Hyderabad: Tahreek Muslim Shabban (TMS) announced a two-month campaign demanding greater transparency in the functioning of Telangana State Wakf Board and enhanced Muslim representation in the State Government.
The decision was taken at a round table conference held on Sunday, where representatives of religious, community and social organisations, intellectuals, lawyers and activists discussed issues related to Waqf properties and political representation of Muslims in Telangana.
TMS president Mohammed Mushtaq Mallik said the organisation would seek details from the Waqf Board regarding the total extent, estimated value and litigation status of Waqf properties in the State and sought that complete information about Waqf assets be made available in the public domain.
He alleged that despite the provisions of the Wakf Act, 1995, a large number of Waqf properties had suffered losses over the years and questioned whether the income generated from these assets was reaching intended beneficiaries such as orphans, widows, poor students and those requiring medical assistance. A panel of lawyers under the supervision of senior High Court advocate Mir Masood Ali Khan would examine pending Waqf-related cases and suggest measures for protecting the properties.
The conference also resolved to demand greater Muslim representation in the State’s political structure, including two Muslim ministers in the Cabinet and three Muslim members in the Legislative Council.
Mallik said the Joint Action Committee of TMS would conduct a sustained campaign on these issues for two months and seek accountability from the authorities.
