Iran senior diplomat, UN's Guterres confer Afghan issues

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the ambassador and special representative of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Afghanistan affairs, wrote on the social network “X” on Tuesday, in his meeting with UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres in the framework of the Doha Summit, while examining the security, social and political issues in Afghanistan, he had discussed issues related to Afghan migrants living in Iran.

The two-day Doha meeting on Afghanistan issues with representatives of 25 countries of the world and managed by the Secretary General of the United Nations ended without any specific result.

This meeting pursued several goals, one of which was the appointment of a special representative by the United Nations for Afghanistan. This goal did not reach a consensus and a representative was not appointed for this country, while the Afghan Taliban government opposed the appointment of a representative by the United Nations.

According to Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Afghan Taliban government, despite the presence of the United Nations representative in this country, there is no need to appoint another representative for Afghanistan.

At the same time, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, considered the Doha meeting useful and said that key and central issues will be discussed with the Afghan Taliban government and the parties involved in the issue of this country in the future.
