Khammam: Roads and Buildings Khammam division executive engineer MA Baseer claimed that the department had cut only branches of trees on Bonakal-Khammam road for Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s July 10 meeting at Mathkepally in the district.
In a rejoinder issued in response to a news item published in Telangana Today on June 29 with the caption ‘Scores of trees cut down for CM Revanth’s Khammam meeting,’ he said a heavy crowd was expected for the meeting and a large number of vehicles had to pass on the road to reach the meeting spot.
The trees were covering the carriageway on both sides of the road at very low height and could obstruct the free flow of traffic. Hence the tree branches were cut facilitating free flow of traffic on the road, the official further said.
But, later it came to light that one tree was removed by the Electricity department as electrical lines were passing over the tree, he added.
