Extortion case filed against two transgender persons in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: An extortion case has been registered at Jeedimetla police station against two transgender persons for allegedly demanding money from a salon owner during the shop’s opening ceremony at Balaji Layout in Gajularamaram.

According to the police, the two allegedly visited the salon during its inauguration and demanded money from the owner. When he refused to pay, they allegedly threatened to return with members of their community, create a nuisance and cause inconvenience. They also allegedly issued threats of dire consequences.


Following the incident, Jeedimetla police held a meeting with members of the transgender community at the police station. The members were counselled and strictly warned against indulging in extortion, creating a nuisance or engaging in any other unlawful activities during group entry ceremonies, shop openings, housewarming functions, festivals and other public or private events.
