Hyderabad: The main Opposition BRS has accused the Congress government of plotting an attack on party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s Erravelli residence, with support from the police.
Amid rising tensions after a large number of Congress activists led by its legislators reached Erravelli on Tuesday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao, senior leaders T Harish Rao and others rushed to the spot to prevent any untoward incidents.
The BRS MLAs demanded cases against Congress legislators and police officials allegedly involved in the plan.
Speaking at the Assembly media point here, former Minister and Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was trying to create law and order problems by instigating the Congress MLAs to reach Chandrashekhar Rao’s residence. He stated that the Chief Minister was providing police escort to those allegedly planning an attack and sending goons and rowdies against the Opposition leader. He urged police to take action against those going to the residence and against officials allegedly facilitating them, warning that those who act at the behest of the Congress will not be spared after the BRS returns to power.
He alleged that BRS legislators were prevented from entering the Assembly to stop them from raising issues such as the alleged misuse of public land under the Bhu Bharati Act. He also accused police of assaulting BRS MLAs and arresting party workers heading to Erravelli to protect Chandrashekhar Rao.
Former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy said Revanth Reddy had repeatedly spoken about the former Chief Minister’s death and accused the Congress of conspiring to attack him.
He demanded that DGP CV Anand register a case and arrest Shadnagar MLA Veerlapalli Shankar over his alleged remarks wishing for Chandrashekhar Rao’s death. He also sought action against Vemula Veeresham, alleging that the MLA had threatened to attack the Erravelli residence.
He said some Congress MLAs had camped around the Erravelli residence with a plan to attack the BRS chief. Challenging Revanth Reddy, he said the Chief Minister should politically confront Chandrashekhar Rao instead of allegedly using police and goons.
BRS whip and Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekananda Goud alleged that the Congress had planned an attack on BRS MLAs and was using diversion politics to avoid discussion on public issues. He demanded an apology from Revanth Reddy over the alleged humiliation of women BRS legislators.
MLA Kova Lakshmi also demanded cases against legislators who allegedly wished for Chandrashekhar Rao’s death. She accused police of attacking BRS MLAs and said the Chief Minister should step down if he could not discharge his responsibilities.
