Gachibowli incident: CMC suspends Town Planning Building Officer

Gachibowli incident: CMC suspends Town Planning Building Officer 

Hyderabad: A day after the illegally constructed seven-storeyed apartment collapsed at Anjaiah Nagar in Gachibowli killing two migrant workers, Commissioner, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, G Srijana suspended U. Santosh Kumar, Town Planning Building Officer (TPBO), (Circle-50) Madhapur.

In an official release on Sunday, she said the suspension will be come into force with immediate effect.


The suspension made in connection with the collapse of an unauthorised building at Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, on August 22.

The collapsed structure, comprising Ground + 6 upper floors and a penthouse, was located at H.No. 1-60/113/135/1, Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli Village, Serilingampally Mandal, Ranga Reddy District. The incident resulted in the death of two persons and damage to the adjoining building.

As per the Town Planning report, the building was constructed by Farheen Siddiq and Md. Sajid without obtaining the required building permission and without maintaining the prescribed setbacks. The report also stated that notices were issued by the Town Planning Section on 17 June 2026 in connection with the unauthorised construction.

As per the suspension order, the concerned TPBO failed to take necessary action to stop the unauthorised construction, which resulted in loss of life and endangered public safety. Disciplinary proceedings were contemplated against the officer.

Following the incident, the Town Planning Wing also submitted a report to Raidurgam Police Station, requesting registration of a criminal case against  Farheen Siddiq, Md. Sajid and others under the applicable provisions of law.

The Commissioner, CMC, directed the Town Planning Wing to immediately undertake a comprehensive inspection of unauthorised constructions across the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation limits.

Necessary enforcement action, including demolition of unauthorised structures wherever warranted, will be taken in accordance with the applicable rules.

The Commissioner further directed officials to ensure strict monitoring and enforcement of building regulations, with public safety accorded the highest priority. CMC will continue to take firm action against unauthorised constructions and lapses in enforcement.
