed.
The District Collector responded positively to the proposals and expressed her willingness to extend necessary cooperation and support from the district administration. She assured the delegation that the administration would work towards the preservation, protection and promotion of the Mudumal Megalithic Site and its development as an important heritage tourism destination.
