Hyderabad: BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday said achieving social change through patient, peaceful and democratic struggles was Mahatma Gandhi’s central ideal. He emphasised the need to shun divisive politics and foster peace and brotherhood.
Paying tributes to Gandhi on his birth anniversary, Chandrashekhar Rao said the Mahatma’s methods of peaceful democratic struggle had inspired him during the Telangana statehood movement. Gandhi’s path of Satyagraha in the pursuit of democratic rights remained relevant to the younger generation, he said.
He said Gandhi’s life offered lessons for leaders fighting authoritarian governments for legitimate public aspirations. “Leaders should adopt a broad outlook, build unity among oppressed sections and mobilise people across social groups through peaceful movements,” he said.
Recalling his own journey in the Telangana movement, the BRS chief said Gandhi’s ideals had guided his approach despite the challenges he faced. He added that abandoning hate-filled speeches and vindictive attitudes was essential to honouring the Father of the Nation. “Establishing peace and brotherhood among people through governance is the true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.
Paying tributes to the Father of the Nation, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said Gandhi had shown the world that truth, non-violence and perseverance could become powerful forces for change. He said these ideals resonated with the spirit of the movement that led to Telangana’s formation. He also urged people to draw inspiration from Gandhi’s commitment to truth, peace and justice.
BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao also paid tribute to Gandhi, stating that his ideals of peace, non-violence and Satyagraha continued to inspire generations and remind everyone of the power of courage and compassion. He wished that Gandhi’s teachings would continue to guide everyone towards a better world.
