Hyderabad: Diya Anand and Aabha Jadhav of Telangana shocked top-seeded P. Aanya of Telangana and Kyra Raina of Maharashtra 21-14, 116-21, 21-15 in the girls’ doubles final of the Sub-junior national (Under-13) badminton championship in Bhagalpur.

In the semifinal, Diya, daughter of former international B Chetan Anand, and Aabha scored a 21-10, 21-14 win against fourth-seeded Lyosha and Manaswini of Telangana, and earlier a 21-13, 21-18 win against Aditri Kennan and Nitisha of Tamil Nadu in the quarterfinal.

Villa Marie wins OU inter-college handball

Villa Marie Degree College won the Osmania University inter-college handball tournament for women.

In the final, Villa Marie defeated St. Ann’s College 18-7.

St. Ann’s College and Government College of Physical Education finished second and third, respectively.

Earlier in the semifinals, Villa Marie scored a 14-10 win against St. Francis, while St. Ann’s College recorded a 10-8 win against Government College of Physical Education.

Telangana team for Santosh Trophy

Telangana team to take part in the Santosh Trophy national football championship to be held in Narainpur (Chhattisgarh) from December 22 was named on Wednesday.

Goalkeepers: Ishan Sarkar, Faizan Ahmed Ansari.

Defenders: Sunil, Yousha, Ch. Aravind Reddy, Kunal Chettri, Karan Kumar Singh, P. Vinod, P. Saiyashwanth.

Midfielders: T. Sai Karthik, Shaik Saleem, Mohammed Amaan, Ashish Marcos, Syed Yousuf.

Suhaas, Ruthvik win gold in badminton

Suhaas Kandepi and YSR Ruthvik won the gold in the bub-junior national badminton championship in Bhagalpur (Bihar).

On their way to the gold, the Suhaaas and Ruthvik shocked third-seeded Jeswant Mahankali and Sivanah Gupta 21-13, 16-21, 21-15 in the pre-quarterfinal, then got the better of seventh seeded pair of Kooky brothers in the quarterfinal before losing to top-seeded Yang and NH Yaiphaba 18-21, 21-12, 21-13.

Suhaas also won a bronze in singles.

Both are trainees of former SAF Games gold medallist and one of India’s top players of yesteryears, JBS Vidyadhar, now Manager in Indian Oil Corporation, at his JBS Academy in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad women win

Hyderabad women scored a three-wicket win against Chandigarh in the BCCI Women’s (under-19) one-day cricket championship at Lucknow on Tuesday.

The scores: At Lucknow: Chandigarh 97/6 in 20 overs (Deepti Walia 46) lost to Hyderabad 98/7 in 16.4 overs.

Hyderabad loses to Saurashtra

Hyderabad suffered an innings and 68-run defeat against Saurashtra in the Cooch Behar Trophy (under-19) cricket championship match on Tuesday.

Hyderabad put up another dismal batting show, being bowled out for 100 in the second essay with only VVS Sarvaji (34) batting with authority in the face of fine bowling by Devarsh (five for 43) and S. Aryan (three for 29).

Earlier, Saurashtra scored 285 in reply to Hyderabad’s first innings score of 116, thanks to Jay Ravaliya’s century (112 n.o.), even as Wafi Kachchhi (seven for 85) was the pick of the bowlers.

The scores: At Mulapadu, Hyderabad, 116 in 37.5 overs & 100 in 33 overs (VVS Sarvajit 34, Devarsh 5/43, S. Aryan 3/29) lost to Saurashtra 284 in 76.1 overs (Jay Ravaliya 112 no, Mohit Ulva 51, Wafi Kachchhi 7/85).
