In a statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the destroyers, which carry cruise missiles and the Aegis combat system, came under attack in a punitive operation codenamed “Ya Haidar Karrar.”
The strike inflicted significant damage on both warships, the statement said.
The IRGC said Iranian armed forces remain determined to respond to desperate actions by the American regime and warned the enemy against any miscalculation.
