Water was released into the Jurala right canal on Wednesday following rains in upstream areas and protests by farmers. The move came a day after Telangana Ministers and MLAs met Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar seeking irrigation and drinking water.

Jogulamba Gadwal: Following rains in the upstream areas and relentless protests by farmers over the past few days, officials at the Priyadarshini Jurala Project released water into the right canal on Wednesday.
About 2,687 cusecs of inflow was recorded at the project. Consequently, irrigation water was released into the Jurala right canal, bringing cheers to farmers in the project’s command area.
Meanwhile, Ministers and MLAs from the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district met Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Tuesday night and requested him to release water for irrigation and drinking purposes. They brought to his attention the irrigation water problems being faced by farmers in the Jurala command area.
The Ministers and MLAs said the Karnataka Chief Minister assured them that a total of 7 TMC of water would be released to the Jurala Project at a rate of 5,000 cusecs per day for 30 days.
They are expected to meet DK Shivakumar again later in the day, reports said.
