Gachibowli police rescued two minor children within four hours of receiving a kidnapping complaint and nabbed a 45-year-old man near Ghatkesar railway station. The children were allegedly taken from a labour camp near Kondapur while they were playing.

Hyderabad: The Gachibowli police rescued two minor children within four hours of receiving a kidnapping complaint and nabbed a 45-year-old man near Ghatkesar railway station on Tuesday.
The children, identified as Pramila Murmu (4) and three-and-a-half-year-old Sangeeta Hemaram, were allegedly taken from a labour camp near Kondapur on Monday late evening while they were playing.
According to police, Pramila’s father, David Murmu, a labourer, approached Gachibowli police at around 2 am on Tuesday and reported that the children had gone missing. He suspected a fellow resident of the labour camp, identified as Chaku Soren, a native of West Bengal.
The Gachibowli police registered a case and immediately launched a search operation. “Special teams were formed, while details of the suspect and the children were circulated to police stations, railway authorities and transit points on routes towards West Bengal,” said Ch Srinivas, DCP, Serilingampally.
One team monitored railway stations, including Ghatkesar, Jangaon and Kazipet, while technical surveillance was used to track the suspect’s movements.
The investigation eventually led police to Ghatkesar railway station, where Soren was traced and nabbed with both children. The children were brought back safely and subsequently handed over to their parents following due procedure.
Police said Soren disclosed during questioning that he had previously faced two criminal cases in West Bengal, including an attempt to murder case and a rape case, and had reportedly spent five years in Islampur Jail. His antecedents are being verified.
Police are also examining his alleged disclosure that he had been involved in kidnapping people and selling them for monetary gain, with some victims allegedly being used for begging.
Following the incident, police advised labour camps, contractors, builders and security agencies to maintain proper records of residents and visitors, verify workers’ identities, install functional CCTV cameras and remain particularly vigilant about children’s safety.
