Shankarpally police arrested two members of a Pardhi gang from Maharashtra accused of a spate of thefts in locked houses across Shankarpally and nearby areas. The suspects confessed to 11 cases, including a recent burglary in Elvarthi village.

Hyderabad: The Shankarpally police on Sunday arrested two members of a Pardhi gang allegedly involved in a series of thefts targeting locked houses and shutters in and around the area.
According to police, the gang members used to identify locked houses during the daytime. After confirming that no one was present, they broke open locks using iron rods and decamped with valuables. They wore masks and gloves while committing offences and kept watch through other gang members.
The investigation revealed that the accused were part of a gang from Maharashtra and had been operating in Shankarpally, BDL Bhanur, Gajwel and surrounding areas for the past six months.
The police said the suspects were intercepted around 10 am on Sunday while moving suspiciously near temporary huts on Rice Mill Road. During questioning, they confessed to breaking into a house at Elvarthi village around 2 am on August 11 and stealing gold ornaments, silver articles and cash. The police said the suspects confessed to their involvement in 11 theft cases.
The gang members reportedly travelled from Solapur and Jalna districts of Maharashtra with women and children and stayed in temporary tents near construction sites in Shankarpally, Lingampally and Tolichowki. Further investigation is underway to trace other members of the gang.
