Telangana has recorded a 15 percent rainfall deficit since June 1, with cumulative rainfall at 469.4 mm against the normal 551.6 mm. Sixteen districts are in the deficient category, while Greater Hyderabad has recorded a 20 percent deficit.

Hyderabad: Telangana is experiencing a pronounced dry spell during the peak of the Southwest Monsoon, with the state’s cumulative rainfall from June 1 to August 28, 2026, dropping to 469.4 mm against the normal rainfall of 551.6 mm, which is a deficit of 15 percent.
According to the latest weather data report from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), out of the 33 districts in the state, only Kamareddy has managed to register 20 percent ‘Excess’ rainfall, while 16 districts have remained in the ‘Normal’ category and another 16 districts have slipped into the ‘Deficient’ category, ranging from 20 percent to 59 percent.
Among the 16 districts that have received deficit rainfall, Hanumakonda has the lowest rainfall, with a 45 percent deficit, followed by Warangal (43 percent) and Jangaon (40 percent), the data said.
In Greater Hyderabad and surrounding urban areas, cumulative rainfall has reached 353.9 mm against a normal of 443.7 mm, which is a 20 percent deficit.
The crucial month of August, which brings maximum rainfall during the season, has closed on a dry note, recording a 33 percent deficit for the month alone compared to its normal average.
Daytime temperatures remain relatively high across several regions due to subdued cloud cover and sparse rainfall, with Nalgonda recording the state’s highest maximum temperature at 37 degrees Celsius on Friday.
