Various organisations held a protest meeting at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad on Sunday, demanding steps to protect Waqf and Jamia Nizamia properties. Speakers urged sustained public pressure, community participation and accountability, while women were asked to actively join the movement.

Hyderabad: Various organisations under the banner of Jamia Nizamia Raidurg Waqf and Waqf Bachao Tehreek organised a protest meeting at Dharna Chowk on Sunday, demanding immediate steps to protect Waqf properties and other properties endowed to Jamia Nizamia Islamic Seminary.
Speakers at the protest urged the government and community leaders to act to safeguard the properties and institutions and called for sustained public pressure on the authorities.
MBT spokesperson Amjedullah Khan called upon the gathering to continue raising its voice against what he described as injustice and urged community members to organise peaceful protests.
He asked participants to approach their respective MLAs and question them on issues concerning the community.
Aleem Khan Falaki of the Socio Reforms Society said protecting Waqf properties required sustained community participation and accountability. He urged people to remain united and ensure that properties meant for community welfare were protected from misuse and neglect.
Motivational speaker Sheeba Miraji called upon women to actively participate in the movement instead of leaving the responsibility entirely to men. She said women had a strong role to play in raising issues concerning Waqf properties and community institutions.
She said the improper use or neglect of community properties directly affected widows, poor and vulnerable women.
