Hyderabad: A 68-year-old man died after he was accidentally knocked down by a car while a vehicle puja was being performed at the Sri Peddamma Thalli Temple in Jubilee Hills on Friday.

According to Jubilee Hills police, Tummalapalli Ramachandra Rao, a resident of Cherukuwada in West Godavari district, had come to his daughter’s house in Miyapur along with his wife for medical examinations.

On Thursday afternoon, his grandson Lakshmishetty Ramadugu Sai Kumar, who had recently purchased a new car, visited the temple along with family members to perform a vehicle puja, and Ramachandra Rao also accompanied them.

During the ritual, the priest reportedly asked Sai Kumar to move the car slightly forward. As he attempted to do so, the vehicle suddenly moved ahead and hit Ramachandra Rao, who was standing in front of it.

Ramachandra Rao sustained serious injuries in the incident and was rushed to a hospital by family members. While undergoing treatment, he died on Friday. The Jubilee Hills police have registered a case and are investigating.
