Hyderabad: The expulsion of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig from the party over a controversial video has triggered widespread curiosity, with questions being raised about the nature and contents of the video.

In a late-night development on Saturday, the AIMIM announced that Baig, a long-time party leader, had been expelled from the party with immediate effect. The party also directed him to submit his resignation as a Member of the Legislative Council to the Chairperson of the Telangana Legislative Council.

The development comes against the backdrop of a complaint reportedly lodged by Baig with the cybercrime police, in which he alleged that some persons were blackmailing him and demanding a large sum of money while threatening to make public a purported deepfake video involving him.

The police have not disclosed the contents of the video or the full details of the complaint, adding to the speculation surrounding the matter. The alleged video became a subject of intense discussion on social media after the AIMIM’s late-night announcement, with several users attempting to find or circulate information about its contents.

Unverified claims and speculation also surfaced on social media, including suggestions that the video purportedly showed Baig in an intimate situation.

The controversy has also provided political opponents of the AIMIM an opportunity to target the party leadership. Leaders and workers of rival political parties took to social media to question the reasons behind Baig’s expulsion.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and Hyderabad Youth Courage president Salman Khan alleged that an AIMIM MLA and a former corporator were also connected to the controversy. He demanded that AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi publicly explain the reasons for Baig’s expulsion.

BJYM leader Nitin Nandkar also released a video questioning the AIMIM’s decision and demanded that the party disclose the reasons for taking action against the MLC.

With neither the police nor the AIMIM disclosing details of the controversial video, speculation surrounding the matter continued to grow on social media.
