As many as 3,895 Anganwadi teachers and helpers have been disengaged from service in two years, while 46 await Rs.29 lakh in benefits. Officials said payments were delayed due to incorrect bank account details and promised to resolve the issues soon.

Hyderabad: As many as 3,895 Anganwadi teachers and helpers have been disengaged from service in the last two years, while 46 of them are yet to receive their service benefits, reflecting the state of affairs in Anganwadi centres.
In its manifesto ahead of the Assembly elections, the Congress had promised to increase the monthly salaries of Anganwadi teachers and workers to Rs.18,000. However, even after nearly three years, the government has not fulfilled the promise.
Last year, Anganwadi teachers and helpers staged protests at the Chief Minister’s residence in Kodangal and at the Secretariat, demanding fulfilment of their long-pending demands.
In 2017, the end-of-service benefit for Anganwadi teachers was fixed at Rs.60,000, while Anganwadi helpers and mini Anganwadi teachers were entitled to Rs.30,000. In 2023, the benefits were increased to Rs.1 lakh for Anganwadi teachers and Rs.50,000 for Anganwadi helpers and mini Anganwadi teachers.
Subsequently, the benefits were enhanced to Rs.2 lakh for Anganwadi teachers and Rs.1 lakh for Anganwadi helpers and mini Anganwadi teachers.
However, 46 teachers and helpers have been awaiting their cumulative benefits of Rs.29 lakh for the last two years.
Besides, 130 family members of deceased Anganwadi teachers and helpers applied for funeral charges of Rs.20,000 and Rs.10,000, respectively, during 2025-26. Officials said the payments were delayed due to incorrect bank account numbers and that the details were being rectified.
“All these issues will be fixed at the earliest,” officials said.
