Hyderabad: Police on Friday foiled an attempt by the Bharat Rashtra Vidyarthi Samithi (BRSV) to storm the Telangana Legislative Assembly while pressing for several student demands, including the withdrawal of GO No. 97 related to polytechnic colleges.

BRSV leaders and students gathered near the Assembly and tried to proceed towards the premises, following which police detained several protesters and prevented them from entering the Assembly.

BRSV leader Prashant Goud said the government should immediately release Rs 12,000 crore in pending scholarships and withdraw GO No. 97. He alleged that the government was ignoring the problems faced by students and warned of intensified protests if their demands were not addressed.

Goud threatened to lay siege to the residence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy if the government failed to withdraw GO No. 97. He said the BRSV would intensify its agitation and take up stronger forms of protest if the government continued to remain unresponsive to their demands.

Police stepped up security around the Assembly and prevented the protesters from advancing towards the premises.
