Two individuals responsible for the killing of three police officers in Shadegan, southern Iran, were neutralized and arrested less than 24 hours after the incident, according to the police chief of Khuzestan province.
Brigadier General Seyyed Mahmoud Mirfeizi said the incident occurred on Thursday, when police officers, acting under a judicial warrant, were dispatched to arrest two individuals for smuggling weapons and ammunition in Shadegan County.
According to the police chief, the suspects opened fire on the officers upon spotting them, prompting an exchange of gunfire.
Mirfeizi said three police officers were killed in the confrontation.
He added that, following an extensive investigation, police identified the suspects’ hideout and launched a coordinated operation.
During the raid, one of the arms smugglers was killed in an exchange of fire, while the second suspect was wounded and arrested.
Expressing condolences over the martyrdom of the three officers, Mirfeizi said the Law Enforcement Command would continue to deal decisively with threats to public security and violations of the law, stressing that officers remain committed to protecting public safety even at the cost of their lives.
