Iran, Qatar relations closer than ever: Emir of Qatar

Iran, Qatar relations closer than ever: Emir of Qatar

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met and held talks with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani Doha, the capital of the Arab country, on Tuesday morning.

During the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian conveyed the greetings of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi to Al Thani and stressed that the full implementation of the agreements reached in the meeting of the heads of the two countries will be the basis for further strengthening the friendly and brotherly relations between Tehran and Doha.

Hailing Qatar’s mediating role in some cases of specific issues related to Iran, the top Iranian diplomat described the cooperation of the two countries regarding regional and international issues as constructive and beneficial for regional and international peace, stability, and security.

Referring to the ongoing Israeli war against the Gaza Strip, Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need for continuing and accelerating the joint efforts of Iran and Qatar to reach a political solution for ending the Zionists’ genocide in Palestine, lifting the siege of Gaza, and sending humanitarian aid to the enclave immediately.

The Iranian foreign minister further stressed that the US approach regarding the Gaza crisis is contrary to the country’s claim that it does not want to expand the scope of the war in the region.

The Qatari emir, for his part, emphasized that the relations between Tehran and Doha have never been as close to each other as they are now.

He also appreciated the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting Palestine and pursuing a political solution to end the war against Gaza.

Qatar is the third and final leg of the top Iranian diplomat’s regional tour that began on Friday and earlier took him to Syria and Lebanon.

Regional developments, including the Gaza war, as well as bilateral relations were on the agenda of Amir-Abdollahian’s negotiations in Syria and Lebanon where he met government officials and Resistance leaders.

On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Minister met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani for talks on the Gaza war.
