Floods wreak havoc in western, central India

Floods from heavy rains inundated parts of India’s central and western states on Monday (September 18).

Thousands of people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in the Bharuch district of India’s western Gujarat state after the Narmada River broke its banks, flooding residential estates in the vicinity, local media reported.

The water level of the Narmada River has maintained at around 40 feet (12.2 meters), according to Bharuch’s district collector Tushar Sumera, who added that the situation is under control.

In the holy city of Ujjain in central Madhya Pradesh state, temples were seen partially submerged in floodwater from the swollen Shipra River.
